The pink-latte hue of her coat would shine in the sunlight as she moved cautiously through Fossil Ridge, her paws crunching the loose scree beneath her. The sunlight filtered through the clouds, casting long shadows across the ridges and exposing the ancient bones jutting from the earth. Even her owls were fascinated by them as they surveyed the land from high above. The eerie quiet of this place made her fur prickle with unease. She'd heard stories of the bones here, of their size and the beasts they once belonged to, but nothing prepared her for what was to be lurking unbeknownst to her in the shadows.
As she crept closer to a large ribcage half-buried in the soil, a sudden tremor ran through the ground. The earth beneath her paws shifted and Ellara's instincts kicked in too late. From behind a collapsed ridge, a massive shape burst forth - a hulking, clawed creature that had remained hidden among the bones. Its body was covered in thick, bumpy scales, and it moved with surprising speed despite its bulky sway.
A massive Komodo Dragon, larger than any wolf Ellara had faced so far, lunged at her with jaws agape, razor-sharp teeth glinting in the sun. Ellara barely had time to leap back, its lethal bite snapping just inches from her flank. She growled, her heart pounding, and braced herself as the beast circled, preparing for the fight of her life.

Raumr ventured away from the ladies that day for a bit of explorative fun. Allowing them time to bond and get to know each other was important without his presence there. Females would always need their female time together, that much he understood. So here he was, prowling the sloping hills covered in sparse grass and massive bones. At first, he had thought they were elephant bones because it was by far the only creature he knew to be so large or perhaps even a whale, but these seemed to envelope even that of those large beasts.
His interest is pulled toward a skull when the ground begins to slightly tremble beneath him. With his calm peace broken by the sound of a scrabble, his eyes scan the surrounding land. He doesn't notice it at first until the form of a wolf reels backward into his view. A gasp leaves him as the sight of a very, very large komodo dragon propelling itself toward the wolf leaves his own heart racing and adrenaline surging. There was no way the canine would be able to fight this reptile on her own!
Without a second thought, Raumr surges forward toward the duo. He releases a fierce roar toward the clawed reptile to distract its attention toward him instead of her. Once the dragon is facing him, hissing loudly and flashing its tongue at him, Raumr lowers himself and begins to circle the beast. "This thing will be hard to take down," he calls out to the wolf, eyes not daring to glance away from her for fear the reptile will use it as an opening. Instead, he searches for the best place to attack. Keeping it focused on him, he tries to pinpoint where its weak spot would be.

Her breath came in ragged gasps as the Komodo dragon hissed at Raumr, its attention momentarily diverted. She took the opportunity to scan the beast's massive body, searching for a weakness. The scales on its back and sides were thick and impenetrable, but as it circled Raumr, she caught sight of its underbelly - a softer, paler stretch of flesh between its powerful legs.
"Underneath!" she barked, eyes locking on Raumr's for a brief moment. Without wasting time, she darted to the side, her heart pounding as she made her move. The dragon lunged at Raumr, jaws snapping, and Ellara took the opening. With a fierce growl, she sprang forward, slashing her claws at the creatures lower side, it's more vulnerable belly. Blood sprayed, and the dragon bellowed in pain, rearing back on its hind legs. Ellara leaped away quickly, narrowly avoiding the deadly swipe of it's claws as it wheeled around toward her.

The wolf's shout of 'underneath' startled the dragon, causing it to lunge toward him in a fury that Raumr had never seen before. He leaps back out of the way, barely missing the sharp swipe of claws as the wolf dives in for her own attack. His eyes watch the scene as the wolf attacks the tender underbelly of the reptile. A bellow of righteous pain emits from the dragon and as it rears up onto its hind legs, striking at the air, Raumr knows this is his chance to do some damage.
Kicking off the ground in a low lunge toward the reptile, Raumr reaches out to grab around the reptile's midsection. His claws dig into the dragon's sides as his teeth bite and tear at its belly. Enraged, the dragon slams back down on all fours, but Raumr is prepared. Twisting his body, he attempts to throw the dragon off balance so that they go rolling into the grass. He feels the sharp slice of claws across his back, but it is nothing in that moment. All he cared for was saving the wolf and taking down the monster.

The rosewood fae saw her moment as Raumr's powerful lunge sent the Komodo dragon staggering, its balance precarious. The beast's furious movements exposed its side, and Ellara didn't hesitate. Her muscles tensed as she launched herself at the creature, aiming for the same vulnerable spot she had struck before.
With a snarl, she sank her teeth into the dragon's soft underbelly, twisting her head to tear at the flesh and aimed pull some back with her. The dragon roared in agony, thrashing wildly this time, but Ellara held on with determination, her claws raking into it's side as she tried to push off the dragon for more strength in her bite. Blood splattered across the grass as the dragon bucked and twisted, trying to throw her off, but she refused to relent.. staying just out of reach of his swinging head. Finally, the dragon got too close for comfort and Ellara was forced to let go, but the pool of blood beneath the reptile told her that she had done enough damage. It would be a waiting game now.

In the commotion of attempting to spin the dragon, Raumr is flung from the beast's midsection. Moving through the air for a few feet before he hits the ground with a thud, it takes him a moment to recover. Looking up through a bleary, blood-stained gaze, he sees the wolf attacking the komodo dragon with relentless fury. Impressed, Raumr wastes no time going in to help finish off their opponent.
Pushing up onto his paws, he uses the momentum to jump toward the reptile. Though the reptile is larger, Raumr still has quite a bit of weight to him. Scrambling on top of the scaly beast, he pushes down on the weakened shoulders until the reptile is staggering forward. Blood coats the grass around them and it isn't long until the creature is falling to the ground.
Quickly, Raumr jumps off and rolls the reptile over. Using his sharp claws, he dispatches the komodo dragon so that it doesn't suffer any longer.
