Auster hunting dogs

Kaizen had bitten off far more than he could chew. As far as pups went he wasn't overly proud or arrogant, but he really had overstepped this time and was now reaping the consequences. During his time in the Oaks he'd noticed the scent of a pack of hunting dogs out in the wilderness, they hadn't tried to venture close enough for one of the adults to deem them worthy of pursuit but... Well, Kaizen was just frustrated they were nearby at all. That they ought to respect Tojo enough to not even be remotely close to his home, they should run so far away that he couldn't even catch a whiff of their scent on the breeze. Only then he'd be happy.
He barked and snarled as the pack encircled him, hackles raised and tail lashing- his warnings fell on deaf ears. They knew he was alone and there were many of them, more than a dozen that he could see at a glance, their dappled pelts blending together as he shifted on the spot, rotating and moving as he did his best to ensure none could sneak up behind him.

Kina
Kina had been cautious about going over to the Oaks ever since her encounter with the coyotes. However, as time went on she began to relax. There were some walnuts in that area that she wanted to gather to try and make ink. She was working her way across the grove when she heard barking and snarling. Kina's first instinct was to bolt for the safety of Tojo but then she caught her brother's scent. Oh no!
Kina shifted course and headed toward the source of the noise. There she saw her brother surrounded by strange looking canines, dogs of some sort. Without a second thought she barreled toward the nearest one, silent as a ghost. Her head was lowered and she slammed the top of her head into the nearest dog, just between the ribcage and hind legs where the organs were least protected. Even though she was small her solid bone structure helped her in delivering a blow that knocked the dog over and caused it to yelp in surprise.

It wasn't really like Seiko to wander too far from home, at least not thus far in her young life, but she'd caught a whiff of Kaizen's scent heading just north of the maze and she was intrigued. There was always a sibling going off and doing something interesting, at least that's what it felt like when Seiko felt left out of things, and she wanted to see what her brother was up to... well, and her sister, apparently. As she drew closer she found Kina's scent as well. Mingled with their smells though was something unfamiliar. The scent of strangers reached her nose as she made her way toward her siblings, and as she got even closer she could hear snarling and growling too. What the heck? Curious and also a little worried, wondering what kind of trouble her siblings were getting into, she picked up the pace. Looks like one of them had picked a fight with some dogs. Not just a few, though, but a whole lot of them. Quickly she tried to take a mental count of how many there were but she lost track as she spotted Kina charging one, knocking it over. There wasn't much time to think, only to act, and Seiko wasn't the type to stand by while her own flesh and blood got into trouble. "Kaizen! Behind you!" She managed to hiss out, noting one of the dogs trying to slink around from behind and sneak up on it. She barely had time to speak before getting caught up in her own fight. A particularly scraggly looking dog had targeted her, snarling as he lunged toward her, no doubt trying to scare her off before striking. Taking Kina's lead she charged him before he was able to do the same, ramming hard into the dog's chest and hoping to knock it over in one fluid motion. |
Note: Seiko is biologically female, but they identify as nonbinary (they/them pronouns).
Their companion - a female tabby cat with antlers, named Herajika - is often hanging around.
