It was unlike Yama Tenshi to request the presence of Hattori Hanzo for anything other than business. The curt and mysterious air that the Kaicho held had kept her at bay from frivolous excursions aside from a time or two previous. And even then, if it had not been his idea in the first place, she would not have prodded. Why, today of all days, did she feel the urge to spend time with Hanzo would be beyond her personal awareness. She had been content so far. After being accepted into Tojo-kai to work her way up skillwise and create a new life for herself, she felt that maybe she wanted to get to know him better. Her recent promotion gave her the sense that he possibly trusted her more than when she had first arrived so she had slightly high hopes this would work out. Sitting along the shore with the sun basking overhead, she kept to the shadier areas of Manatee Bay. The rain had recently swept over the land leaving behind soggy sand and fruitful fishing bounties. One could not say it was particularly warm that day as a shuddering breeze swept in from the ocean, but it would be good enough to justify spending time outside of the bamboo. Though she knew Hanzo patrolled frequently, she wondered just how often he allowed himself to see the light of the outside world. Tenshi wouldn't openly call the man a hermit, but his tendencies were close enough to one that she wondered if he would live in the bamboo alone if it were not for his want to be a leader. Setting out an array of precisely cut fish and beds of sticky rice, Tenshi would tilt her head back to call for him. As closed off as he wanted to present himself, she hoped he would come. Even just to share an afternoon snack and some quiet time watching the whales swim farther offshore, they didn't even need to exchange words. His company alone would be good enough, but she had a feeling that he would question her behavior nonetheless. Leaning her chin back down so she could scout the skyline for anything interesting to look at, she would wait patiently in silence. |

Hattori, as always, came when called. Tenshi did not seek his audience often and thus he saw no reason to deny her. He does not spend a lot of time at the Bay, but he appreciates the open air all the same, the way the smell of the sea fills his nostrils as he pads his away across the sand towards Tenshi. Who appears to have prepared something, it seems. Eying the fish spread and sticky rice, he arches a brow in a silent question As though to say: what is this?
He would be a fool and a liar to deny the skill required to put together the selection. The fish are cut slither thin, and the rice holds firm despite its moisture. It is food he would have eaten back in Nihon, but he knew for a fact the same could not be said of her. The mountains were cold and rugged, such delicacies were not commonly available to her people, least of all after what happened to them. He debates the deeper meaning of this offering as he stands in front of her, silver of his eyes lingering on the food a moment longer before shifting to Tenshi once more.

His arrival was expected as her call was rarely left unanswered. She watched him carefully as her insides twisted slightly. The only reason she had to be nervous was whether he approved of her offering. Unlike that of her homeland, what she offered was more to his taste. One might think that you would offer delicacies from your own heritage as a way of sharing, but not this time. No matter how much Tenshi wanted to craft a warm stew full of meat and root vegetables, today was for Hanzo to enjoy. An offering of sorts to show that she was committed to staying in Tojo-kai. "Kuroo and Usagi are bright lads. They showed me how to make the rice sticky and the fish sliced thin," her voice is apprehensive but also eager. Lifting her steel blue gaze to Hanzo as he gave her that look, Tenshi couldn't deny it. She had fallen for a once presumed enemy. Blinded by anger and emotion, she had blamed his ancestral blood for the downfall of her home. Mountains once beautifully filled with wolves like herself were now demolished to a coal and blood-filled wasteland. Her heart still hurt every time she thought of traveling north to view Boreas' own mountains for a taste of once was, but her future lay here. Already growing accustomed to the balmy weather of the southern continent, it was time for Tenshi to really begin settling down. "I wanted to learn more about Nihon's culture and also give you a bite of home," Tenshi's words are careful as she moves over to give him room to sit beside her. Carefully adding a piece of sliced salmon to a bed of rice, she holds it out to Hanzo. "It is best eaten now before getting too warm," she adds, a small hint of a hopeful smile on her lips. |

Now that made more sense. Finishing appraising the meal he carefully pulled it towards himself, not to cause the carefully folded sushi to unfurl. He bowed down and picked up one with his teeth, savouring as he chewed slowly, making the most of the gift presented to him. As was polite. And yet he wondered what this was for, aside from being a gift he wondered if she had a follow-up request, something she wished to ask of him. Delicious food was always a good start, it was a peace offering and he took it as such. Mostly.
"The effort is appreciated." He said, as he swallowed, licking his lips to chase away stray grains of rice. Just the right amount of stickiness, but not too starchy. "What brought this on? Is there something you want from me?"

Tenshi knew as well as Hanzo that one did not offer gifts without want for something in return. Watching as he reached for a piece and ate delicately, she could not deny what she felt. Having spent a considerable amount of time with the stoic man, Tenshi felt her stomach twist once more. These were feelings she had not felt in a very long time. Feelings that she had once reserved for someone who no longer roamed this earth. It nearly made her sad to think that she could replace her true soulmate for someone who belonged to the family that had destroyed him, but she couldn't think of that now. Nihon was a long way from here and her home among the mountains lay decimated. Knowing something that Hanzo's family did not was the only thing giving her the upper hand at this point. Would it even be worth it? Would she be better off making this new life and leaving her past behind her? When he requested if there was something she wanted from him, Tenshi moved her gaze to the glittering bay beside them. She would need to say her next words carefully. "I have spent some time with you now," she began but wasn't sure how to continue. Having no idea if he felt the same or not, she almost didn't want to risk it. Feeling the flutter in her chest that was undoubtedly her heart trying to clamber up her throat, she swallowed hard. "I was wondering if you would like to have my company more often. It is lonely at night and while it does not get nearly that cold this far south, sometimes the warmth of someone beside you is nice," figuring that she had worded it the best way possible without being too forward, she finally let herself look back to Hanzo. |
