He studied the hive with contemplation. The bees worked busily, and the hive was well-guarded. Getting honey from these creatures was always a test of nerves and careful movements. And smoke. He hummed to himself as he lit a smudge of fodder and carefully let the smoke bathe the hive, listening closely to the bees.
They retreated from the smoke, tucking away in the back of the hive, vibrating with mild displeasure and caution, but the section he wanted was cleared enough to get at without harming any bees.
Carefully, he clamped the smudge in his teeth, head angled to let the smoke continue washing over the hive and picked up a thin obsidian knife he’d bought from the Nomads’ knapper, a mandrill that traveled with the healers and sold his work.
Pawsteps made him pause, ears pulling back as he grunted in a hello, recognizing the pawsteps as friendly and belonging among the pack.

More obviously, he glows like a bed of coals and flames with every movement and brush of fur. His tail is usually wagging, so blazes like a torch.
His adult teeth are in and his saber canines have grown to their full length (see profile). His mane and tail hair have grown to full length, as well as being lightweight and easily buffeted by breezes.
A look at his front paws will give the impression of hands, with his dew claw dropped low and lengthened into a functioning thumb, and his toes elongated into fingers. He has retractable, solid black cat-like claws on every paw.
Ardyn has developed a glowing mast of intricate markings in fire and ice colors over his face, symmetrical over the last seasons of Year 17 (see profile for details). During hunts or raids/sieges, he will smudge them out with black soot to cover the glow, otherwise, they are bright enough to note at first direct glance at his face. Not all his artwork currently portrays the mask markings.

It was a fine, sunny day and the young woman yawned as she rolled awake from a short nap. She shook out her fur, blinking bleary eyes before her ears perked up with slight alarm. She smelled smoke, and gazing around she spotted it in the trees not far from where she was. Getting up to investigate, she quickly made her way to investigate. But of course, as she got closer, she noticed Ardyn had been the cause of the smoke.

It was Tel, he saw as he glanced over his shoulder and offered a smudge-gripping smile before his eyes shifted back to the hive and he gently grasped the bottom of one of the lines of honeycomb, making a careful slice upward through the wax and honey, cutting a square from the hive and gently lowered the piece to a stretched out hide on the ground at his feet.
He gently coaxed any stray bees onto his digits and returned them to the hive before dousing the smudge in the dirt and stepping back, wrapping the section of honeycomb and grinning at Tel.
“The honey’s good for food, or wound treatment—or for that matter, flavoring a medicinal tea so it’s better to drink. And the wax has lots of uses.”
He moved away from the hive, letting the bees go back to their busy likes as he tucked the package away and asked, “How’s your day?”

He had noticed her, and when he did, she nodded a greeting to him but still remained quiet as he worked. She didn't want to accidentally spook the bees...though she had no idea if her talking would spook them at all in the first place. And the wax has lots of uses.” "I see," She had never tried honey before, nor had she seen or heard of it used for anything until now. Of course, she wouldn't have known. She did grow up living under a rock up until she joined Valhalla, but even then there always seemed to be something new she discovered just about every day!

He listened with a grin as he led the way through the wooded foot of the hillock, heading toward the alcoves Ravine, head tipping in thought. “Mostly. I’ve been thinking of getting out for some sparring. You up for one in the Ravine?”
He paused at the opening to the ravine in question and grinned at her, brow points lifting in question. The widest part of the ravine, tucked safely just outside the mouth of the cave and its chambers and alcoves within, was floored in soft sand, with firm footing beneath the top layers.
It was a great place for sparring when not training for sticky situations like unfavorable footing, mud and snow.

She followed him towards the ravine, her long furred tail swayed behind her, the hairs lightly touching the ground as she held it just high enough for it not to drag in the dirt. “Mostly. I’ve been thinking of getting out for some sparring. You up for one in the Ravine?” Long furred ears perked up, a slight grin on her face as he eyes sparked up with interest. "Of course! It's been quite a while since we've sparred. I believe we were pups last we sparred one another." Yes, the first time she had sparred with Ardyn felt so long ago now, "I believe it was also the first time we met," She mused. And now? They were both older. He was a few months older than she was, of course. But she was curious to find out if she had improved much since then. She hoped so...otherwise she knew she'd have to train more. Train harder.

