Kill vs. maim

Little did Lilah know she would indeed have help. One could imagine the earth-toned wolf was rushing in to save Lilah from the large bear. It would be fine if one wanted to imagine that but really Kotori was running forward to kill a bear. A means of staying strong in his mind was to fight and kill other animals that could kill other predators.
The horned wolf leaped over small pools of water, bounded from tree root to a bit of grass, and touched a small stream of water before back on dry land with the confidence of an area he knew well enough. He was coming up from behind the bear, a grin on his face as the bear was busy focusing on another wolf altogether. Kotori would get to spill the first blood.
Kotori showed no hesitation as he reached the bear and bit into its back leg. Kotori jerked back, working to do what damage he could before the bear turned its large body around to attempt to get to its attacker. Kotori let go, jogging a few strides away to distance himself from the large meaty paw that was swept at him. The bear roared facing him and Kotori obliged it with a show of fangs.
Bears were dumb as far as Kotori was concerned. It was now more interested in Kotori than the wolf nor was it brilliant enough to think of running away.

Kotori had fought endless battles with different partners in fighting bears and other predators which taught him more than just how to kill. Kotori knew how to be a team player and it didn’t matter how he felt about the other wolf. He didn’t know this female and had no personal attachment to her but so long as this battle was in play it was his job to help his partner remain safe. He wasn’t some good-natured saint that wandered about saving any life.
Kotori saw the woman get on the bear's back and he took one step towards the bear's face, watching with a smug smile, apparently aware the bear was to busy to deal with him and yet for some reason not attacking yet. Then it happened, the bear rearing up. Kotori charged in the second the bear stood taller, tucking his chin in so that he stabbed the bear's belly with his horns and smoothly kept his body moving to aim for a bite at the bear's neck.
Unfortunately, he only had time for the slashing horns before the bear tried to practically topple on him with the desire to smash Kotori. The bear was in a rage at this point with the various points of damage and pain it felt. Its foolish head swung between the two wolves roaring as if to try and scare them away. It seemed to have finally realized the flaw in dealing with two wolves at once.
The bear had paused its attack plan apparently, more concerned with defense.
