He was on the hunt. Grim had found a trail of reindeer that were passing through on their way to migrate to warmer lands. Looking at the tracks, he could tell there were a few young ones, less than a year old and smaller than the adults. Golden gaze looked up to see the direction in which they went, though honestly, with this many footprints, it wasn't hard to tell where they were going. He licked his lips with the anticipation of the hunt to come, and as he studied the prints one more time, he noticed there was a set of prints that looked uneven. An injury, perhaps? If that were the case, he might as well try to cull it from the herd if it was going to die anyway. If not by him, then something else would get it during the migration.

Tossing his head back, he snorted to himself as he began to follow, and after nearly an hour, he managed to catch up. A glance at the ground here and there told him that the injured one had a wound that wasn't healed, it was fresh. Perhaps a day or two, because it appeared to still be bleeding. Up ahead through the trees, he could see a small herd of reindeer, and among them, the injured one was lying down with its leg extended, the wound appeared like it was getting infected. Shame. At least it wouldn't have to suffer for much longer.

The hoof prints on the ground and occasional spots of blood had been far too opportunistic for Iðunn to simply ignore, and so she followed the trail diligently, hoping to find the source of the bleeding in a form that she could take on as a lone wolf. It didn't take long for the musk of another wolf to cross over the trail and move in the same direction, and for a moment she paused, considering. She started forward at a brisk pace again, deciding that whatever she would find she could hopefully swing in her favour.

She saw the wolf before the reindeer herd, a large earthen wolf that was eyeing the herd just as she was. Her lithe form peeked around one of the large redwoods, extended canines pushed forward just in case the wolf was not friendly and she had to defend herself. One could never be too careful in this world. From her new vantage point she spotted the injured reindeer laying down, the wound on its leg glaringly obvious. Poor thing wouldn't last much longer, but it would make a fine meal.

Iðunn made a low noise in the back of her throat to announce her presence to the earthen wolf, doing her best to not alert the reindeer further ahead. She could smell a myriad of wolf scents upon his pelt, which did not bode well for her. But she would make the best of the situation. "I can help you put it out of its misery... in return I take a small portion for myself?" It was a fair trade, she didn't need much, and that way enough would be left for him to feed himself as well as those he was clearly grouped with.

Golden gaze steadily watched the herd and the younger, injured deer. Too bad it had been unfortunate enough to have gotten into that predicament. It looked like it would have been a fine pick for breeding season, but it wouldn't even see its first heat. What a shame, what a shame! Oh well, at least it would be an easy hunt...he hoped. As he started to think about a way to drive off the others so he could snatch the young doe away. Before he could fully formulate a plan, however, he heard someone nearby and he turned to find an earthen-toned stranger approaching. "I can help you put it out of its misery... in return, I take a small portion for myself?" He regarded her quietly, and nodded. He didn't have a problem with that, after all, she was due her fair share if she put in her work. That's how he always saw it.

"That's fine by me," He murmured, sparing her a glance before returning his gaze to their prey. He observed the others that lingered around the downed doe. Most of them seemed younger, possibly yearlings if not a bit younger. But they also appeared healthy, uninjured, and like they'd produce good offspring. "Help me capture one of the healthy ones when we're done with the injured one, and you can take whatever you want from it." He offered. The pack had plenty of resources, whereas a loner didn't. That much he knew, especially considering he had lived alone prior to joining his pack.

He was quick to agree to her terms, for which she was grateful for, even if she didn't outwardly show it. She merely blinked at his request for her to help capture one of the does. It was not an uncommon practice back in her homeland, though usually more than two wolves would be recruited for such a task. Nevertheless, she would not balk at just the two of them doing it together. Clearly he had some sort of plan given his apparent intent to do it alone had she not interrupted.

"Very well," Iðunn murmured softly, creeping forward to crouch down beside him. Their size difference was much more apparent now, though he was not that much taller than her. Perhaps his size would be useful in scattering the rest of the herd while she quickly darted in with her lithe form to swiftly end the young and injured deer's suffering. "You run in and scare them off with your horns, I run in and finish it off before it can get up?" With his large horns he would be an imposing figure, with even the stags unlikely to try and take him on one-on-one. And while they were busy running or watching him, she could slip past and finish of the deer. With it's injured leg it would struggle to quickly get up, giving her enough time to get a clean kill.

