He was back where he belonged. Leaning over the edge of a deteriorated area of the bay’s shoreline, the pale boy looked down at his reflection. What was he possibly to do now? Every time he thought he had a fleeting chance at love, it disappeared the next time he blinked. His heart slowly began to shatter under the hope.

Would he ever be happy? Or would he be stuck in a fisherman’s purgatory? Reaching out a paw with a fish dangling between his toes, he held it over the surface. Perhaps his fish friends would visit today for a snack. At least they never let him down…
