goetia!
Sonnet was beginning to find out that she enjoyed hunting. Scurrying after animals that were far faster than herself was more enjoyable than skirmishing with her much larger siblings. She had also found that her brother, Gooey (as she fondly called him), also enjoyed hunting! And learning about plants! Which she also enjoyed. It was nice having someone to tag along with her as she tried to stick her nose in far too many places than it ever belonged.
Today was one of those days. Morning rain showers had subsided just enough in the afternoon for the mothers to be convinced that she and Goetia could go out to the Orchard for some exploration. Toddling along with her larger brother, Sonnet enjoys the quiet lull of the trees as they draw closer. Her eyes soon land on a patch of dandelions that are being munched on by a pair of rabbits. Her tail lifts over her back, wagging excitedly as she nudges Gooey off to the side behind a tree.
"Let's hunt those rabbits!" She whispers as quietly as she can, eagerness in her orange eyes as she looks up at him with a smile. "Think we can chase them or try to surprise them?" Her head tilts, waiting curiously to see what he thought of the plan.

a storm in the rocky mountains; A. Bierstadt
Following his sisters around was becoming one of his go-to solutions to boredom. His brothers seemed all too keen to roughhouse, which was fine for a little while. But he enjoyed bothering Sonnet the most so far, since she didn't seem to take any of his quiet stalking as a nuisance. So he trailed a pace or two behind her, his two toned eyes flicking from one thing to the next. The trees in the orchard were so pretty, all kind of colourful flowers growing from their branches and perfuming the air with the heady aroma that he already associated with spring and comfort and home. He bumped Sonnet a little as she came to a halt, and entirely fell in line as she gingerly negotiated them both behind a tree. Finally, he caught sight of what she was looking at. A group of rabbits happily chomping on a patch of dandelions, their little mouths stained yellow by the petals. The suggestion to hunt them was a welcome one, and he blinked owlishly at his sister for a moment while he thought the whole thing over. How were they going to hunt them? The little creatures were certainly plump and stupid, full of spring flowers and freshly sprouted greens. Even still... "Surprise attack." he murmured, eyes flicking over to the fat little rabbits to make sure they were still there. "We aren't fast enough to chase them." it was not an insult, but a simple fact. Their little legs were still too awkward and pudgy to give them the kind of speed needed to chase down a rabbit, which was very fast. Meeting her golden eyes, his little nub of a tail wagged with excitement despite his stern expression and clipped words. "If you go around, they might not notice you- you're smaller than me. If you wait on the other side, I can scare them towards you and you can catch them." though his words came out very matter-of-fact and harsh, he tipped his head to the side in a way that made it look more like a suggestion than a demand. |
Sonnet listens intently, her eyes only for her brother and his decision in that moment. She trusted him to know the best plan of action and as soon as he spoke the words, her tail began to thump behind her. Quickly, she twists around, grabbing it between her puppy teeth, freezing in hope that the rabbits hadn't been disturbed by her excited. Her dang tail was always getting in the way of things!
Once she gets her tail calm, she refocuses back on Gooey. Surprise attack. Sneak around to the other side. Be careful. Wait for Gooey. Sonnet goes over the instructions in her mind as she gives him a confirming nod. "Got it!" She squeaks quietly, her lips pulling up into an excited smile as she begins to slowly back away from him.
Turning on her heels, Sonnet lowers herself to the ground to try and hide among the taller grasses. While the goats and sheep were allowed to graze here, they tended to leave some thicker areas closer to the trees where they didn't want their heads being thwacked by low hanging branches. Utilizing this advantage, Sonnet crawls on her belly and elbows to the far side of the rabbits. She takes her time, pausing every time they lift their heads to stare suspiciously as their surroundings. It wouldn't do to get caught so soon!
Finally, Sonnet finds herself a good hiding spot across from her brother. Peering at him from over the grass, she does her best to hide from the fat and full rabbits as she awaits his next move.