Her gaze moved from the deer to glance sideways at him with a single raised brow, waiting for either his agreement with her plan or any revisions he might have. She was all ears.

She agreed to help him, and that brought some relief to the young male. He sort of had a plan to get one of these back home. Alone, he would have likely herded one or two of them towards an enclosed part of the forest where it butted up against the Col. There was a spot where there was a narrow path, and he'd easily be able to box in his choice. But then what? He would've had to wait for someone to come by to help him wrangle the beast. But with another helper, even if just the two of them, it'd be easier. He'd formulate his plan a bit better while they hunted, first they had an injured deer to get. "You run in and scare them off with your horns, I run in and finish it off before it can get up?" He glanced at the woman and nodded. He wasn't one for many words, but that sounded perfectly fine to him. "Sounds like a plan to me. Let's get started."

He turned his golden gaze back to the deer as the healthier members stood around the injured one. His gaze drifted a bit to one of the potential captives he wanted, so he'd have to keep an eye on that one while making sure he didn't lose it, or their target prey. Despite his larger size, the male crouched low to the ground to try and blend in with the dirt patches that peeked through the snow. With practiced ease, and with the help of his fur-padded paws, he crept forward until he was close enough to be able to keep his target in his sights, and to keep them from trying to retaliate. He jumped out with a bark, horns at the ready as the group scattered in surprise.

She wasted no time when he agreed with her plan, immediately turning her attention back to the injured deer. Moving forward in a crouch, Iðunn followed closely behind the earthen male, almost using him for cover as they both crept closer and closer. When he leaped forward to scatter the herd she took her chance amongst the chaos, swiftly darting forward and dodging flailing limbs with open jaws.

The poor thing had barely gotten a front hoof beneath it when her jaws clamped around its throat, and used her own body weight to push it down from above. Given its injured leg it would be unable to stand with their combined weights. Iðunn made sure it didn't suffer a slow death, using her extended fangs to quickly tear into the delicate flesh of its throat. It let out a gurgled cry, legs kicking out somewhat uselessly beneath her, but quickly stilled. Its wound must have made it weaker than she initially anticipated.

Once she was sure the deed was done her jaws opened and she quickly stepped off its now unmoving body. Her icy blue gaze lifted from the deer, searching for the earthen male so they could begin the next task as per the deal they had negotiated.

He was slightly amused by the woman using him as cover, but he didn't mind it. She was helping him, after all, so anything to get the job done was fine by him. They scattered more when they launched their attack. Snow was thrown every which way as the deer panicked, though one or two dared to feign an attempt at rescuing their friend, only to be driven off by the smell of blood and the growls of the wolves, and the threat of his own pointed horns. Golden gaze watched them flee as he turned to make sure nothing was going to come at them by surprise, but the hunt of the injured deer was over almost as soon as it had started. It didn't stand a chance against the earthen she-wolf as she kept it down and made quick work of it. As soon as he was certain that she had the job handled, he took off after the doe he had chosen for capture, leaving large paw prints in the snow in his wake.

No doubt the woman would follow as promised. After this, she was free to return to the fallen prey to take what she wanted from it. He raced after his quarry, aiming to come up on its right side as he guided it where he needed it to go. "Guide it Northwest! There's a narrow passage leading towards the mountain side, it won't be able to escape once we box it in!" He called over his shoulder as he kept pace with the beast.

By the time she finished with the deer her hunting partner had bolted off after the fleeing herd, and all she saw was a flash of brown in the trees. With a powerful leap Iðunn set off after him, following the trail of paw prints and hoof prints that left the snow a flurried mess. She weaved in and out of the large trees, her lithe form easily keeping track of where her intended targets where heading, and before too long she finally began to catch up to them.

His voice carried back to her as his earthen form came into view, and she changed her course of action to move in a half-circle, cutting off any possible escape to the other side. She let out a few snarls to scare it from trying to veer sideways, snapping her jaws together loudly. It was healthy and fast, but she was built for speed over semi-long distances. Her head twisted sideways to glance at the other wolf, wanting to keep him in her peripheral for when he gave another signal or instruction. This was his hunt, and she'd follow his cues.

She could see the narrow passage up ahead as the mountain side loomed into view through the large trees, and staying light on her toes she herded the deer towards it, feeling the thrill of the chase burn through her veins.
