-set at least a few days into the Blight-

Wylan was idling about the Treehouse. There wasn’t an awful lot he could do at the moment, and he felt like the whole pack was holding its breath. Where would all this lead? He was worried of course about the people he loved. He was sitting in his room when the treehouse started to creak. He tilted his head to the side at the strange noises the wood was making. Was something wrong with the treehouse?

He started to get up, taking a few steps towards his door, when suddenly the entire world seemed to move. Sliding, slipping. The branches the treehouse was built into made an awful snap, and he let out a shocked cry as tumbled what had once been a wall. Falling, falling! He flared his wings in fright, smacking them against the sides of the walls as he went down. Then there was an almighty jolt, and his vision went black.

The plague that seemed to settle over half the Armada was a troubling circumstance indeed. Marina had tried her best to mask her worry around others, but in the solitude and quiet of the treehouse, it was impossible to keep from feeling like the whole pack was holding its breath, just waiting for the other shoe to drop. The healer did her best to ward off the blight by burning sage and lavender in the treehouse, cleansing the befouled air as best she could to try and keep their home safe from the growing infection.

Wandering through the treehouse with fresh sage to replenish the ashes in the incense plates, Marina was going idly through her routines when a soft creaking and groaning underfoot caught the fae by surprise. Her brow furrowed, lilac eyes staring down at the floorboards, studying them as if she could see through them to the boughs holding the house up. Marina took another experimental step, listening to the groaning of the wood beneath her weight… then another… Creeeeeak… That didn’t sound good.

Glancing around the treehouse to try and find Wylan, Marina called out, "Wylan? I think something’s wro-" SNAP! The board beneath her forepaw suddenly cracked and Marina tumbled forward. Then there was a cacophony of snapping and breaking wood, and then gravity kicked in. Marina didn’t even get a chance to scream before she was free falling as the treehouse collapsed around them. The fall lasted only seconds, but felt like ages to her. When Marina finally hit the ground, she felt the earth knock the air from her lungs and the debris of the treehouse coming down on top of her. A sharp pain lanced through her hind leg. Marina yelped and braced herself against the falling debris.

Moments later, the calamity was over. Shifting underneath the warped and broken wood, Marina pushed the remnants of the treehouse off her body and instinctively began to triage herself. She saw the jagged piece of wood sticking out of her thigh before she really felt it, seeing her own blood coating the sharp end and dripping down her leg. Marina gasped for breath, each inhale aching like she'd been punched in the chest. Adrenaline coursed through her veins with each beat of her pounding heart, the chemical allowing her to overcome the pain and drag herself to her paws. She didn't dare try to remove the wood impaling her leg just yet. Opening the wound could cause her to bleed out if she didn't have the necessary supplies immediately at hand.

"Wy-lan..." Marina called out through gritted teeth, her voice barely above a pained groan. Wylan had been in the treehouse with her. She had to find him. Hobbling through the wreckage, the Songbird sniffed about until she found the great lump of wolf half buried under the rubble. Shit! No time was wasted as Marina limped over to the unconscious Wylan, pushing the debris off of his face and checking him for any obvious damage. "Wylan...! Wake up...!" She jostled his head and lightly smacked his cheeks, hoping to stir the incapacitated wolf. There was no way in hell she'd be able to move him if he was out cold. They'd be well and truly fucked out here on their own in this state.

-set at least a few days into the Blight-

Pain behind his eyes, everything was too bright against his closed lids. The world still felt as if it was moving. Nauseatingly so. His entire body ached as he lay where he had landed. He didn’t know how much wood or tree was over him, but breathing felt difficult. Winded from the fall, or too much weight on his body? Tears leaked free from the corner of his eyes. Tears of pain. He couldn’t move his wings. Pinned down, or broken? He had too much pain across his body to fully understand what he was feeling.

His treehouse was broken. He’d started something here. Gathering friends above his childhood home. One by one, his friends, his brother, had left. Now the treehouse itself… gone. As gone as his mother. So much pain. Physical, emotional. He couldn’t breathe.

Someone was smacking him. He didn’t remember blacking out, but one moment nothing. The next, a wolf before him. He blinked, opening his eyes. Openly, silently weeping. His breaths were short gasps. “Can’t move my wings.” He whispered. He was afraid, so afraid. What if he looked, and they were no longer there?

The giant brute began to stir to her less than gentle rousing and soon his eyes opened, tears streaming down his cheeks. Of pain, or of loss for his treehouse? Marina could not tell. But they didn't have the luxury of lying around mourning. They had to get up and get aid lest they perish out in the blighted woods. His breathing was shallow, but a quick triage didn't reveal any obvious wounds to his torso or chest. Bruised and battered probably—painful, but nothing severe. Wylan mentioned he couldn't move his wings and Marina turned her attention to his back, pushing and pushing with all her might to move the debris off of him. When she finally revealed his wings, she grimaced at the sight. They were bent in unnatural ways, clearly broken and bloodied, but thankfully still attached to him. Marina knew nothing of avian anatomy, so healing his wings would be well beyond her skills.

"They're still on you, big guy," she reported to him with a sigh of relief. Broken could be fixed. Amputated could not. After pushing some more broken planks off of him to free his body, Marina's strength in her injured leg finally gave out. With a yelp of pain and surprise she collapsed under her own weight, hitting the ground with a thud. Teeth clenched and ground together as she grimaced against the pain. Her whole leg felt like it was on fire, but removing the piece of wood impaling her thigh would have been a death sentence. Fuck, they had to get some help. "Gods dammit! Can you get up, Wylan? Are your legs okay?" If both of them were immobile, then she might as well start looking for some wolfsbane to end it all now.

Wylan was so busy feeling sorry for himself that he didn't realise Marina was injured until she stumbled. He'd been mourning his treehouse, worrying about his wings. Worrying about his mothers home thay had been under the tree. Trying to think about anything but his pain as Marina unburied his back.

And then she stumbled.

He gasped, shooting forward to catch her. At least, he had planned to. Instead he yelped when he put weight on his left foreleg and it gave out. Broken. The motions jostled his wings, and pain exploded all around him.

But Marina was asking him to get up. He wrestles his way to his paws again. Avoiding the broken one this time. He finally looked properly at his friend. “Crap.” The gentle wolf said, seeing her leg.
