By now, news had trickled down to Wylan about Spider’s awesome new weapon. The six month old boy was yet to get anything anywhere near as exciting himself. Charlie had told him he would receive his first weapon when he was a year old. But, as it was with many children, patience was not his strong suit. He raced up to the treehouse door, almost hopping from paw to paw with excitement. It took him a moment to remember he needed to knock and he proceeded to do so with perhaps a little too much zealousness. He waited a moment - only a few seconds, really - before the door was opened. The towering form of Basilisk stood behind the door. “Hello Sir, Mister, err, Basilisk” he said, grinning up at the adult. “Is Spider around to play” Instead of answering him, Basilisk turned his head back towards the inside of the house. “Spider! There's someone here to see you” He called out, and didn’t move from the door. Regardless, the winged wolf took it as an invitation. He darted underneath the giant, his wings tucked in as he pranced through the house. “Ohh, I smell snacks!” he said, which elicited something that sounded like a grumble from Basilisk. He moved further into the house, looking for Spiders room. "Speech"

a ruckus at the front door draws Spider’s attention, and they pop their head out into the hall, trying to squint past Bas’ behemoth frame to see the person on their doorstep. they don’t have to wait long - Wylan’s winged frame squeezes past their Dad and comes galloping towards them, radiating his trademark infectious enthusiasm. “hiya, Feathers!” they call, coming to greet him. despite their six month lead on the pup, Wylan continues to grow bigger every day; Spider knows one day he will tower over them just as Bas does. for now, they relish in their ability to lift a pair and ruffle the fur atop Wylan’s head, grinning as it sticks up.

“what brings you here, hm?” they ask, leading him to the kitchen. having a friend over means stocking up on snacks! everyone knows that! “did you miss my face that bad?” of course, they can guess why Wylan is visiting…but it’s fun to tease him. and until he comes out and says it, they can prance around with their dagger on full display and a seemingly clueless expression on their face.

Wylan grinned, his tail wagging a mile a minute as Spider came into view. He let the other wolf ruffle his head, and repaid the favour by dipping the lead feather of each wing forward, and attempting to stick them in Spider’s ears. “You!” he answered excitedly in response to Spider’s question. Well, them and the dagger, of course. “It is a pretty exciting face” He said agreeably as he followed Spider into the kitchen. He did cast a glance back at Basilisk. He wasn’t sure if another adult would let play with the dagger. But he needn't have worried. Bas called back to let Spider know he was going on patrol, and vanished out the door. Freedom from adults! He immediately turned to Spider and adopted the play-bow position. “Show me, show me! I wanna see” He said. "Speech"

Spider sets out a variety of snacks as Bas disappears out the door, calling a careless goodbye over their shoulder. "let's go to my room," they whisper, hefting the snacks into their arms. they lead the way down the hall and push open the door, ushering Wylan inside. then, provided he follows, they set out the snacks and sit down to face the boy. secretly they're enjoying making Wylan wait just a little bit longer, letting the anticipation build. still, they aren't going to make him wait too long - they aren't mean. with great ceremony, they unsheath the dagger in a slow pull, letting the scrape of metal on metal ring out through the air. "here it is," they announce, presenting it to Wylan. "the dagger of the infamous Spider Fatalis."  peering up at Wylan, they add in a deliberately casual, conversational tone, "would you like to hold it?"

Wylan practically danced with impatience as he waited for Spider to be ready. Food was good, but sharp and shiny things were better. He followed the smaller wolf to their room, and there at last the snacks were set down, and the dagger was unsheathed. “Yes, yes, yes!” He agreed excitedly, reaching forward with a paw, and cupping his wings forward around the both of them. Leaning in as he did so. He touched it first with a careful paw, glancing up at Spider before taking the dagger from them. With a huge grin, he swiped it through the air. Letting it sing as it moved. Oh yeah, it was definitely shiny. "Speech"

Spider watches the boy with amusement, a comical lilt to one corner of their mouth. "whatdya think?"  they inquire, shoving a snack into their mouth. the resulting words are an inelegant spray of crumbs. "pretty neat, huh?"  sometimes they still can't believe such a beautiful, dangerous thing really belongs to them. since Bas showed them how, they've been cleaning and sharpening it near-religiously, taking as much care with it as they can. "try it out," they suggest to Wylan. "give it a few swings."  making the boy happy warms their heart, and watching his excitement over their own weapon is certainly gratifying. Spider hasn't forgotten that Wylan was their first real friend in the Armada, and they never will. if a few minutes with their prized possessions is enough to repay that kindess...well, it's a small price, really.
