She didn't know what had happened. One day she was nice and warm and full in her den with her mother, and then her mother rushed out all of a sudden and all the young girl could hear was a loud commotion outside and then...silence. She waited in the den for what felt like forever, but it had only been about two or three days. Her stomach hurt. She was hungry. Thirsty. She called for her mom, but there was no answer. Her tummy growled and rumbled, and it felt like it was trying to eat itself. She was cold. Not feeling too good. She didn't know how long she had been alone, or if her mother would come back.

But finally, she would get the urge to go look. The den was too cold now. Too quiet. Outside, the sky was bright and the world was blindingly white. She squinted against the brightness of the snow, trying to get used to how different the world was out here. Her tiny heart raced, paws tentatively touching the ground as she climbed out of the entrance to her den and plopped right in front of it. She looked around but saw no sign of...anything. No mama. No sight nor sound nor hair to be found. She wobbled as she took a step forward, falling face first into the snow. She had just started to learn how to walk before mama disappeared...and she wasn't too good at it, yet.

Shaking the snow from her face, she sat back again and decided she was going to wait here. Maybe if she called for her mom...she'd come back, right? Saga started to squeal as loud as she could, hoping that her mother would hear her and come back to feed her and warm her up.

OOC:: Clarifying this is on the edge of pack territory and right before Bells reunites with Gavroche. Abusing my ability to liquid thread here.

Bellamy knew she had to come back to the North. Bae-Syl had helped her get her head on right, though she had refused to let Lucy see her like this. At least the wound was clean, and she knew, once she found Gavroche, that the tiny winged man would fuss over the injury. But it seemed that Wren’s pack had moved… and worry gnawed at her. Where was Gav then? Was he looking for her? The woman was worried for him now, but at least she was able to walk a little better now. For the time being there was some sticky webbing over the injury holding some herbs in place to keep it from getting dirty again… hopefully, it’d be enough to avoid infection until she found him.

She went further North, but something seemed to feel off. She moved through the snow with ears flicked back against her skull. She was deep in thought as she padded along, unaware of the ominous feel over the area… She did, however, start to notice pack border scent eventually wafting toward her. But something else started to catch her attention too. The woman deviated from the borders, the scent of Wren, as the smell of a young creature caught her attention.

Her ears perked forward as she scanned the landscape. “It’s weird…” She mumbled. She could smell the cub but no sign of its parents… and because of that, something drew her to investigate. Maybe it was because of her attachment to Ears and Whiskers, two other small, nonwolf creatures… there was no telling the exact reason why… but Bellamy soon found what she was looking for.

She saw her stumbling in the snow… a lonely little cub. Bellamy furrowed her brow and checked the air again. No adult polar bears. The woman sighed, set towards the kid as she called out to her. “You shouldn’t be out of your den, little one. Where’s your mama? Your papa?” The woman slowed once she was a couple of wolf lengths away to a stop and lowered herself down to the tiny fluffball. It was painful, she winced as she got into position, the motion irritating her shoulder. “Are you by yourself…?” She asked, her voice gentle, softer now that she was interacting with a little one.

Dull golden eyes looked out across the snowy grounds, her stomach growling fiercely with the pangs of hunger. She shivered as the cold set in, the young girl huddling in on herself as she tried to keep warm. Her cries turned into wails, and still, her mother had not returned to comfort her. Tears brewed in her eyes, streaming down her face as her lip trembled. She didn't understand it. Her mother had always been there for as long as she could remember. Why did she leave so suddenly? Where did she go? Why had she gone? She quieted at some point, unaware of the approach of a strange beast that seemed to materialize from the snow.

“You shouldn’t be out of your den, little one. Where’s your mama? Your papa?” The young cub was frozen in place. She wasn't sure if out of fear, or if she was just too tired to move anymore, but she trembled as the creature asked her questions. Her voice was soft though, which put the young cub somewhat at ease. "Mama gone! Saga alone!" She wailed, lip trembling as she started to cry again. She was too young to go out searching for her mother.

Poor little scrap. Bellamy felt her heart pang in her chest as the little cub answered her. Her mother was gone, and she was alone. The scent of a mother bear was faded, not recent, and the woman could only assume something had happened. Whether it was another polar bear, wolves, or something else that had done the woman in she couldn’t be sure. What she knew was the other woman was gone and without a caretaker, this cub was going to be in trouble. Instinct took over as moved to the little one. It was cold here, and if the cub was out here alone she was likely cold too. She knew wolf pups couldn’t regulate their temperature right away, and she knew little about polar bears… her first step was going to be warming the little one.

Then she was going to need to find the cub food and get them shelter. She didn’t have milk right now, it wasn’t like she could nurse the little one. But Bellamy curled around the small child and nosed her, shooshing her gently. “Shhh little one. It’s alright.” Bellamy curled her body around Saga’s own, tail coming around the other side to try and keep the cub warm with her own body heat. “I’ll look for her, but first we got to take care of you, okay? Let's get you warm. Then I’ll have to take you with me to find something to eat. Then we’ll get you back to your den and I’ll help keep an eye out. I’ll even call for her.” Bellamy kept her voice soft. She wanted the cub to feel safe.

…and she had to consider the fact the mama bear might not come back too. Bellamy drew in a breath.

She would take care of her. No matter what.

The strange not-polar bear-creature tried to comfort her. Saga had no idea what was going on, where her mother was, or who this was. She didn't seem mean, and even if she was, Saga would be too young to know the difference when she didn't know what fear felt like. The wolf curled herself around Saga's small body, and Saga immediately curled into her as she tried to get warm. The den had gotten cold without her mother's warmth, and she was barely old enough to regulate her own temperature and her fur wasn't yet quite thick enough to keep her warm, either. But this? She was okay with this. "Saga is hungry," She whined, peering up at the wolf after she had spoken. She wasn't old enough to eat solids yet. And she didn't smell milk anywhere.

She had ceased her crying, snuggling into the wolf as she peered around. Mama wasn't anywhere. This creature seemed nice. She was warm. And she was kind. "Saga Mama gone. White circle in sky Saga saw, then sun, then white circle again, and then sun..." She sniffled. She couldn't remember what the moon was called. But she remembered her mother telling her about the sun. It wasn't quite cold since it was spring, but it was cold enough for the cub. She didn't know how many days her mom had been gone either considering she wasn't old enough to keep track of the passing days just yet. As she warmed up and leaned into the wolf, she rubbed the painted fur on her foreleg which brought her some comfort.

Bellamy tucked the cub in close. Worry for the little one grew as she said she was hungry. Her heart panged in her chest. She doubted the cub could eat true solids yet… Damnit. If Gavroche were nearby she'd ask for an herb to make her produce milk. The only option right now was to try and get Saga used to a semi-solid diet… just enough so the poor thing could survive. She would chew whatever food they found to a pulp and see if the cub could keep it down.

"I will see what I can do, Saga." The woman promised softly. “I don’t have any milk right now but if I find my mate he can give me something so I can make some.” She furrowed her brow as the cub told her when she had last seen her mother. “That’s a fairly long time…” Especially for a mother with such a young cub. The mother wasn’t going to be coming back.

“I’m going to keep you with me and we’re going to have to go near the water to find food. Once I can catch something I’ll wrap around you again to warm you up more.” Bellamy licked the cub’s forehead.

“I know it’s scary, and I’m not your real mom, but I promise I’m going to keep you safe, okay?” Bellamy turned her gaze to the water in the distance. “We won’t go until you’re ready. But you’re going to have to trust me, little one.” Bells looked back to the cub. “Can you do that for me?”
