It'd been a while since she had been able to really stretch her muscles. She hadn't been out much since her newest pups had been born, and most of the exercise she got nowadays was chasing them around along with running the pack. It wasn't a bad life, honestly. She enjoyed what she did, and she loved her growing family and the pack! She never thought she would be in the position that she was in, but here she was! She grinned as she bounced through the familiar battlefield. Would she find someone interesting to throw paws with today!? She hoped so! She was itching for a good fight! "Medusa"

While she was doing a bit of maintenance on her armor the day before she began trying to think back and remember the last time she had actually used her armor. It had been quite some time since she had made use of it for something beyond just wearing it during patrols and she genuinely struggled to think of one instance when she had actually put the fang caps she made to good use. She wasn't usually someone to seek out a fight, but it was truly a shame that pieces she was so proud of hardly saw the light of day. That was what brought her out to the battlefield and she was curious to see who else might be out here with a similar desire. She wandered the barren, blood-marked field for a while until one of her ravens called down to her, directing her attention toward a figure moving in the distance. Turning her path toward the stranger, she eventually drew close enough to the woman to see her clearly, taking in her markings that looked strikingly similar to a skeleton. "You look like you might be looking for an opponent," she called out once she got a bit closer to the stranger to get her attention, slowing to a stop with a little bit of space between them.

"Avacyn Mendacium"

She was eager. Ready to throw hands with whoever else wanted to. And luckily, she would get that chance! Her attention was drawn to a woman she was pretty sure she hadn't seen before, but something about her reminded her of someone else. The markings on her face, perhaps? She grinned as the stranger approached and spoke, and she nodded with all the enthusiasm of an excited puppy. "Yes! Medusa is looking for one, are you it?" She asked, though it was a rhetorical question of course. After all, one didn't approach another in the battlefield unless it was for a fight or a challenge of some sort.

Fully turning to face her would-be opponent, Medusa quickly adjusted her own gear, her grin never leaving her lips as she squared up. Whether this pretty woman was ready or not...they were gonna have a spar! With a nod, the skeleton Queen started her path forward, a wild cackle slipping from her throat as she sought to close the distance, throwing her left shoulder forward to slam it into her opponent while her head whipped toward the woman's neck, teeth seeking their mark.

The skeleton-marked woman turned to face her with a level of enthusiasm she hadn't been expecting and gave a very interesting... greeting? Could it even be called a greeting? She seemed to speak about herself in the third person, calling herself Medusa. The name was unique enough to trigger a memory, bringing back the news she had been told a while back of the woman who had taken a pack associated with Ashen, renaming it Insomnia. Her ears perked a bit with recognition even though it was events and news that had happened prior to her being Matriarch so she had learned about it second hand from her mother. Regardless, the warnings to treat Insomnia's wolves with caution had still stuck in her memory and that caught her off guard enough that she almost wasn't able to react in time to Medusa suddenly charging forward toward her, clearly not wanting to waste any time in kicking off this fight.

Avacyn would have to process the fact that she had accidentally stumbled upon another alpha in a minute and instead was forced to quickly jump into her defenses just in time for her opponent's shoulder to slam into her chest. The blow was slightly damped by her armor, but she could already feel the low, aching feeling of a bruise forming. Luckily by then she had gotten her bearings so she was able to duck down and avoid the snapping jaws of her opponent, feeling her teeth catch slightly on the fur of her scruff as she pulled away. She quickly lunged forward with an attack of her own, snapping at Medusa's left side near her ribs with her capped fangs while lifting her own left paw with claws extended to try and scratch down the front of Medusa's right foreleg.

She managed to hit her mark on the seemingly distracted girl. "Oops! Better pay attention!" She exclaimed as she collided with the stranger woman. The bones she wore rattled with the impact, but her teeth would miss the intended mark and barely scratch the woman's scruff. Darn! Now that she was up close and personal, however, she could tell this was an alpha, but had no clue which pack she was from. Interesting! Not only that, but she had some neat features that Medusa had never seen before and it intrigued the hell out of her but she didn't have time to ask questions or oggle them better. She snarled when she felt claws cut down her leg, leaving lacerations in their wake. She quickly threw herself up, looking to wrap her forelegs around the girls neck in an attempt to grapple her, and hold on for dear life to try and minimize where her opponent could go. Avacyn's teeth scraped along their mark but not quite grabbing on during Medusa's attempt, but it was irritating enough regardless to draw a little blood and pull some hairs. In a last ditch effort, Medusa bowed her head in toward the back of Avacyn's neck, though mostly she was just looking to try and hold on for dear life to keep her opponents teeth away from her! Even through there was certainly a sense of accomplishment from her claws and teeth drawing blood, she knew the fight was not yet over so she stayed focused on the task at hand. Her opponent was not relenting so neither would she. Medusa was in too close of quarters for Avacyn to avoid the woman's forelegs as she reared up to wrap her forelegs around her neck, pulling a growl from her as she got locked into this grapple as Medusa made it impossible for her to easily put space between them. Avacyn's scruff and neck scrunched up as she tried to wriggle free in vein which might have been her only saving grace as Medusa's teeth found the back of her neck, luckily only latching on to the loose skin of her scruff. It still sent a stabbing pain through her regardless, making her scowl and growl again in response. Unwilling to back down just yet, Avacyn leaned harder into where her chest met up with Medusa's, using it as a kind of leverage point to lift her front paws off of the ground, wanting to plant them on the front of Medusa's shoulder blades with her claws out to try and both shove her away and dig her claws into the other alpha's skin, hoping that some combination of the two would be enough to get her opponent to release her and relent.
