Who are you? Who are you?

The coyote pup was growing up, clearly being far wiser and more talented than he was last week.  The black boy had left the herd a short ways behind him, humming as he pranced along, every now and then a few words would chime out of his mouth.  In his head there was an entire song going on, he just wasn’t sure what all the words were.

Above him was another animal that felt like singing though, not overly well at the moment.  The magpie was coming up with various sounds, some that were lower pitch, some high and some starting soft only to grow loud and explosive.  
The black coyote pup with his white markings stopped his prancy stride to glower up at the magpie, “you’re messing up my song.”

The bird looked down, “your messing up my song.”

Nico glared at the bird, “you teasing me?”

The black and white magpie ruffled its feathers, “teasing me?”

Nico groaned, letting out a sigh, “C’mon Echo, just try to do better.” The boy looked back ahead of him again and after a moment picked back up his merry tune, glaring upwards when his friend was back to the really rattley sounds that didn't match up to Nico's imagined tune at all.

“Do better,” the bird repeated.  Was it really mimicking him, or debating?
