The raiding party had returned a few days ago. Ignis paced deep in the caverns, back and forth over and over and over again on the ship that lay deep within its depths. He waited to hear word about how it went, and was irritated he hadn't gotten to go witness his kids' first raid. But as the Pirates began to trickle back to the pack lands, he learned from his cockatoo that the Pirates had lost. His kids hadn't immediately returned, but neither had the entire crew. He stopped in his pacing, crimson gaze narrowing as he debated on going to find them. He clicked his tongue as he lightly tapped the deck in thought. It wasn't the first time the Pirates had lost a raid, their last big win had been against Armada...after that though, they were back on a losing streak, it seemed. But how did Diablo, Rivin, and Aresenn do? Breathe in. Breathe out. Then he threw his head back, summoning the three of them to the bowels of the cavern. Wherever they were, they'd hear him. For once, this particular call demanded their presence. |

He had lost miserably. He was so incredibly disappointed in himself, he didn't dare to return to pack lands anytime soon. Instead, he had taken off further West, and there he had taken his anger out in a way that he shouldn't have, but what was done, was done. Did he regret it? No. He had little if any remorse for his actions. He didn't fear anyone. Didn't fear anything. He didn't know what sorts of consequences could happen, nor did he really think about it. But when his father called, he could hear the tone in his voice. Something told him he probably shouldn't keep his father waiting, and luckily, he was already on his way back home when Ignis' call summoned them. Diablo slunk towards the caverns, expecting Ignis to be where he usually was, but instead, he was met with a dimly lit path that led towards the ship that sat deeper within the caverns. He hadn't ever really been that far in...something about the darkness inside seemed to always set him on edge...but he supposed now he'd have no choice. At least his father had been considerate enough to leave a torch-lit path...though he couldn't say that the light was comforting. If anything, it made things feel a bit more....ominous. Or maybe it was just him. After all, his failure in the raid weighed heavy on him. And he wanted to avoid telling his father anything about it if he could. He didn't know why the three of them were being called, but he hoped it wasn't about the raid... |

The raid hadn’t gone as smoothly as she hoped. There was… a lot of failing and in the end they had lost. But you know what? Of the four wolves who won any of their battles that raid Rivin was among them. She had gotten her ass kicked by that stupid brown and white splotched koi, but she had some wounds of her face, currently covered in crushed, gunky herbs, that were a sort of mirror in style to the scars across her father’s own face. Irony, perhaps. Whereas his scars ran from above right eye and over his left, hers ran from above her left eye over her right. Still, she was annoyed, and that annoyance had come in the yearling lashed her tail back and forth in irritation. The victory against the first, older koi felt lackluster. Maybe she was just sore they lost… and while she was excited for the look of scars, loving the symbol of a fight survivor, they stung like a bitch. The girl came in after her brothers and, rather than sit, she eyed the eerie place with narrowed eyes. Was the lighting here different? She could feel that feeling under her skin again, hear faint, amused laughter from within. She wasn’t embarrassed at the second battle and the fact she had lost. She was more frustrated with the lack of training that had been done with them. They kind of just got tossed in expecting to know what to do and how to fight. Her gaze flicked to her father, respectful enough to at least give a nod of greeting. She didn’t know what this meeting was about, but she really didn’t want to have to be here right now. The stinging on her face just made her feel more agitated, encouraging her to tear something apart. "Talk," 'Think.' |

