It was late afternoon. A light spattering of clouds rolled lazily across the sky. Spring had sprung and was quickly bringing Summer along with it. The air was warm and humid, almost sticky on their fur as the two girls made their way to who knew where. Having just ate, bellies full, and full of tons of energy, Delphi had convinced Unagi to go on an adventure. At first, their adventure was to stay within the bounds of Emerald Valley. That was the safe zone as their parents would be able to save them if need be. Except, unfortunately, this time, Delphi had led herself and Unagi toward a wide gaping hole in the side of the mountain. The entrance to Descensum was enticing. Thankfully good dad Oki was following in the shadows without their knowledge. Truthfully, it was a scary place to anyone who wasn't a fearless pup ready to take on the world. They were fearless though and when the two girls had seen a couple of weasels scamper off into the shadows of the cave, they had to follow! Unagi had mentioned she wanted to try out hunting and Delphi was happy to go along with it because why the heck not! "I think they went in there!" She squeaked in her too high vocals as she paused at the entrance to the cave. Water dripped from the ceiling as she peered into the darkness. A slim trail led down into the depths where the sound of a stream could be heard. "You thin' there's plants down there?" Delphi asks as she turns her bi-colored gaze to her larger sister. While some of her siblings wanted to fight and hunt, Delphi wanted to explore and experiment. If she could find something new, she would be more than happy.

The day is nice and Unagi is content to spend the day trailing after her sister, Delphi. While she is happy to just exploring the valley, she also knows that she will not let her sister wander off alone. A couple of weasels cross their path and the girl ponders aloud what it be like hunting one. Delphi takes that idea and runs for it, quite literally. They pause at the entrance of the strange cave and Unagi squints into the darkness to try and make out any shadows that move.

On their way here, the pair had passed a rather suspicious looking rock and she doesn’t know if should trust any other rocks. A question is posed and Unagi her black and pink gaze to Delphi. Slowly, like the sun appearing after a storm, a smile lifts her features up. Finally, her slightly deeper voice breaks the silence, “Only one way to find out.” A wink is tossed as she boldly steps into the cave, nose lifted slightly as she continuously scents the air and follows after the scent trail that the weasels have left.


"Hattori-Klein Unagi"

Delphi almost hadn't noticed the very suspicious-looking rock. She could have almost sworn it was familiar looking but the huff of "don't mind me!" made the pup ignore whatever or whoever it was with a shrug. Surely it was nothing, right? Anyway! Back to the adventure! She was staring down into the darkness with her sister, Unagi. Something like nerves was starting to tingle within her but she took it as excitement instead of fear. Not really the smartest thing to do but as of right now, she really wanted to see if there were plants at the bottom! Good thing her sister was just as daring as she was because the wink sent her way was all she needed to be convinced to go in! Trying to stay somewhat sneaky to not scare off the weasels her sisters sniffed after, Delphi went into a crouch as she took her first steps into the cave. The path was somewhat slippery with tiny rocks that occasionally crumbled off the edge and into the darkness. Trying to stay close to the wall and her bigger sister, Delphi caught herself holding her breath multiple times. It really was spooky down here, but she didn't mind as long as someone was with her! "I thin' I hear them!" Delphi said in a very loud whisper that wasn't really a whisper as she caught sight of their tails disappearing at the bottom of the path. Hurrying her steps, she chased after them, nearly sliding her way to the bottom. They soon were enveloped in the darkness. Her paws touched something wet, almost slimy, but she ignored it. What really caught her eye was the wall of vines toward the back of the cavern that held on for dear life with the few strands that wafted in from the cracks in the ceiling.

The girl’s make their way into the cave, the slippery rocks no match for their small, clumsy paws. As carefully as two naïve pups can be, Unagi and Delphi descend further down into the darkness. In a very loud whisper, her sister informs her that she thinks she can hear the weasels and Unagi shoots her an excited grin. The sight of tails disappearing into the gloom at the bottom of the path has the black and white girl picking up her pace while her nose works overtime as she tracks their scent.