Tel was eager to take him up on his offer for a spar, and Ardyn grinned lightly as he led the way into and down the Ravine, finally taking a stance in the center of the widest portion of the ravine. From the mouth of the cave behind him came a subtle movement and Aurielle settled where she could watch what was happening.
Ardyn flashed Tel a grin as he relaxed into a balanced stance, tail flicking level with his spine and long front toes flexing into the sand.
“Let’s see how far you’ve come since that first spar, then. Come at me.”
He nodded to her, indicating she take the first moves.

She followed him into the ravine, taking up a position about six or so feet from him. Aurielle had come out to watch behind him, her gaze glancing past him to fall on Aurielle's form for a moment before returning to Ardyn. Was she nervous? Sure. She couldn't lie to herself. Ardyn was still more experienced than her, she was sure. She had been practicing and fighting a variety of opponents, but she was still getting used to using her accessories and fighting others of varying sizes, builds, and experiences.

She charged in, and Ardyn settled ready in his tracked, waiting until the last second before side-stepping abruptly to his own right, eyes squinting against her flash of light. Crafty. If he hadn’t been raised sparring his own glowing mother, who liked to pull tricks like being slathered in mud and knocking some of the dried stuff off to flash light, he’d have been more affected.
He snatched up his left forepaw as she swiped for it, pulling it away from her as his other three legs took his weight and tail flicked out for balance, before lunging to his own left, left foreleg flashing out toward her and aiming to land a shove with the palm of his left paw to the point behind her right elbow.
He pivoted on his haunches to his own left, regardless of success with the shove, and sought to bring himself into a 90-degree angle with her in a T, aiming to slam his chest into her left side along her ribs and send her flying if possible.

Her attack missed as he pulled his foreleg away and out of the line of fire. Jaws snapped on empty air and her forepaw didn't even make contact. Growling with frustration, she quickly replanted her paw and sought to use her rushing momentum to get past him. His shove would hit her haunches as opposed to near her elbow, and she grunted with the contact, but let it help in maneuvering her hips away from him as she apparently sought to move in a similar manner as him. When he pivoted in an attempt to put them at a T position, her pivot and movement had brought them face to face. When he had sought to slam his chest into her ribs, Tel sprang forward, forelegs outstretched as she sought to wrap them around his neck, cat claws looking to hook into his thick fur (and potentially tangling up in them with those long shiny locks). She grunted with the effort of going head to head with her heavier counterpart, but she was determined to try and show him that she was capable of at least holding her own.

He gave a mental nod of approval as she used his own shove to propel herself in a pivot. They crashed together, likely leaving some moderate bruising in his pectorals, and she might spot a certain gleam in his eyes as her forelegs clamped around his neck.
Ardyn sought to rear, forelegs snapping up as his weight shifted squarely over his hind paws, tail sweeping low for balance, and he sought to wrap Tel in a tight hug beneath her “armpits” as he simultaneously sought to sharply twist to his right, aiming to throw the glowing woman to her left and off her hind paws, hoping to send her crashing to the sand, long digits aiming to knot in her fur as he went, hoping for a better grip.
His jaws snapped in a silent snarl, aiming to ward off any bite she might aim for his face or ears.

She knew this was a friendly spar to test her skills, but Tel was determined to show that she had been practicing in an effort to get better. And still, Ardyn still managed to outpace her and seemed to have a counter for everything she did so far. Granted, she wasn't trying to do complicated moves and was keeping it basic, but she had a feeling that she needed to switch up her tactics. As her forelegs rose up to bear hug Ardyn, she caught the gleam in his eyes and suddenly she had a feeling things weren't about to go well. She had a mental moment of oh crap, and sure enough, she had a right to feel that.

She’d improved in her tenacity and quick-thinking skills, but even so, it was hard to avoid a hug you threw yourself into. Ardyn had her and wasn’t intending on letting go.
Still, Tel was impressively able to keep herself from going over right away, so he added a little more pressure as he felt her wobble.
He felt her muscles shift and as she lunged, he shifted tactics abruptly. Ardyn sidestepped to his own right on his hind leg, tail swirling in a banner f black flame for balance, and sought to release Tel from his hug and, hoping to use that lunge of hers against her, sought to sway out of reach of her jaws as he aimed to lock his left forepaw over her back and shove her further into her lunge, and perhaps flat on her face.
He felt a tug as her sabers dragged through his trailing mane, and simultaneously, he aimed to snatch her left foreleg in his right front paw and pull back, aiming to rob her of a pillar of support she could use should she be unable to stop herself sailing forward.
