Pretend to be a child again

She woke slowly, struggling to pull herself from the fog of sleep. When she did finally find her way to waking, she was momentarily lost. Confused on where she was. She felt she should have seen the eyes of a leopard in the dark, but instead there was another wolf. For a moment, she pulled away, alarmed and confused. Before the scent of the wolf told her who it was. It was her mother. So far, Widow was the only wolf immediately familiar to her. One she recognised, and understood fundamentally that she knew and trusted.

A little while later, some time after she had woken, Widow told her she was sending an old friend to spend time with her. Someone she knew from before. She fought the urge to tuck under her mothers paws, and instead found the courage to take a step forward, looking part way up at the other wolf. Too shy to meet their eyes. “Hello, your Tazzy, right?” She said, her voice rising in question. She knew she was supposed to recognise this wolf. Perhaps she even would, if she looked them in the eye. But she found she simply couldn’t.
