They probably should have kept up with the raiding party but Rivin couldn’t help but be tempted by the urge to do some poking around. She started to fall to the back of the party and, when her actions were noticed by one of her brothers, Aresenn, Rivin had grinned and gave him the offer to slip away with her. Whether or not he would though… that was the question. She let the party go on ahead, sure that she could catch up with them later, as they reached the heart of the Cedar falls. The earthy scent of pine needles, wood, and damp earth filled her nose. She could smell water, and lots of it. Unlike the ocean, however, this waster didn’t smell salty. Fresh water, and that was more than enough reason for Rivin to want to check out the source.

The world here was different. The colors of autumn touched the land and as Rivin came across the river she could see several salmon making their way up stream. Her ears perked forward with curiosity. Why were they going upstream? She twitched her nose again, wrinkling it back as the scent of another predator caught her attention. Great… what the hell was that smell from? It reminded her of Saga, well, sort of? It was different. Definitely not the white furred bear that had joined them for a bit. Creeping alongside the water, Rivin decided she was going to find that predator…

Maybe she could let off a little steam before the raid occurred.

Aresenn wasn’t particularly excited for their yearling raid- or at least as much as some of the others. Even still, he followed dutifully along with an unimpressed grimace plastered to his features- one that hadn’t really shown any signs of fading until he noticed Rivin falling behind out of the corner of his eye. Casting an inquiring glance in her direction, he quickly understood what her intentions were. With a casual panning glance around his accompanying pack mates, he too made the conscious effort to slow down. From what he could tell, nobody noticed as they maintained their pace- or if they did, they didn’t indicate as such.

The southern continent wasn’t like their own. While it seemed to be a different season here, there was warmth to the wind’s breath. The glow of autumn softened by something that he couldn’t quite pick out. And while he trailed his sister to the trickle of moving water- he became suddenly aware of the sensation as if he were being watched. Tossing a quick look over his shoulder, he propelled himself forward with a little more urgency. When he broke through the tree line, his amber eyes immediately found the crimson-streaked form of his sibling. At the same time, he was hit with the scent of a far larger predator as it came sweeping across the surface of the river. Narrowing his eyes, he searched the opposite side of the river for such a beast. “Rivin.” He mumbled softly, wanting to get her attention, but at the same time not wanting to alert a threat to their presence. But judging by her body language, she noticed the scent too.

But before they could communicate a plan, a sudden snarl lead his gaze to the lumbering form of a brown bear as it left its cover from a particularly dense undergrowth just a little ways upstream. Tensing his muscles, he did his best to prepare as it charged them to rid its territory of wolves.

Rivin became aware of the sound of approaching pawsteps and heard her brother as he uttered her name. An ear flicked back toward him but Rivin did not look back to her brother. She wanted to be alert, and maybe come up with a plan of action. She was sure Senn had noticed the scent of the bear too judging by how quiet his voice had been. Likely trying to not alert the bear of their presence. But luck was not on their side. They had no time to formulate a plan as the roar of the other beast burst through the undergrowth from a spot upstream. Rivin’s fur bristled and she met the bear’s snarl with one of her own.

It was time to teach this beast a lesson about messing with wolves! The yearling raced forward, charging to meet the beast. She was eager to get her teeth in something, and the bear was going to be her victim. She wasn’t afraid of what it could potentially do to her if she was careless. She lunged forward, tilting her head to the left as she attempted to move to her right and slash across the bear’s side. She felt the wind of a swipe pass her, and could smell the ursine’s horrid breath.

“Come on, Aresenn! Let’s take this thing down!” She called to her brother.

Rivin has two companions - a bobcat and a wolverine. Unless otherwise mentioned IC, assume that they are close by.

Even with the impending threat of the charging bear, his sister obviously wasn’t swayed. He watched in sudden surprise as Rivin darted forward to meet the massive predator head on. Not a second thought. Brave or stupid, he couldn’t tell. And while he would have liked to have a better idea as to how this was going to go down, he wasn’t about to leave Riv to fend for herself. Much like he did when he and Seph were fighting together, Aresenn made a mad dash in a wide arch to get on the opposite side of the beast. It was entirely engaged with his sister, so approaching it from its hind quarters was relatively simple. Though, when he got close enough to make contact, Aresenn launched himself forward, catching the back of their opponent's leg in his splayed jaws.

With as much force as he could muster, he tore into flesh and muscle. That certainly got its attention. And as it tried to spin around to get at him, the Praetor boy did his absolute best to maintain his death grip, propelling his body sideways to avoid getting swiped as much as he could manage.
