Blasted cat... the dark maned lion had been just out of reach for some time. Every time that she thought she was close, it raced ahead again. Why was a mare following a lion, you ask? Because the big bastard had come to the Knoll and had eaten the bodies of the fallen horses from the coup. A lion that got the taste of horse flesh... well, it wasn't something that Asa wanted to have around.

Obsidian hooves sank into the red sand between the tall, bleeding trees. She walked the same trail as the cat, her own prints erasing the wide pawprints. Just when she thought that she'd have to run again, fiery eyes settled upon a tawny form sprawled in the shade of one tall tree. Perfect.

Wasting no time, the monochromatic mare raced forward, a war cry pulling from her throat as she made to trample the lion. It leaped out of the way with a snarl, turning quickly to try and swipe at her. Asa lashed back with hind hooves, clipping the swiping paw. The fight was on.

One of the kids at Polaris said the beast went this way a day ago. Eltrys had made acquaintances with a large cat before, from the description it wasn't that one. This one was eager to prey upon the kids at the edge of the territory. He was going to teach it a lesson. Don't fuck with those under his protection.

The trail had led to a horse herd then back to the grove here. He wasn't going to mess with a herd anytime soon. Not those ones at least.

He squinted at the tawny creature lounging under a tree. Was this the one? He was licking its paws and flicking its tail. From the description yes, this was the one.

A scent on the wind of a single horse brushed past his nose a half moment before the equine screamed and made to trample the beast. Formiddible prongs like a buck sat on the horse's head.

Eltrys launched himself forward to take the blind side of the feline. Head butting it toward the horse's sharp hooves. Then aiming to latch on the cat's fleshy thigh and hold it still. Instead, it twirled and caused him to lose his grip on it.