They filed in, one by one. They looked pissed. Defeated. Annoyed. Probably a plethora of other things bubbling underneath the surface. They had stalled in returning right away to pack lands to report how they'd done. And in doing so, he had found out from other sources that it hadn't gone terribly well. His only conclusion is that they'd done worse than expected...and that was something he would address now.
"Thank you for finally showing up." His tone was neither pleased nor displeased. Monotone. A little irritated, but he didn't show more than that. "I heard the raid didn't go over well for many of you. And I am disappointed to hear that you lost. But I suppose it's to be expected, all things considered." He had slacked in training them, sure. But he had also expected them to train regardless, with or without him. His gaze turned sharply to Diablo then. "But you, Diablo, I hear failed miserably. I expect a great deal more of you...the fact that you could barely hold your own in a fight is shameful!" He growled with a snap. "Each of you has a gift. And Diablo, I expect yours could further grow in power if you only used it! Same for the pair of you!"
He was talking about the potential demons that he was sure bubbled just beneath their surfaces. With Rivin, he could certainly see it. He could tell by the way of her mannerisms whenever he saw her. The frustration. The anger. The darkness brewed within her. It was there. And although he was once opposed to trying to deter it, he now felt it was best to embrace it. But Aresenn? He was sure it was there, too. Though maybe his son had better control...assuming it had begun to emerge, anyway. And Diablo? His horned child had been growing lazy. Ignis had gotten reports of him lazing around on the beach or hiding away out of sight to avoid his duties. But no more.
His tail lashed as irritation spread. Though he forced himself to sit as he looked at each of them in turn. "Things are only going to get harder as you grow up. Life isn't easy. The Pirates may be a carefree and ragtag group, and while we are among them, I expect more of you three than I do of them. Now...enlighten me about the raid. About your fights. What do you think went wrong and what do you think you could have done differently? I want to hear your thoughts."

His siblings arrived, and they didn't look very happy to be here, either. Fuck. He sighed as he waited for his father to speak, and when he did, his ears flattened to his skull. His father called him out on his miserable defeat and even poorer performance. He wanted to sink into the ground right then and there, but he steeled himself and defiantly met his father's gaze for a moment before he faltered and looked away. The fact that he didn't comment on Rivin and Aresenn's performance meant that he wasn't as disappointed in them...right? He was still angry, but it seemed to be directed at him more. Or at least, that's how it seemed. He glanced at his siblings for a brief moment before his attention was directed back to Ignis' question. "I...guess I could've trained more...I didn't really know what I was doing." Admittance. He had no fucking clue. He thought a real fight would be simple. Easy. All he had to do was try to hurt his opponents into submission, no? He'd been avoiding training wherever possible thinking he didn't need to. But obviously, he was wrong. |

Wow, a chewing out? Rivin flicked her ears back as Ignis spoke, a growl bubbling up in her throat as her father kept talking, even singling out Diablo for his performance. Was he serious? The girl kept quiet at first, claws scraping against the cavern floor in irritation. Her green gaze narrowed, that deep, twisting feeling within her starting to rise to a crescendo. She felt like she was going insane. He was really going to fault them for not being ready? She could see his tail lashing and, before she could speak, Diablo and Aresenn spoke up. Diablo was quick to be submissive about it, but Senn spoke in a way that stood up to their father. Rivin snorted as her brother finished, and a snarl ripped from her throat as her ears laid flat against her skull. “You are so quick to fault our performance and yet, were you there? No. Did you fucking train us? Did ANY of the adults bother to try and train us up for this raid? No. We’re supposed to train ourselves, right? How effective.” Rivin snorted in disgust. “As Diablo said, we didn’t really know what we were doing. The bit of fighting we were able to do we learned for ourselves, and, all things considered, I think we did pretty damn well for a bunch of yearlings that didn’t get any instruction from the so-called adults that should have been taking that training into their own paws. What were you doing? Still looking for the two that abandoned us?” Rivin hissed. She knew she was being aggressive, overstepping boundaries, but the girl didn’t care. She would speak her mind. “AND for the record, I not only won my first fight, I’m sure me and my companions left him with a scar to remember us. And in the second fight I held my own for the most part, the other kid was just TRAINED a bit better. Probably by an adult that gave a shit about making sure KIDS were prepared in case of a raid.” Rivin spat. “So here’s an idea. Instead of bitching about what we DIDN’T do, maybe ENSURE we do by offering us TRAINING instead of BITCHING!” Her own tail was lashing back and forth as she fixed her gaze on Ignis. Just beneath the surface, feeding on her anger, that darkest part of herself finally pushed through. Rivin’s fur finally fell flat, and a chuckle, a shift in her entire demeanor, fell from her lips. “Yes… perhaps training your children would be best, wouldn’t it?” The voice Rivin spoke with now was more refined. The look in her eyes had faded from angered to amused as she looked up at Ignis with a smirk. A new player had entered the fray. "Talk," 'Think.' |
