Cackling Hyenas

It wasn’t unusual for the young pup to be outside of Tojo packlands. As long as he took a companion or someone with him, the general rule was that he was allowed to go. The enticement of adventuring wasn’t what led him out of the bamboo that day. His curiosity about the land that lay beside the maze is what drew him to it. Whenever his mother would take them out, she generally avoided this area. When he thought about it, most of those who lived in Tojo avoided this land that was literally their neighbor. He wondered what was so bad about it.

Other than it was dismally ugly and full of spiny trees that were not pleasant to lean against, he didn’t see why they couldn’t travel through it. There was lack of prey and water, that much he could tell. Something else he noticed was making his nose scrunch up. Underlying the clay and dusty smell of this generic wasteland was a rotten scent that was worse than skunk. But what exactly it was was beyond his knowledge.

Fortunately, his question would soon be answered as he made his way to the central area of the grove. Unfortunately for him, he would be faced with three snarling hyenas that looked worse for wear. Their jaws slobbered with blood speckled drool as their starved gazes honed in on the growing pup. While he would not be tasty in the slightest, their hunger would win. Standing his ground, Akito faced the three hyenas with one of the Kaicho’s Akita dogs at his side. They readied themselves for whatever would happen next as the three hyenas charged them.
