Obscura Intellect Expansion

Scylla had made her wishes to expand her new empire known and, once the new land was decided on, Athena had volunteered to take out a group to discuss the potential aspects of what expanding out there could bring. It is nearing mid-day when she assembles the group who wished to accompany her and, with them in tow, they trek out to Redbud Nook. It isn’t far and the trip is pleasant enough as the promise of Spring can be felt in the winter air. Once the group is far enough into the land, Athena pulls them all to stop and turns around to address them, “Okay, this the land that Obscura is thinking of expanding into. I want everyone to take a look around and tell me what you think some drawbacks might be to expanding out here and what possible solutions you might have for those problems. Also, note the benefits that doing this could bring.” Amber eyes meet each gathered wolf’s gaze as she waits to hear their thoughts. "Athena Nocturna" |

Ciná was still forming his own opinions about their new alpha, but when he was asked to join a group looking into expanding their territory he agreed to it regardless. He wasn't going to keep himself or Tira from a potential benefit just because of his own suspicious nature. Athena led the way to the nearby Redbud Nook and as they stepped into the partial shade of the mostly bare trees, she explained that this was the land Obscura was looking to take. He gave a nod of acknowledgement and then began to look around for answers to the posed questions of what drawbacks and benefits that having this new territory might bring. "Any time you add more land it's going to mean more ground to cover during patrols and more land to secure," he pointed out, peering past some of the trees toward the edge of the forest. "This space is fairly easy to patrol though and not too large so it shouldn't be too much more work for our warriors."

Albion was still surprised at the quick forgiveness that Scylla had given him, and even quicker still the position within the pack she allowed him. He and Cerberus were the highest ranking wolves after their sister. Something that seemed quite appropriate. He was slightly miffed that he wasn’t the one leading their expedition out into Obscura’s new lands but he couldn’t be a master at everything could he?
The Klein prince tried not to look particularly bored as Athena took charge and gave her commands. He withheld a sigh a Cina spoke first. The other man had a point, and Albion wouldn’t argue with him. ”The terrain is easy going and relatively flat as well, and we’ll be able to keep a closer eye on the volcano.” His mother hadn’t even been born when it last erupted, but the event would remain strong in Klein memory for generations to come.

He hadn't been in Scylla's new pack long before plans started to go around about expanding their territory and needing wolves to scout the area. Well, there was no reason not to put himself to work right away. Ironically, the group that formed for the initial fact finding mission were all wolves he was at least mildly familiar with. Of course Albion as his half brother was a familiar face, but he remembered Athena and Ciná as being a couple of his father's old subjects. It was funny how paths always seemed to converge somehow. They walked out to the Redbud Nook and Athena questioned them on their observations about the land, wanting them to focus on the drawbacks, benefits, and solutions for this place. Ciná and Albion both spoke first, bringing up the need to accommodate more patrols and the proximity to the volcano in order to keep an eye on the potentially mountain. "I've been through here in the spring and summer and these trees are absolutely beautiful when they're in bloom," he mentioned, glancing up at the trees that were just beginning to grow fresh buds as they neared the beginning of spring. "This will make for a lovely den site if we chose to expand here, but it would be the most inland portion of the pack's territory so it might see more traffic at the borders than other parts."

Amber eyes turn up to the fire marked man as he speaks and Athena nods in agreement to his assessment. Gaze then moves to Albion next as he adds his thought and, once more, her head dips in agreement while she continues to remain quiet so that the three tall men have time and space to say their piece before she speaks up. Lastly, Morendo offers his insight and her smile brightens as she looks up at the trio. With that, she poses her next series of questions to them, “Those are all good points. Now, what to do think we could do to help with the increase in patrols and the threat of the volcano? Also, if we do use this land for den sights, how would that impact the patrols and what can we expect if the volcano erupts?” Ears perk forward as she waits to hear their thoughts, Athena acting as a sounding boarding while offering them some prompts so that the group can discuss things a little more easily. Morendo came in after Albion, fitting that so many Kleins found their way into Scylla’s care. His attention shifted to his half brother as the man spoke, pale blue eyes watching as he mentioned his travels here in the different seasons. Albion couldn’t disagree with what was said so far, he had no real problem with the lands besides being so close to the active volcano. It had been almost a decade since it had erupted so they weren’t likely to see it happen again, but they would need to have a plan just in case.
As the men quieted Athena spoke up again, she prompted them on their thoughts about the solutions that might be thought about the problems they had stated. ”We will need to have drills, and perhaps send a scout to the summit of the volcano every season or two to gauge the reactivity of its depths.” Albion added.

