Wylan knew he wasn't allowed outside of the Armada, but his polar bear friend was with him. That counted as being watched, right? He knew that wouldn't fly, so he intended to be as quick as he could. But his friend had caught a strange scent, and shortly after Wylan has caught it too. It smelled like his friend, but different. More like the coats his grandfather had out to dry sometimes.
Curiously led him onwards, and he scrambled for justification as he broke the rules and sneaked out of the woods. The open Plains here just before the wall were fascinating. He could see so far! But surely, that meant he was easy to spot as well? Keeping low, he scrambled quickly towards the wall. His round little polar bear friend struggled to keep up. When he reached the wall, instead of trying to go over it, he found a hole about his level. He held his wings tightly to his body, and struggled through it. The bear had to push his bump a few times before he made it through. When it was Bears turn, the little white creature hopped up, and Wylan grabbed the back of his neck and pulled him through.
They turned around together, and looked up (and up) into the giant form that had come to investigate them. Hey! They were just like his friend! He jumped up in an excited wiggle. “Hi! I'm wylan. Do you wanna be friends?” He asked, spreading out his wings behind him. In response, the bear peeled its teeth out from behind its muzzle in a snarl. The tiny version of bear beside him slunk down into the ground, and startled to growl himself. Wylan looked between the two of them in surprise. “No, it's okay, we can be friends!”

Kaija hadn't been back to the north in awhile, but today was apparently an exception. She was growing used to living amongst the raiders and all that came with it, but at the end of the day, she was still a Jarvela - and the north would always feel like home to her. Returning now, in the mildest season, made this place feel different though. Familiar, but not really what she remembered leaving behind. Oh well. She wasn't sure how long it took her to get this far north - a few days, maybe? - crossing central Boreas and finally making it to the far north. Ahead of her stretched that wall she'd seen so many times, a stark structure breaking up the otherwise quite barren landscape. The smell of a polar bear was more interesting than anything about the terrain, as far as she was concerned. Kaija was keen to steer clear of it - grappling with a bear was something she'd done before and she wasn't necessarily itching to do again. Her tusked head lifted to the sky, catching onto the beast's scent and trying to locate it. Maybe keeping away from it would be an easy feat. Violet gaze fell to the wall as she drew closer, moving along its length and only pausing when something caught her attention. Well, fuck, she thought, feeling mildly exasperated at the sight. A kid was nose-to-nose with a polar bear, or at least that was what it looked like, and as she drew closer she realized the scent was distinctly Armada. Was hard to tell if it was someone Ophie was related to, but she felt an annoying sense of obligation to make sure this kid didn't get torn to shreds. Damn, having feelings really fucking sucked sometimes. It wasn't like she had much of a moral compass but she did care about Ophie, even after everything. She wouldn't hesitate too long before picking up her pace, heading straight for the two of them. And damn, was that.. a tiny little polar bear? Didn't look like it belonged to the bigger one, either, not by how it was cowering like that. "Hey! Shithead! Think fast!" Trying to catch the bear's attention she made to ram right into its hind end, biting down hard, though only momentarily before she reeled back, the bear twisting around to see who had joined the party. Fortunately for her, Kaija didn't have a lot of time to stop and think about obligation and that sort of thing. Nah, she was swiftly moving forward to try to egg on the polar bear and try to distract it. Diving in for a quick attack and then darting backwards, eyes darting from the kid to the polar bear to the teeny tiny polar bear and back again in a frantic cycle. Kaija nearly snorted as Wylan took her lead, insulting the predator in a way only a kid could think to. At least he was spirited, she'd give him that. Her dark lips curled in a snarl as she bore her teeth at the beast, hoping the realization that he was being picked on by two wolves now might be enough for him to back down without a fight. Nothing was ever really that easy though, even if she hoped it might be. The boy lashed out at the bear's leg as it whirled around, seemingly caught between the two targets and slightly unsure which direction he ought to focus. Kaija took advantage of the moment of indecision to strike again, lunging forward hard and aiming to grab the same back leg Wylan had gone for. This time she was seeking to really do some damage - once her attack landed she bore down hard, pressing her body weight into the bite and hoping it'd slow the bear as he stumbled toward Wylan. Her bite landed, and hard. The feeling of teeth sinking into the predator's flesh was rewarding, and a solid shake of her head was rewarded with warm blood beginning to trickle over her tongue. It elicited another low growl from her, adrenaline now pumping through her at full strength. It was hard to see what Wylan and the little bear were doing, given how focused she was on stopping this beast, but out of the corner of her eye she could see some small flashes of wings and small bear paws flinging things at the larger bear in an attempt to stop him. Maybe their pooled efforts were working after all? The two of them couldn't quite do enough damage to take the bear down permanently, and Kaija didn't expect they could, but if they could hurt it enough that it realized retreating was the best option... that was her goal. Kaija had to pause to catch her breath, reeling back from another swipe of the bear's paw as it reeled around. It seemed to be making one last stand, though Kaija moved quick - lunging forward in a daring move and landing a brief bite on the bear's muzzle. It seemed that was enough to deter him. Shoving backwards he made to free himself from the two wolves who were harassing him, limping with each step. Kaija didn't make to follow him necessarily, keeping her ground while remaining threatening with teeth bared. "You okay, kid?" She asked, not turning to check on Wylan quite yet, still focused on the predator's retreat and ensuring he didn't come back for another round of harassment. |
