Blossom Of Snow, May You Bloom And Grow
Delphi <3
The move to join her grandpa’s pack on the snow mountain had been thrilling to say the least. Unagi has found that the cold conditions are perfect for her and the growing pup is able to comfortable exercise without overheating. Because of this, her puppy fat is starting to lessen and muscles are slowly being built up. Hunting is her favorite past time and the girl has tracked prey all over the snowy paths that lead up and down the mountain. In these travels, she has found special things that she had never before laid eyes and one of those treasures is now held loosely in her mouth.
A small bundle of silvery white flowers is delicately held between her teeth, the girl using the utmost care to handle them. It had not escaped her noticed that Delphi had been injured and Unagi has really wanted to cheer her sibling up since the colorful girl has been… different since the attack. Family means everything to her and Unagi feels bad that she has not sought out Delphi sooner but she hopes that, with the gift, her sister can forgive her. So, the black and white pup trots purposefully through the snow of their new home in search of her sister, her small gift of edelweiss flowers held aloft in her maw.
Delphi had not been on her way to go find Strai. Uh, Thrall. Right, she was mad at him? Hated him? Might like him? Feelings were… complicated. Definitely difficult as her furrowed brow continued to create creases along her forehead. Unsure of how she felt or how she was supposed to feel, Delphi wandered. Originally, she had wanted to go see him. He had recently gifted her some tail daggers which were really cool. But would that bother him too much? Why did she care? Did he care?
Her mind felt as if it was racing a million miles a minute. There was no way she was paying to anything outside of her own bubble. Walking along, down an all too familiar path, not looking where she is going. She has a little trouble stepping through the drifts of snow since she is so small, but its nothing she can’t manage. As she makes her way around a corner, she is suddenly face to face with her sister. A startled yelp leaves her as she stumbles backward and falls into the soft snow.
“Unagi! Where’ve you been?” Delphi asks as she smiles up at her beloved sister.
The aroma that the edelweiss gives off effectively covers up any other scents that might have reached the girl’s nose, including that of the very sibling she is trying to seeking out. Rounding a corner, Unagi almost plows into Delphi and she is forced to skid to stop to avoid doing just that. Snow flies as her sister gives a startled yelp and stumbles backward which has the monochrome girl’s lips pulling downward into a frown causes sadness to ripple across her features. Thankfully, Delphi recovers quickly and smiles up her, questioning where she has been.
Blinking slowly, Unagi tilts her head slightly in thought before taking a small, slow step forward so she can carefully, deposit the delicate flowers at her sibling’s paws. With that done, she quickly backs off to give Delphi space and quickly says, “I was just looking for you.” Mismatched eyes peer down at her sister, sadness and concern clearly evident in her gaze as she spies her sister’s now docked tail.
Softly and with great love, the monochrome girl says, “I heard about what happened and wanted to get you something to try and help you feel better. So, I found these pretty flowers on some of the steeper paths in the mountains and, well, I know you like healing things! So I um… I picked them for you.” A shy smile crosses her lips as her brows lift in quiet expectation, ready for Delphi to either enjoy the silvery flowers or to brush them off.
Truthfully, Unagi doesn’t know if they are good for healing stuff or really anything besides just looking pretty. The girl had just seen the pretty plant while trekking some dangerous paths in the mountain and thought that they might cheer up her smaller sibling. Well… Unagi can certainly hope, right?
Concern crosses her mind as she notices the conflicted and sad expression on her sister's face. Was something wrong? Delphi's ears flick backward and her smile falters as she notices how Unagi looks at her. Agitation quickly replaces her concern. She wasn't some useless little pup anymore! Just because her tail was docked didn't mean she couldn't fend for herself! She'd been caught off guard... Her fur bristles slightly as her sister begins to speak. Her eyes turned down to the flowers placed at her paws. Why did Unagi feel that giving her these would help? Where was she when she was up late crying through the pain of having her tail docked?
Yet, this was her sister. She only had so many of those and being mad at her wouldn't help the situation. As much as she wants to scream at Unagi, she doesn't. Instead, Delphi takes a deep breath and erases the irritated look. Replacing the crinkles with a hesitant smile, she dips down to pick up the flowers and places them gently in the satchel strapped over her shoulder. "Thanks, sis, they're lovely!" Delphi comments as she turns her attention back to Unagi. "I'll definitely be able to use them," she even added a little wag of her tail to help show that she wasn't going to hold grudges or be upset.
"Been up to anything fun lately?" Delphi is quick to change the subject. "Actually, we should head inside. A tad cold, don't you think?" Her smile grows as she turns to face the path that leads back up to the caverns within Fenrir's Maw.
Unagi wasn’t sure what to expect when she presented the flowers to Delphi and, while she had thought that there might be anger, when it flickers across her sister’s features, the girl realizes just how much it hurts her heart. Guilt weighs her down, tugging at her features until they sag; reflecting exactly what she has been feeling on the inside. Ears droop, head ducks, and regret ripples like waves across a still pond over her. Tears suddenly sting the back of her eyes and she cannot help but think, yet again, that maybe, if she hadn’t been with her mother in Ashen, the black and white girl could have prevented this entire tragedy from ever occurring.
The flowers had been a weak attempt at an apology and, in her heart of hearts, the girl had known that but hope always lightens the heaviness that fear brings and she had carefully set about picking the edelweiss in the hopes of offering something that her words have been unable to express. Tail tucks as the anger builds in her smaller sibling and Unagi weakly says, “I’m sorry, Delphi.” She does not go on to explain or offer any sort of excuse for her not being by her sister’s side when she was hurt because, everything that Delphi feels toward her, is completely warranted.
Unagi does not try to deflect or defuse it any way because she knows that she deserves every single ounce of anger. Suddenly, her sister takes a deep breath, erasing the irritated look from her face in favor of replacing it with a hesitant smile. Collecting the flowers, Delphi places them in the satchel that is strapped over her shoulder, offering kind words that she knows she doesn’t deserve. Dipping her head in acknowledgement, the girl offers a weak smile but nothing else. Delphi is quick to change the subject and Unagi does her best to gather herself, offering a shrug of her shoulders at the prospect of having done anything fun lately.
However, her smaller sister quickly turns the subject to the fact that should probably be heading inside before she can she can even reply and turns in the direction that the caverns lay. Blinking, the black and white girl can’t help but feel like she is getting emotional whiplash from all the feelings that rapidly cycle through her. Uttering a soft, “Okay”, she moves to Delphi’s side and attempts to shield her from the worst of the wind that whips around them. While Delphi may not hold a grudge against her or be upset, Unagi decides she will do that for her and will continue to beat herself up over the fact for… well, forever.
Tilting her head down so she can look at her sibling, the fatter girl softly says, “I don’t know about fun but mom and I have been traveling between Ashen and here. We were staying there when we got the news about…” her words falter and fall away, the shame she has felt about the entire situation raising to the surface once more. Maybe she should have demanded that they return sooner or just struck out on her own to be beside her injured sibling. Head lifts, no longer able to meet Delphi’s gaze and she instead, looks out over the area and says, “What about you?”
A wince immediately pulls at her features at the poor choice of subject ad her tail tucks up against her belly as she readies for a verbal assault that she knows she deserves.
