over the past few weeks, Spider has been doing some thinking. which some may perceive as rather…dangerous, but it’s led to an important epiphany: they want to protect their home, their pack, the people who gave them a chance when they were a shivering pup with no one to turn to. the flood in the Col’s had only solidified this decision; seeing their packmates in such strife, finding themselves grappling desperately to keep their head above water…they’d been useless, and that’d only been against Mother Nature! what would they do if there was real danger? if another pack threatened the Armada? they couldn’t just stand by like a helpless whelp and wait to be saved by Bas and Hazel yet again. no, it was time they took matters into their own hands: they were going to be a Warrior. now all they had to do was find enough opponents to practice with. they were going to be a teenager come spring, after all - there was no time to waste. He had been growing increasingly frustrated as the weeks passed, and still there was no permanent relief in sight. The migraines still plagued him frequently, the stutter wouldn't go away, and he had been having trouble controlling his emotions. Ever since the flood and waking up from his coma, things had changed for him. Though he had yet to tell anyone about the changes he was experiencing beyond the stuttering (which he couldn't hide when he talked to others), he wasn't sure if he should. He feared being judged. Feared being seen as week, or seen as less than the others. Although there were some in the Armada that had their own disabilities, he was not ready to admit that he had something going on beyond the obvious.

Frustrated, he walked through the woods until he found a tiny black figure. Though he had seen them around, he was not familiar with them and had never officially met them before. He had been pretty reclusive before, and even more so after his incident. But he was curious about them. And why the Fatalis opted to adopt them into their ranks. Though he supposed it didn't matter now, did it? His grandfather seemed to have the tendency to do that. "Hey, ya lookin' for s-s-something?"

"Speech!"

the boy who appears before them is vaguely familiar, though they don’t recall ever having conversed with him. likely they’ve seen him around, filling the backdrop of daily life within the Armada. recently Spider has come to understand just how big a pack the Armada is, at least a third of the size of many other packs; it’s not unlikely that they’ve yet to meet even half of its members. critically they eye up the boy, taking in his larger size and trying to weigh up their odds against him. ah well, this will likely be a fun challenge. “a spar,” they say promptly, deciding not to beat around the bush. they unsheath their dagger, the right side of their mouth quirking up in a teasing little smile. “come knock me around a bit, if you can manage it.”

"A spar," Oh boy...he had yet to ever really take a shot at that, despite his interest in wanting to do so. He had watched others spar before, but this would be his first time. Catching him even further by surprise, she slips out a dagger and he hesitates a bit. "Uh...er...okay...I've n-never s-s-sparred before...much less with something l-l-like that..." Well, there was a first for everything, right? He didn't know them very well if at all, had only seen 'em around here and there, but not very often either since he often preferred to stay around Grimoire's bar, helping him out with whatever he needed. He felt a little more confident when he was helping Grim with even the most mundane of tasks, but out and about? He knew he wasn't as confident, if at all. Not since after his incident.

But if it was a spar she wanted, he would oblige. After all, he figured it'd help with his own frustrations about himself. "Okay, just promise not to s-stab me!" Taking a deep breath, he wondered how he was even supposed to begin. Screw it, might as well do what he could, right? Instinctively settling into his natural defenses, he peeled his lips back and ran at her, aiming to come head on and bowl her over. She was much smaller than him by a landslide, so he wasn't exactly sure if his effort was in vain or not. Provided he was able to get close, he'd reach down in an attempt to snatch her up by the scruff to try and lift her off her feet.

’okay, just promise not to stab me! “of course not!” Spider giggles, titling their head. this boy is strange! they shift into a defensive stance as the boy rushes at them, head lowered and ears tucked, protecting their throat from the teeth of their opponent. they plant their feet, hoping to use what little weight they possess to anchor themselves to the earth - but the boy is able to latch onto their scruff, and makes quick work of whisking them off their feet. frustration bursts from them in a long-suffering growl, wishing dearly they aren’t so easy to overpower. no matter, all hope isn’t lost. kicking out, Spider churns their feet to gain momentum, hoping it’ll enable them to swing around in his grip. should this prove successful, they’ll use this proximity to clamp down onto his ear or cheek; nothing painful, just hard enough for him to drop them.