Silently, she leads the way, tail lashing from side to side in eager anticipation as the prey animals scent grows stronger. The darkness surrounds them, swallowing up their forms as they hit level ground and start into the new tunnel. Sounds surround the pair, the slip of small paws reverbing as loud as a gun going off in a silent room. Claws click against stone as they go and Unagi continuously checks to make certain that Delphi is safe and staying close to her.

While the dark may scare many, Unagi is not afraid since the thought of getting hurt has not yet entered her young mind. Ahead of the pair, a small pool of light appears and begins to grow. As they near the unknown source of light, the tunnel opens up into a small underground pool of water and, in the clear depths, some bioluminescent algae shine brightly. Unagi slows, looking back to Delphi before inclining her head toward the edge of water.

There, the two small weasels that the girls have been chasing drink to their hearts content without a care in the world. Too bad death stalks them today.


"Hattori-Klein Unagi"

Being as small as she is, Delphi is sure to keep close to her sister’s paws. Even as she scrambles to keep purchase upon the slippery ground, she knows not to fall behind. Huffing and slightly out of breath, she is thankful when they are on level ground. The end is in sight! There is light shining down from above and something else shining from below. Curiosity piques as her sister quietly points out the two weasels drinking hungrily from the glimmering pool. This was new! Delphi’s dual colored eyes hone in on the bioluminescent pool as ripples break out across its surface. She wasn’t so much as interested in the weasels now as she was in what was making the water glow like that! Her mouth opens slightly in awe as she slows her steps and keeps by her sister’s side. Every few seconds, her own eyes flicker over to Unagi to ensure that the larger sister is still close by. “You get the weasels, I’ll check out the water!” Delphi whispers now as quietly as she can - even though it still echoes slightly through the cavern.

The pair of pups make their way through the darkness until they find a sliver of light illuminating a pool of glowing water. As they move closer, her black and pink eyes slide over to Delphi as the smaller girl gives instructions. Unagi dips her head in agreement before whispering, “I will be right back. Don’t go too far.” A quick wink is given before the black and white pup quickly scurries around the edge of the water until she is closer to the stinky creatures.

Small body tenses as she approaches them, ready to give chase if that is what is needed. A small head swivels in her direction and a squeak of alarm is given before the pair are scrambling away from the water in an attempt to avoid the fat pup. Thankfully, they do not have many options for escape since Unagi blocks the way back to cavern with her body and the only way she leaves open for them ends in a rock wall.

Swiftly she backs them up against the wall, easily dispatching one with a sharp bite to its neck before she turns to snag the other one by its haunches as it attempts to slip past her. Unexpectedly, the weasel suddenly turns and attempts to bite at her muzzle which surprises the pup and forces her to drop the creature to avoid being harmed. Again, it attempts to flee but Unagi is ready this time. Using a paw, she pins down the tail and, when the weasel turns to lash out, she ends its life much like the first one.

Gathering the dead creatures in her maw, the girl happily trots back to where she had left Delphi, depositing the snacks at her smaller sibling’s paws. With a smile and wag of tail, the girl asks, “Find anything interesting?”


"Hattori-Klein Unagi"

Delphi winks back at Unagi before turning her attention to the pool. Certain her sister is capable of taking the weasels down, she does not worry. Instead, she approaches the edge of the glowing pool. A hissing sound of awe escapes her lips as she lowers her muzzle closer to the water. Uncertain if it is safe to drink, she lets her gaze wander around. From the ceiling to the wall to the rocks that surround the water, she notices some greenery and many more mushrooms. Nearby, a particularly large one with a wide brown cap and white stem reflects the glow of the pool. Reaching her nose out to poke at it, Delphi's lips wrinkle at the bitter taste. Why was it that everything uncooked tasted not good? Letting out a snort, she gathers the mushroom anyway just as her sister is returning with the weasels in tow. From the sight of the blood trailing behind Unagi, Delph can tell she was successful. With a wag of her tail, she holds out the mushroom for her sister to look at. "Just this mushroom, not much else. Wasn't sure if the water was safe..." Delphi's gaze glances at the glowing pool one more time before shifting back to Unagi.