Athena prompted them further with more specific questions about the issues and considerations they brought up about this potential new expansion for Obscura's lands, wondering how they might handle the extra patrols and the potential threat of the volcano. Albion was quick to suggest drills and a scout that could go to the summit of the volcano periodically to check for activity. He couldn't imagine that the volcano could be that much of a threat that they'd need to check on it so regularly, but crazier things had happened and he supposed being more safe than sorry was a good thing. "Perhaps we could designate someone or maybe a couple of wolves that choose to live out here as the ones to sound the alarm if they notice anything strange happening with the volcano," he suggested. "This land is definitely close, but it's not like we'll be on the mountain itself so as long as someone notices the shaking or what I imagine would be a pretty loud boom in time and alerts the rest of the pack we should be able to avoid the danger pretty easily."

It seemed like everyone was on the right track to working out any possible kinks that might come up from expanding the pack out into another land. Everything from the threat of the nearby volcano, the need of extra patrols and the strain that might cause, and the possibility of their members wanting to live out here in this attractive land had been mentioned and now Athena prompted them with deeper questions about each of those things. Albion and Morendo both focused on the volcano and how they might be more prepared for its potential threat, so he focused on the other stuff. "I think the best way to deal with an increase in patrols is going to be a more regimented patrol schedule and certain fighters assigned to certain stretches of border so we don't risk wasting resources by double patrolling one section or another unnecessarily," he suggested. "There's more fighters available now with so many of the Klein family filtering in so that change shouldn't be as difficult as it might have been before, but we'll need someone to organize it to get started."

Albion is the first to speak up and she nods, agreeing with his idea of scouts and having drills in case of activity. Morendo is next and he adds to the idea by suggesting that they have some wolves be designated to signal if there is volcano activity and again, she nods her approval. Finally, Cináed rounds out the discussion with ideas about patrol schedules and how they now have an increase of fighters so organizing that should be easier. With all that, Athena says, “I agree with all of those points and I have one final question for you all. Do you think this land would be a good place for Obscura to expand to?” A smile is on her lips as she asks and, once they have all given their yah’s or nah’s, she leads the group back toward pack lands and prepares to given Scylla her report. Albion wasn’t the only one worried about the volcano’s activity as both of the other males offered up a possible approach to such a problem should they expand here. Just keeping an active eye upon the feature would give them a heads up. However deadly it could be if the disaster returned. Athena didn’t have any arguments for them, so instead she seemed to round out their meeting with a final question. Would this be a good fit for Obscura?
The Klein prince took a moment to think about the question. Overall it was a peaceful place with a decent amount of resources and good denning spots. ”I believe it is a good choice. There is much prey to be had, the trees are nice shelter for denning sites, and there isn’t much traffic through here.” He explained easily enough.

With all of their discussion and suggestions for how to approach the potential dangers and issues that could arise by claiming this land done, that really just left one question which Athena posed to them next: Was this a good land for Obscura to expand to? Albion answered first, giving his affirmative and listing some of the benefits they had already discussed. He couldn't see a reason why they wouldn't so he nodded in agreement, replying, "I agree. I think this would be a good fit for the pack." He felt like the benefits they could gain from claiming this land outweighed any negatives and it seemed like their party was all in agreement on that fact. He wasn't sure how helpful this thought experiment was for the over all mission of expanding their pack, but if Scylla felt like this would be helpful then he was happy to do it for his sister.

They all seemed to be in agreement and to cap off this trip Athena questioned them over whether or not this land would be a good place for the pack to expand into. Albion agreed, Morendo agreed, and that just left him to cast his vote. He pretended to ponder the question for a moment before giving the group a little grin and answering, "Yes, I agree too. There's plenty of benefits to have from this place and I think it's better than any of the other lands around here that might be the alternative." Having lived around here for a while now he was pretty familiar with the other lands that surrounded Obscura's territory and in his opinion at least this was one of the nicer ones. It seemed like that was that and their exploratory trip was coming to an end so he waited for a moment to see if anyone else had something to say before he gave a little nod of finality and started to turn back toward home. At least he could say he played his part and helped the pack expand their borders.
