Come down, come down sweet reverence

Normally Jynn didn't consider Dragon's Blood Grove as a prime hunting area. It was just a transitional space she crossed to get to the Oaks. Today she'd planned to go and and scout out the oaks however half way across the grove she spied curious hoof prints in the sand. Dipping her head she sniffed at the hoof prints. These seemed really fresh though she couldn't identify what kind of creature the hoof prints belonged to. Well, only one way to find out.

Setting off across the arid landscape she followed the prints, slowing and ducking behind one of the trees as she spied pale gray shapes ahead. The had black markings on the legs and great black horns. Oh, oh, oh! These had to be oryx! She'd heard about these but had never seen one in real life.

Was it annoying that Nami kept following Jynn all around? She really hoped not! It was hard not to want to spend time with her though, given she was one of Nami's first real friends since leaving home so long ago - how had it already been so many years? There weren't many activities she found as enjoyable as a good hunt or fishing trip alongside a friend, and so she found herself naturally drawn to the maned wolf, especially when her scent was mingled with that of a prey animal. Something different today, too!

This was a strange area too, not somewhere she went all the often. The strange trees that towered around her made her feel a little uneasy, but she focused on trailing after Jynn instead. Once she was within view she slowed, a goofy grin splitting her features wide open. She registered not long after that Jynn was trailing after something, a strange prey animal she'd never seen. A challenge, maybe? Interested in helping, she ducked behind the tree as well, leaning to nudge her friend in form of a greeting. "Want some help?"

Jynn could feel her mouth starting to water as she wondered what the pretty antelope actually tasted like. She assumed they'd hunt these like any other typical prey species. Run them down to find weakness though as she watched she noticed one seemed to be limping. There was a wound on it's left hind leg. Excellent! It was then she noted the approach of her friend Nami and she greeted the woman with a big grin, excited to share her friends company in another hunt. It was so much fun. "Yes, absolutely! There's a wounded oryx there on the west side of the herd. I figure let's try to get close and then get them running. We can take it down from there."

With that Jynn slipped down into a low crouch as she started stalking, her orangish pelt helping her to blend in with the more desert like conditions of the grove. As she got closer the oryx started to become more restless. More would look up from their grazing, nostrils flaring and ears twitching. The time was now. She sprang in a great leap toward the oryx. Immediately the herd started to scatter. Jynn focused in on the wounded one which was swiftly falling behind.

They looked just a little bit like deer, though were much stockier. Nami too found herself wondering what they might taste like, and how hard they'd be to bring down. Hopefully a job the two of them could tackle without needing to hope another showed up to aid them. She danced lightly on her paws where she crouched down, shifting her attention to the small herd ahead of them. She noted the injured one Jynn pointed out, noticing how it limped slightly on one of its legs. The perfect target! She nodded easy agreement, eager to get started. "You got it," she verbally agreed to the plan. Hopefully it proved an easy enough hunt.

Mirroring Jynn's crouch, Nami slunk down low to the ground and crept forward, first moving behind her and then shifting position so she was beside her. They weren't able to get much closer before the oryx started to stir, clearly noticing their presence. Their unease didn't spill over until they crept even closer and Jynn sprung forward. Nami wasted no time in following after her, kicking off hard with her limber legs and moved to follow the limping prey. It fell out of line with the rest as they begin to panic and scatter, and soon they were close on its heels.

Jynn's long limbs ate up the distance between her and the oryx but her smaller paws started to sink in the sandier areas. She kicked hard seeking to launch herself forward in a few great leaps to clear the softer terrain, breathing a sigh of relief as her claws his hard ground. With her traction restored she started to gain on the oryx. Her teeth lanced forward, snagging the injured left hind leg in her jaws. The oryx bleated at the pain and stumbled. Jynn held on tight. Unable to kick out without risking its balance the oryx threw its head back toward her, trying to get her with its horns. Jynn shifted to keep herself out of the way, hoping Nami could get a good shot at their prey.

Though fishing was definitely her favorite method of hunting - and one of her favorite things to do in general - switching things up a little bit was never a bad thing. Making sure her skills were still sharp in other facets was a worthwhile endeavor, as far as she was concerned, and spending time with a friend was even more important to her.

Moving as quickly as possible over the sandy terrain, running down the oryx with Jynn not far off from her. She made the first leap forward to take down the beast, grabbing onto one of its back legs and causing it to slow. It twisted around to try to swing its head toward her, and Nami dove quickly to the prey animal's other side, leaping forward and aiming her parted jaws for its neck.

Her attack succeeded, at least she thought, teeth sinking into flesh as it let out a cry of pain. It kicked and flailed, no doubt trying to untangle Jynn from its leg. At one point it jerked its head hard and Nami feared she'd be sent flying, but she held on for dear life as she was rewarded with warm blood trickling down her tongue.

Jynn's fangs ripped through flesh as the oryx struggled, blood pooling in her mouth and running down her chin. She could feel the muscles in her neck straining with every movement of their prey. From the corner of her eye she could see Nami seize hold of its neck. Yes! The oryx bleated and struggled harder but now with two wolves holding onto it the oryx failed to get running. Moment by moment it's energy drained and as blood seeped from the wound on its neck life slowly left the creature. It fell to its knees, twisting its head in a last ditch effort before it collapsed entirely.

Jynn waited a few more moments before she felt sure it was dead. Releasing her hold on its leg she looked to catch Nami's eye with a grin on her face. "Phew! That was a good run."
