Sota perched at the top of the falls, delighted at the way the surrounding forest was buzzing with life. He felt even smaller than usual here, precariously dangling his paws over an outcropping of rock, watching as crystal blue waters cascaded over jagged rocks below. Birdsong echoed through the forest, the delightful sound filling his ears - though there was another sound that caught his attention, a rustling of tree branches that could only signify one thing. Someone was climbing nearby.

His twisted his head around to get a better look, barely able to see a pair of beady hazel eyes peering at him from a nearby tree. At first he couldn't quite tell what sort of creature it was, but once he pulled himself upright and padded over to the tree he was able to get a better look at him. He was a sort of lemur, a creature he'd encountered before but only briefly, and he seemed to be quite young too.

Though at first he seemed wary as Sota approached, nearly quivering where he sat on his branch, he must've recognized that the small wolf meant him no harm. Before long he was sneaking down to a lower branch, long striped tail helping aid in his balance as he climbed even more expertly than Sota ever had. Impressed, he tilted his head quizzically as he watched the young lemur. "Don't worry, I mean you no harm," he okapi-marked man insisted, though the lemur was still wary as he climbed lower and sniffed at the air, as if trying to decide whether or not he trusted Sota.

There was something about the falls, some sort of warm feeling that settled in her chest, that drew Memento Mori back here for a second time. The last time that she had visited the location it was to say goodbye and start again new. She had howled her goodbye to her mother, her past… and then she had met Jynn. It had been strange meeting a woman as enamored with the location as Meme had been… and though she didn’t call this place her home she couldn’t deny that it had its charms. Maybe that was why she had come back here for a visit. She didn’t expect to see Jynn again today but that was alright. Maybe she’d take a page out of the other woman’s book and do some fishing in the pool at the bottom of the falls. It’d be a trip down the path since she was near the top, but that was alright. A little bit of exercise wouldn’t hurt her.

Meme was nearing where the water cascaded over the rocks towards the pool below when she caught the scent of another. She approached from the treeline, orange and yellow capped ears perking forward. She could make out a purple-gray and off-white strange, a wee, little man who almost looked like a pup instead of an adult. The woman blinked her pale silvery-blue gaze and took notice of the lemur that was approaching the other too, remaining quiet, not drawing attention to herself just yet. She lowered herself down a little, curiosity in her gaze, as she focused on them both. Was the lemur a companion of his? Like Rein and Jacques were to her?

…was she watching a budding friendship, perhaps?

The sights he'd been enjoying were forgotten, albeit temporarily, in light of a potential new friend. Sota trained his eyes on the lemur's paw as he extended it, unfurling his fingers as he reached out to him. Sota crated his neck to sniff at the creature's hand, finding a small sense of camaraderie then if nothing else. A smile turned up the corners of his lips, his already bright mood growing a touch brighter. Something about the lemur seemed eager for companionship despite his wariness and Sota was happy to provide that for him, as long as he was receptive to it.

A soft breeze that whisked through the forest brought him the scent of another who seemed to be nearby. Allowing the little lemur a moment to compose himself, watching as he pulled back and steadied himself on the tree branch he'd perched upon, Sota found his tail wagging. The stranger was admittedly unlike anyone he'd ever seen before - he was used to the large wolves that inhabited these lands now but he'd never seen one with a mane quite like hers.

She looked friendly from a distance, which was enough for the ever-optimistic Sota. He wore a grin as he called out to her. "Lovely afternoon, isn't it? I don't mind the company, you know," he suggested lightly, his tone friendly and inviting. Hopefully he wasn't being too presumptuous! His attention drifted back to his new lemur friend, who was watching him with a tilted head and wide, curious eyes.

The wind changed and betrayed her position of course. Memento Mori mentally cursed as it changed, not that she was up to anything mischievous, but she hoped she wouldn’t startle the other wolf and his companion away. Or what if they thought she was some sort of creep? That’d go over real well. Meme braced herself as her scent was carried to the male. At least he seemed friendly, she breathed with relief as he called to her. Talking about the afternoon, stating that he didn’t mind company… good, good. That would make approaching him easier. She rose, emerging from the flora as a small smile appeared on her lips.

“I couldn’t be sure… so I wanted to be respectful of you and your companion there.” She knew Rein and Jacque’s scents would be on her coat too - two other predators. Still, the lemur didn’t seem to be fearful. Instead, he seemed to be quite the curious one! Memento found relief in that. Reminded her of Rein a little when she first met him, much to Jacques’ dismay. The woman came close, though she still minded a healthy length between them, and then lowered her haunches to the ground.

“Although watching on like that probably wasn’t very respectful either, if I’m being honest…” She shifted a little on her paws and flashed a sheepish smile at him. “I wasn’t expecting to meet another wolf at these falls. I’d met another one fairly recently.” Memento Mori began. “Do you like it here? I’ve always found the falls to be a soothing place.” Meme knew they were a special place for her, even now. Did the tiny wolf feel the same serenity when he was here?

It was a conversation starter at the very least, something to move away from her awkward intro.

He looked nearly relieved as she emerged from the foliage and approached him. She was even larger than he initially expected, but he wasn't the least bit put off by it, not when everyone he met was so much larger than he was. It was a rarity he encountered wolves who were even a little close to his size. There was no hesitation in his smile as she drew closer though, his tail giving a slow but steady wag behind him, his grin only growing as she spoke. "It's appreciated, but no need. I appreciate the company." Probably more than he could even properly convey. Especially as he grew older Sota found more and more of his happiness came from his relationships with others, rather than anything he could experience on his own.

