Kicking up sand

Living so close to the shore certainly had its advantages–an easy supply of fish, great views, and a long stretch of beach that was perfect for stretching her legs. Maybe that's why she was more interested in staying close to home living here than she ever had been living in Ashen. The landscape around the castle was so much more interesting here and she felt like she could have little adventures right outside their backyard rather than the long distances she'd wander off too back then. Or maybe it was just a part of her getting older... Or maybe it was the fact that The Hallows had so many pretty girls to hold her attention. Who knew?
It was pretty early when she made her way down from the castle to the near by shore. She didn't come for a run every morning, but she did feel like building up more stamina was going to help her with all of the other training she was doing so she tried to make it a pretty regular part of her routine. When she came to the beach this early she usually had it all to herself, but today it seemed like she wasn't the only one making use of the long stretch of sand. Well, she certainly couldn't pass up an opportunity to turn her morning run into something more fun, right? She walked over to the very leggy... wolf? with a grin, saying, "Hey, you look like you'd be good in a race. What do you say?" She pointed into the distance toward a tree that stuck out a bit from the rest along the tree line. "First one to that tree wins."

Jynn was enjoying her time in Auster soaking up the summer. Soon autumn would arrive and bring the rainy season but thankfully the winters of far southern Auster were mild and tolerable. For nor though she wandered along the beach at the Shimmering Shore. The morning was lovely, if warm. There was barely a breeze and the sun was just starting to shimmer off the rolling waves. She was minding her own business when she spied another woman out on the sands. The woman called out to her and challenged her to a race, immediately causing her ears to perk up and a grin to mark her face. "A race you say? My dear, I would love to! When do we start?" She bounded over to the other woman, arranging herself so that her shoulder was lined up with the others. Her limbs taut and ready to go.

Challenging a stranger to a race was super random and she wouldn't have been at all surprised if the woman gawked at her and brushed her off, but luckily she seemed just as game as she was for the spontaneous morning run. She immediately agreed and bounded over to join her, lining up at her shoulder at the imaginary starting line. The maned wolf questioned when they would start and Rebel hunkered down with her legs coiled and ready to spring as she said, "How... about... now!" She took off with long strides, kicking up sand behind her. She quickly realized that putting so much power behind her initial steps only made her lose traction on the slippery top layer of sand, but she recovered quickly and regained her balance. She tried to glance over at her opponent occasionally to see how she was comparing to the leggy woman, but she didn't want to loose too much focus on her own efforts so she mostly kept her gaze trained on the tree that would be their finish line.

Jynn spread her toes, claws digging at the earth and she readied herself. The young woman spoke and the moment she said the word now Jynn launched herself forward. She reached out with her limbs as far as she could, imagining that she was pulling the land toward herself to make the most of each stride. Still the speed of the young woman was impressive. This was going to be a tricky race, not only because of the skill of her opponent but because of the difficulty of the terrain. Jynn had slender, narrow paws that sank into the softer mounds of sand. Noting the issue she tried to move closer to the water where the sand would be more packed.

With her paws hitting the sand and pushing herself forward, she focused on her grip on the shifting sand. Her larger paws certainly helped keep her from sinking into the sand, but she could feel herself lagging behind her opponent with her lighter, slimmer build and lengthy legs. She went on plenty of runs to keep herself in shape, but they were usually slower, more marathon like runs than full out sprints like this so going all out was quickly tiring. Still, the finish line was so close and she was so determined to win that she pushed harder right at the end, sand getting kicked up in a spray behind her in her mad dash to the end.
