Lone Souls

A soft smile graced Bane's muzzle as he woke up to the scent of fresh fallen snow, his one remaining eye opening gradually as he took in the darkness that surrounded him. A certain calm overcame his sleep addled head for a moment before he brought his paws to the snow blocking the exit to his den and began to dig. Lightheadedness when one woke up to a sealed den was a terrible omen of all the oxygen running out and it wasn't unheard of for a sleeping wolf to never wake in a snow sealed den. Luckily for the twice-banished that the winter skyfall kept tumbling down and remaining loose at the upper crest of the circular entrance. A smack of a paw all it taking to cause a micro avalanche.
A pale, grey flecked head poked out of ground-level and did a full circle surveying of his little camp. Nothing on the ground remained untouched by the snow. Paws shifted in sadness and worry as to how his mate was doing. Were they well fed? Did she get a fair amount of the deer carcasses and or the rabbits? How was the war going? Were they warm? Did his family miss him as much as he did them? He realized he had been speaking the questions... and there had been no answer. Bane set about clearing the snow away from his den with a heavy heart and longing for some company.
