Everyone was in a flap about the missing wolves. Fuji had only travelled this far to come to a festival and it ended up being a non-event by they time they had made it up from the southern lands. It was her second time making the journey and she was still mesmerised by the landscape up here. She could tell she was getting close to the Armada, where her mother had lived before she met her father, but she had little interest in trade right now so she kept to the towering red trees.
They were similar to the Ancient Oaks near her home, but the air was crisper and filled with a scent she associated with her mother’s treatment room. It stung her nose and burned her eyes when she breathed in too deeply, but it felt a lot like home, the leaves sounding a lot less like whispering ghosts, and more like murmuring spectres, the creak and crack of strong trunks and thick branches a constant warning.
She padded along with her golden cat and nosed through the underbrush, some cinnamon fern she chose to harvest, as it wasn’t one found close to home, and while they didn’t necessarily harbour any elderly, joint pain could come at any time and it was always better to have it than to not, rock cap too.
She was interrupted by a purring chirp from Kenta, and bundled her ferns together, tying them with her dexterous paws before wandering over to see what her companion had found…
Her grin grew wide and she giggled. Oh those were certainly something. She sniffed to be safe and broke a corner off one of the mushroom caps and waited for the top to bruise blue. Once it did, she carefully picked her haul and looked for a leaf to wrap them up in. Mumma was gonna be so pleased!

Having been disappointed by the fact that they couldn't actually attend the festival, Rheum decided to wander a bit. It wouldn't hurt to do some investigating in the area. From what she could see, the trees looked just like the ones that were close to home! Tall and wide with rough bark and tree limbs that shot out everywhere and tangled with each other. Any time she looked up, she could barely see the light that filtered through. How did anything survive down here? Curious, the growing pup made her way through the forest, investigating all the different flora with deep sniffs and gentle paw touches.
Lost in her own mind of experiences, she barely noticed the shift of the breeze that brought her the scent of her sister, Fuji. Raising her head with widened eyes, she quickly changed her pace toward where the smallest girl was taste-testing mushrooms. "Wha' ya find, Fuj?" She chirped with a wag of her plum-colored tail as she approached. Coming closer so she could get a good look at the mushrooms, Rheum lowered her face until she was nose to nose with the musty and damp capped fungi. "Ya think it's safe to eat?" Rheum asked as she prodded one with a toe.
