Kotori had gone searching for the scent of anything fun to fight near the borders while Sanna got help with her wound being treated.  He wanted his pack to grow and in that sense, it would be good to make her a member of his pack but he needed to know her abilities.  Was she a competent fighter and was she able to work as a team in fighting a predator?  Kotori wasn’t worried about if she made a lot of friends, that wasn’t important in his mind.  Being respectful to those of noble blood and working with her pack mates is what mattered.  Not acting like an idiot would be important also.  Some of these things he’d learn in time but the fighting portion they would learn soon.

Unfortunately, no bears had been to close to the pack land.  Apparently, the pack was doing an excellent job of ensuring predators realized what they risked getting too close.  Crossing the border of the land he leads her toward redbood nook.  Habari had owned the land until recently but time was passed and now predators had figured out it was free to roam with less danger.  The bear wasn’t doing anyone any harm truth be told but it wasn’t far enough away from Kotori’s land for his taste and he just sort of wanted to fight it.  In this instance there was another reason to kill it, testing Sanna’s abilities.

“Let’s get it,” Kotori wasn’t going to just throw her in and watch.  The horned wolf charged forward, not bothering to hide sound or scent.  Kotori wanted a fun fight and slinking up for a fast cheap shot hardly seemed necessary.  The bear looked to Kotori, roared, and squatted on its back legs, not fully standing but still, appearing taller than it had been hoping to make Kotori reconsider his decision.  Kotori charged straight toward the face, snapping his jaws before jumping back as the bear dropped his heavy frame back onto all fours as he tried to land on the large wolf.  Kotori jogged around the bear, aiming to keep its attention on him.  Instead of going for fresh blood, he was trying to make it easier for Sanna to do the first bit of damage.

Blood means little, if anything, to Sanna. Putting one ahead of another just because they were related to someone else? It didn't make sense in her mind. Respect is earned. Trust would be even harder earned, but she'd gotten off on an alright foot with Kotori... so it seemed. No one had threatened her yet, no one had tried to harm her. The infection that had begun to form in the wound on her hind leg was treated well, and for that she was grateful. Not one to owe anyone anything, she was glad to accompany Kotori to find something to fight as soon as possible.

It took some time and a bit of a hike to find something worth fighting. Was the land that well maintained, that safe? Sanna quietly took note of it. She was grateful that her companion didn't feel the need to fill the silence between them with chatter, with smalltalk. It wasn't her style, and frankly, it bored her. Better to keep her forcus on tracking some sort of predator. They caught scent of the bear at what seemed like the same time. She gave a simple nod at the suggestion, head lowering, posture shifting. Sanna tracked the bear carefully, quietly.

Kotori charged head on, and Sanna couldn't stifle the slow suffering sigh. She did not have the same size advnatge he did, and she would have liked time to assess the situation before diving in head first. Still, she was okay to follow his lead. Sanna swung wide, moving to flank the creature while Kotori had it distracted. Hard and fast, Sanna moved to attack the back of the creature's knee. Her teeth dug deeply into the flesh, and her attack was savage. In combat, the girl is not quiet, and she does not shy from the brawl before her. The girl's plan is to cripple the predator first, and then more easily end things.

Who didn’t enjoy killing things that would also gladly kill you?  It wasn’t that Kotori wanted things to die so much as he enjoyed a good challenge and, of course, winning.  Fighting a bear face-to-face certainly isn’t the most common method and surely not the safest but it did well as a way to keep the bear's attention diverted.  So long as the bear missed any of its attempts to attack then the head was a grand place to be.

The scent of blood came with the bear roaring in anger.  The overly large walking rug started to twist with the attention of going for the one who injured it.  The ber’s eyes and teeth were no longer facing Kotori directly and that wouldn’t do.  The wolf boldly stepped in, bit the bear's chin and snarled shaking his head and ripping flesh and muscle from bone.

Kotori swiftly had to pivot sideways to avoid the bear’s bite and large paw.  It was consistently growing angrier which was perfect.  The angrier they got the stupider they got and he never labeled bears as overly smart.  Kotori had done damage that would cause pain, and some blood but his primary focus was still on just keeping the bear facing him.

The bear flailed and bellowed, and it seemed that Sanna was getting the job done. It had attempted to round on her, and rightfully so, but managed to get distracted somewhere along the way. That somewhere, she realized, was Kotori. Well, that was the someone. The somewhere happened to be the alpha having grabbed it by the chin. She didn't have time to be incredulous, despite wanting to. What an idiot, taking the thing by the face. Did he want to get hurt? That was how he'd get hurt, she was sure of it. Best to do what she could for damage while she was here.

The bear groaned, took a shaky step, and Sanna realized she'd done well to damage the creature's rear leg. It flailed, and began to stagger, catching her own leg with a great angry rear paw in the process. Still, there wasn't enough power left in the muscle to kick her off or force her away. Stagger as it would, and rage seemed to flow through the creature as he did. Excellent. Sanna snarled, plowing forward into the bear as she did. With a leap, she was upon his flank, ripping and tearing with all of her might. Blood and fur surrounding her, and she was digging deeply into the creature's back over its hip. Her teeth sunk into the little stored fat it had left from the long winter, finding easy purchase within it. If she could get deep enough, then she would be able to dig in and apply enough pressure, enough force to break the back.

Sanna can't babysit Kotori from this angle, though it's her first instinct. She viewed his overall approach as questionable, but if he'd made it this far then he could fend for himself... right? There wasn't an option other than trusting his judgement, so here she was.

Sanna appeared to be doing a good job with the bear.  The scent of blood was getting stronger, nor was there any hiding it on the bear's coat and the ground beneath it.  If Kotori kept playing at just distracting the bear then he’d miss out on the real fun.  Sanna had damaged the leg enough it would be slow, as well as weak.

Kotori twisted around, getting away from the bear's face and to the left shoulder where he slammed his horns deep into it then swiftly jerked his head up to leave nasty twin slash marks.  Once the horns were out his head kept moving so that in a smooth motion his fangs latched into the slashes he had just made, ripping easily into the muscles that were now exposed.
The bear was of course trying to get the two wolves off of it but the thing was staggering more than walking.  Death had been determined from when the fight started but now the bear had realized it  Angry roars had turned to frantic sounds of what Kotori imagined was fear.  Well, it wouldn’t take much longer.

The pair had full control over the situation. It was a coordinated effort, despite being a large undertaking. Large bear, large undertaking-- so it goes. Sanna clamored up the creature's side, and clutched the creature with shaky paws. An awkward position, but one that would ultimately pay off. Using her back legs as leverage, the creature force herself forward and up. It was here that she had it-- she really, really had it.

Her teeth sunk into the bear's neck. They ground down, and then she yanked back, taking a large section of flesh and hair with her. The blood was immense. She'd hit a major artery, and blood flowed with fervor from the wound. It coated the green and pale creature, running down her face. The bear let go a great, wild noise, flailing once and only once. That flail lead to a crash forward before crumpling and going still. There was no more movement from him.

Sanna pulled herself away from the carcass, wiping the blood from her eyes. Her gaze landed on Kotori, assessing, appraising. "Are you injured?" Her tone was breezy, businesslike. She'd managed to catch her breath, now she had to make sure that her partner was in one piece.
