Chimera had mentioned to the ladies of the island long ago that he would build them a kiln so that they could easily make new pottery without going too far from home. There were clay deposits in the deeper parts of the jungle, but special clay could be collected and brought in if desired. First they needed to build the kiln.

Deeper in the island, one of the structures had begun collapsing long ago. Chimera intended to repurpose the bricks from this building to create the kiln. With a cart hitched to him, the brute had collected several trips full of bricks. He chose a spot on the island that he believed would be acceptable, then unloaded the supplies. A few of the dogs were tasked with whipping up the mortar that would be used between the stones. Then he called for Morendo, wanting the boys assistance in constructing the kiln.

Morendo didn't know what his father could want from him when he heard the call for him, but he also knew better than to ignore the summons so he got up, leaving his place by the bedroom window where he was practicing a few notes with his mother's bird, to go out into the jungles to find his dad and see what was going on. When he arrived he very quickly took note of the piles of bricks and the mortar that was being prepared and he gathered that the task at hand was going to be a pretty physical one.

He was a bit begrudging as he came to join Chimera amongst the project that he had clearly been working on for a bit now. He certainly would have preferred to be back in the comfort of the compound practicing his singing than working on whatever this was going to become, but the sooner he lent a paw the sooner he could get back to what he was doing. "What are we building?" he questioned, his voice starting to show a bit of a shift in its tone as he matured and filled out to his full height, a hint at the deeper, more baritone voice that would come with time.

In time the boy showed up though it looked as though he'd done so against his will. That irritated Chimera a bit. These boys had no idea how lucky they were to have a father that actually wanted to do things with them. To have a father that was present and wanted to spend time with them. He was giving them what he had never been able to experience and was making their lives better than his had been.

Morendo asked what they were making and Chimera answered him, pushing his annoyance away. "We're building a kiln so that the pack can more conveniently make pottery. Something I promised your mother and aunts a while back." Without another word, Chimera began scooping earth away with his huge paws, digging an outline of where the kiln would be erected. It would be rather large and constructing it would take most of the day, but it would be worth it in the long run.

Morendo definitely wasn't expecting his father to say they were making a kiln for pottery when he questioned what they were building. Maybe he thought they were going to build some kind of house or pen or... something more utilitarian than something to make poetry. He gave a slightly surprised hum, but he was generally more willing to work on something that was more difficult or labor intensive when it was going to be something for his mother to use. One of the few things he had in common with his father was the fact that he'd put in a lot of work as long as it benefited someone he cared about. "Okay, sounds interesting," he said with a nod, looking around the area that his father had picked for the project.

When Chimera set to work digging out the outline of the kiln, Morendo attempted to follow his lead and match what he was doing, digging away a portion of earth that more or less matched what his father was doing just on the opposite side of the space. Without much direction it seemed like a good start and eventually the two large males made pretty quick work of it. He figured that laying the bricks in place would likely be the logical next step so after he saw the direction and pattern that his father was making he did the same, picking up the bricks one by one and putting them into place.

Morendo seemed a bit more interested after his father informed him of what they were making. Once Chi set to work digging the outline, his son followed suit, mimicking his actions and digging the base for the opposite side. Once they had the outline and the center cleared away, the next thing to do was to begin building.

A dog came forward towards each of them, holding large dishes of mortar. Making sure that Morendo was watching, Chimera lay out a line of bricks, using a thin piece of slate to scrape up mortar which he then placed between the bricks. "Try to make sure that they're as even and straight as possible." The pair worked together creating three long lengths of brick and leaving the fourth edge open. Again and again Chimera placed brick and mortar, stopping only once or twice just to wet his dry mouth. He didn't have to correct Morendo, noting the way that the boy worked. He was proud of that.

Morendo nodded as he watched his father's demonstration and listened to the reminder about making sure the bricks were as even and straight as he could make them. As much as he disliked the hard, physical work that had to go into this project, his usual attention to detail did come in handy here. It was a task that required a little more finesse than others which worked out well for someone like him that had an eye for making things more visually appealing. By the time that they had carefully placed and mortared all of the bricks into their new home in the kiln, his shoulders and paws were sore, but he was happy with how it came out in the end.

When they were done he took a few steps back to look at it while he rubbed off some of the loose mortar off of his paws on the grass, knowing that he was going to need to take a bath when he returned to the compound. "I hope they enjoy it," he commented with a slight hint of a smile on his usually stoic expression. He did wonder if maybe making poetry might be something he'd like to try out himself, but maybe that could be something he did under the guise of helping his mother.
