The boy wanted to surprise Dusk, and so, without telling her ahead of time, he set off for the borders of the lands. The garden, the place where he had seen the other pixie, seemed like the perfect place to find another present. He’d already given her one of each of the colors of his feathers. It was a longer trek to get there than he remembered, and by the time Gavroche arrived, his tongue was lolling out of his mouth. Phew! He was looking around, hoping that he might see the girl from before. She could help him pick out a flower! Only… what he saw wasn’t the girl, but it was furry… and it was really, really big. Gavroche’s ears fell as he looked up at it, swallowing hard as the grizzly turned and laid eyes on him. Uhh… What did Dusk say about protecting himself again? He set his defenses, a tiny growl bubbling in his throat. He wasn’t gonna run! The bear was unimpressed, taking slow, lumbering steps towards what it thought was an easy meal.

Gav thought that he was clever in sneaking away, but Dusk had grown quite attached to the boy. He'd given her feathers and the dark fae wore them on a leather thong around her neck. As it was, she felt more affection for the little winged pup than her own brothers. So, when he crept away from the castle, Dusk noticed his absence and followed.

Quietly, the young woman tailed the multi-hued pup out into the God's Garden. There was that acrid stench of bear on the air and Dusks fur stood on end. Stalking was over with. A burst of speed send her flying into the clearing where Gav stood. The kid was trying to intimidate a bear, but it wasn't working in the slightest. The grizzly stalked towards Gav and suddenly Dusk was between the two. Lips peeled back and the woman snarled aloud, already readying Whisper for an attack. One hind paw gave the boy a little push, making sure that she knew where he was before she let her tail fly, the blades of her weapon cutting into the face of the bear. It shook its blocky skull and looked at the pair of wolves in shock, but one strike wasn't going to be enough. It continued towards them.

What had seemed easy prey was quickly protected, and the bear gave a grunt as a larger wolf put itself between him and the pup. Lips lifted to reveal teeth, but by then blades were already cutting into its face. The bear roared and rose on its hind paws as blood fell into its eyes. Gavroche, who had been surprised by Dusk’s sudden arrival, had been frozen at first. But realizing she was here, and that she was going to fight with him gave the small child all the courage he would need. Gavroche kept his wings close to his body as he darted around Dusk’s body and fearlessly moved on the outside of the bear. He knew Dusk’s weapon was sharp, she had warned him not to play with it and Gav had listened. But he had to help her beat the bear! With a snarl, wanting to protect his friend, the boy dove at the bear’s ankle and chomped as hard as he could as it staggered. Thankfully he was small enough to ride on the top of its paw as he spread his legs a bit to maintain his balance. He was doing it! He was going to be a fighter, just like Dusk!

As she focused on the bear, Gav slipped away from her. The boy ran around the ursine and sank his little teeth into one ankle. Dammit. Just like her siblings, he thought he needed to help. She couldn't fault him for that one bit, but it made things a little harder. She would have to try not to hit Gav with her weapon while hitting the bear.

Leaping forward, Dusks jaws opened wide. While the bear was distracted by looking at Gav, she sank her teeth into the side of its face. With extra powerful jaws, she felt the eye socked of the bear crack beneath her bite. The grizzly forgot the boy completely and roared, shaking its head and flinging Dusk away from its body. The eye ran red but it only needed one eye to see the dark fae that it was now running towards.

The bear didn’t seem to feel his teeth, but Gavroche would not release his hold. He growled around the fur, but the bear was focused on the larger threat. He could only hear the wounds of the fighting as he shook his head back and forth, worsening the tiny wound he was making. But then things got really, really loud. There was a cracking sound, then a roar of pain. From the corner of his eye Gavroche saw Dusk get flung and he felt anger rise. No! The bear was going to hurt her! It was running, and Gav, using his dexterous paws, clung to fur as he started clawing up the bear’s leg. It was almost at Dusk when Gavroche reached his target; the bear’s shaft. “No hurt Dusk!” The bear probably didn’t hear him, but it felt where Gavroche’s teeth sank this time. The boy was left hanging on a veeeery sensitive area as the bear shrieked, now moving more like a bucking mustang as it tried to dislodge the puppy from his junk. Gavroche could feel blood in his mouth, but the pup held on for all he was worth. The bear was not going to hurt Dusk!

Dusk was flung away but she landed on her paws with barely a stumble. By the time she circled back, things had...escalated. The winged boy was hanging from the crotch of the bear, his teeth imbedded in some very sensitive flesh. The grizzly spun and bucked, but the boy was tenacious. "In just a minute, I need you to let go, Gav!" She called out to the boy as she ran forward.

There was fear in the bears eyes. It had no idea what was happening to its lower bits, but it didn't like it. The distraction and terror would work in Dusks favor. The girl rammed her head hard against the broken side of the bears face and it squealed. As Gav let go, the bear tucked its tiny tail and began running from the garden as fast as its paws would let it.

Mission success! Gavroche swung from the bear as it tossed itself in an attempt to get him to let go. But rather than give it what it wanted his forepaws sought to try and dig into whatever they could - aka just harassing more of the bear’s crotch. While his claws weren’t as sharp as his fangs, he wasn’t exactly letting the bear off easy! Snarls came from the boy as he refused to let go, at least until he heard Dusk. Trusting her completely, even without knowing her plan, he held on for a couple more seconds. Then the boy released, tucking his body in close as he rolled into the grass. He heard the bear squeal with pain, and by the time he uncurled himself it was running away! Gavroche leapt to his paws, barking after it.

“That’s what you get, you big meanie!” He licked the blood from his maw and looked over at Dusk, tail wagging proudly. There had been no sense of danger, only the drive to help Dusk, even if she didn’t need protecting. The boy hopped over to her, beaming up at his friend. “He was no match for us~” The boy said happily.
