Having built a few huts in the Plains, he’d cleared out several sites in the Moorland, set in high points, to build more here.
He scraped at the dirt, working to flatten the site, dirt flinging to either side when he scraped down a high spot here, filled a low spot there.
Finally, he sat back and studied the progress he’d made, humming to himself as he measured the site a few more times before nodding and moving to the center.
He began to dig, following the pattern he’d done with the Plains huts.

Ardyn at first glance is as black as can be imagined with a raven sheen.
Closer inspection proves that he shimmers in fire tones in every hair on his hide right down to his lashes.
More obviously, he glows like a bed of coals and flames with every movement and brush of fur. His tail is usually wagging, so blazes like a torch.
His adult teeth are in and his saber canines have grown to their full length (see profile). His mane and tail hair have grown to full length, as well as being lightweight and easily buffeted by breezes.
A look at his front paws will give the impression of hands, with his dew claw dropped low and lengthened into a functioning thumb, and his toes elongated into fingers. He has retractable, solid black cat-like claws on every paw.
Ardyn has developed a glowing mast of intricate markings in fire and ice colors over his face, symmetrical over the last seasons of Year 17 (see profile for details). During hunts or raids/sieges, he will smudge them out with black soot to cover the glow, otherwise, they are bright enough to note at first direct glance at his face. Not all his artwork currently portrays the mask markings.
He is also often bedecked in beads, small bells, feathers in blues, ribbons and braids thanks to the Ooze Event of Halloween 2021, and the Coathanger item that he got. The accessories generally are seen most in his mane and tail hair. He removes the brighter items and bells for hunts or battle.

She was out on a bit of a patrol today, walking the perimeter of the Moor for anything new, perhaps something interesting, but nothing she could quite find. There were tracks beyond the borders, but nothing that was of immediate concern. The tracks in the mud were old, and they didn't seem to belong to anything threatening, and there was no fresh scent so she chalked it up to passing prey or something before turning away and heading inland. She was glad to have a bit of a break from the storms that were ravaging the lands this season, but she figured that if they were having this much of a wet season, surely Summer would be booming with all sorts of flora, right?
She hadn't missed the huts that had been built and worked on, and they weren't something that she was familiar with. But as she made her way among them, she spotted Ardyn and immediately gave a hearty wag of her tail as she eagerly approached the digging alpha. "Ardyn! Digging another one of those hut things?" She quipped, eyes bright as she regarded him. "Would you like some help?"

Pawsteps approached, and he looked up, already smiling since he recognized the tread. “Yes, I am. And yes please.”
He nodded at the scratched-out lines in the ground. “These will need dug down to about level with just under our hocks, or if you like, you can measure with this stick I’ve notched. You want the twelfth highest notch with the red ochre daubed in it. That’s about a foot deep.”
“This will be the fire pit, and the channels we’re digging into the next room are to carry heat from the main fire to the sleeping place. We’ll put large flat stones over the channels, and then pack dirt and sand over the top of that. It makes it so whoever lives here will have a warm spot to sleep during the cold of winter and autumn.”

Her tail wagged when he accepted her offer to help. Long tail hairs swayed gracefully back and forth with the movement as she stepped forward to closer inspect what he was doing, listening to his explanation as well as his instruction. "It's quite the project you've got here. I'd be happy to help, of course. After all, the pack deserves it. I'm sure they'd appreciate more places to lay their heads, especially for those who aren't as social as you or I. Plus, who knows? Maybe if new faces show up or if Valhalla ends up with puppies someday, I'm sure they'd love to hang out in some of these!" It had been a while since the pack had any pups around, no? She couldn't recall really seeing any since she joined. Her and Ardyn had likely been the last pups Valhalla had seen in a while.