He shook his head a little, hoping to dissuade her worries. "I find myself watching more than interacting sometimes too, I understand that." It was only natural, especially when he found himself high up in the trees looking down on the world below, that he'd end up doing the same sometimes. "I didn't expect to find anyone here either. I've never visited before but it really is beautiful. Definitely somewhere I'd like to come again." It wasn't too far of a journey from the Hallows' lands, and he did find it quite peaceful. A good place for some quiet reflection, when the sometimes-bustling castle proved to be too busy for his liking.

"My apologies - my name's Sota," he straightened slightly, slowly so as to not frighten his little lemur friend who was still clinging to a low-hanging branch and watching him with wide eyes, and gave a sweeping down. His nose nearly grazed the ground before he raised his head again, facing Memento Mori properly now.

Her worries were put to rest as the man told her he appreciated the respect she’d been trying to give them but assured her there was no need, that he appreciated the company. That was a relief for Memento Mori, who breathed out the breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding. As she got older she had been trying to be a little more mindful about how she interacted with others… though she did prefer the company of other wolves when she could get it. As a loner, she had to put herself and her companions first, but that didn’t mean she didn’t like being able to talk and interact with her own kind. Especially now that she was back in Boreas it seemed that desire was growing more and more after meeting with Ezra.

When he spoke again it was to reassure her once more. He understood what it was like to watch more than interact at times - apparently, he did it too. She gave a small nod, her gaze softening. “You can learn a lot just by watching.” The femme added. She had certainly learned a great deal as a loner by observing other creatures and wolves alike. It had become beneficial for her survival. But more than that it was also fascinating to see how others could be when they were doing things naturally. Meme smiled a little.

The man went on to speak about the falls and she nodded. “It is a very beautiful territory. I was born here, years ago, and raised by these falls. I’ve only ever met one other loner out here and that was, all things considered, fairly recent. I can’t help but feel a pull back here myself, despite the fact that I no longer have kin here.” The quiet, peaceful atmosphere was what she enjoyed about the place. Not to mention the falls were a wonderful spot to fish, so it had the right atmosphere as well as basic needs met. Not bad for a single territory at all.

Then he introduced himself - Sota was his name. Meme dipped her head in response and, at last, seemed to settle on the earth so that they could talk comfortably. “It’s alright - I didn’t exactly give my name either. My name is Memento Mori Lore.” She drew in a breath. “Your company is likewise appreciated. The interactions one gets a loner can feel so very fleeting… Sometimes you long for more.” She furrowed her brow. “Though I do have an invitation from my cousin to come to visit the pack he’s in, and join for a while. I’m debating about it… The Hallows don’t seem like they could be all that bad.”

The unexpected company on both accounts was clearly well-appreciated, his tail maintaining a steady wag as they began to speak. "Indeed you can," he agreed readily, wondering if she knew just how true to heart that sentiment was. The Songa were wolves of action, sure, but he'd been taught from a young age to lie in wait and observe before reacting. The treetops they tended to climb gave them an advantage in that front, but now that he was accustomed to walking on the ground more often than not he had to be more conscientious of his staring.

"Born here? Wow," he expressed, his awe genuine. What a childhood it must have been, splashing around at the base of the falls. He could imagine his younger self perching at the top, his peers no doubt finding the safest way to dive straight down the falls - if such a thing was possible. Though the water looked gentle the fall looked quite dangerous and he could easily imagine a spill turning into a fatal accident. He fought back a shiver. "I don't blame you for coming back. It really is lovely."

He joined her as she reclined to a more comfortable position, sinking down onto his belly near the much larger female. "It's nice to meet you, Memento Mori." What a name! It was certainly not anything like what he was used to wolves being called, and he decided he quite liked it. "The Hallows? I'm part of that pack myself. I might be biased, but I quite like it there. I've never felt more at home anywhere, if I'm being honest." He wasn't at all opposed to his newest acquaintance ending up part of his pack; the more the merrier, especially with someone who seemed as kind-hearted as Memento Mori.

Of course he hadn't forgotten about his other new friend, who was still watching them both intently with wide eyes. Sota returned his attention to the lemur for a moment. "What's your name, little one?" It was no surprise that the lemur didn't respond, instead cocking his head to the side and daring to creep a tiny bit closer on his branch. "I think I'll call you Kaito. What do you say?" The creature let out a pleased little hum that Sota could only interpret as agreement and Sota flashed a grin his way.

The tiny wolf could not blame her for coming back, stating the territory really was quite lovely. If only the good memories she had of the place were more abundant, Memento Mori thought sadly. She missed Celestin, her mother, her uncle… all the wolves that she had not spent nearly enough time with when she lived here. Alas, those days were gone… and mourning over them would get her nowhere. Memento Mori allowed herself to focus on Sota instead and dipped her her head as he said it was nice to meet her. The feeling was mutual. It was good to meet a wolf who had a good head on his shoulders.

“You’re really part of the Hallows? It seems that fate itself is pulling me in that direction. How ironic.” She chuckled softly. Maybe it was for the better that she went to join the pack after all. She smiled to herself, wondering what about the pack that could be so special that it had multiple wolves feeling comfortable there. As she pondered Sota’s attention turned to his companion and Memento Mori decided that maybe it was time to round up her companions and see about making their way toward the Hallows.

“Thank you for the chat, Sota, but I think it’s time I went on my way. Hopefully we’ll be seeing each other in the near future.” She rose to her paws, dipped her head to the smaller wolf, and turned on her paws to go find Rein and Jacques.
