The boy looked up at the stone structure before him with more than a little wonder. It was a moonless night and he had crept out to go stargazing, but it was the first time he had actually considered just what this perfect little viewing platform might have been in another time, with different residents making use of it.

He scrambled over the tumbled stones, nails scraping dully in the darkness, violet eyes already well adjusted to the low light in preparation of tonight's endeavours. He kicked aside some sort of vine that crept up over one wall and down across the pathway to make a clear spot to flop down, neck craning backwards to take in the twinkling lights above. He was sure they held some secret, and if he looked on for long enough, maybe they would whisper their truth to him?

"Speech"

Maelstrom, like his brother, preferred the dark of night. Stars glittered over his head, leading the way away from pack lands to a place he had been eyeing for awhile. Like a good boy, he had tried his best to follow the rules and not leave, but after his tumble into the marble wash, he had gotten a taste of freedom. The crumbling stone wall that lingered not far from the sound or the pines had been all too inviting. Plus, with Pyx already toddling off to that exact location, it gave Maelstrom good reason to follow.

The quiet of the night fell over him as he listened to his brother's paws crunch against the hard dirt and rocks. Moss often squished beneath his own paws, muffling the sound as he hung back a few paces. He didn't want to get found by his brother... just yet. It was fun tracking other wolves and gave him good practice for hunts. Keeping his nose lose to the ground and purple eyes ahead of him, he follows Pyx toward the stone structure that seems to go on for miles and miles.

As they approach the wall, Mael is quick to swing around a wide berth, his paws scrabbling over the rocks to carry him over a low spot. Ducking down quickly so Pyx wouldn't notice him, he hides a laugh behind a paw. Waiting a moment or so, he peers over the old stone that almost disintegrates at his touch. It seemed his brother was interested in the stars tonight...

"Maelstrom"

His pink tipped ear flicked at the sound of scrambling stone. His nose twitched in response, but whoever it was remained downwind, and there was little more to do for it. Besides, a brilliant light streaked overhead and his heart caught in his throat, head turning skywards once more to trace its blazing trail.

Turning further from home, Pyx chose a constellation to use as his guide and made his way westward. It was far from easy going, with stones crumbling under-paw and sections of the structure in ruin. As he came to the first such break, he had to leap to a pillar that was far further from the ground than he was willing to fall, and then over to the continued walkway on the other side.

Insidious ivy coated the path in its entirety, turning this section into a hilly green mass that would provide some good cover if he wanted to try and catch out his stalker, but the boy was distracted by another shooting star. This one seemed larger... burned brighter. Picking up the pace, he took care to place his paws, lest he tumble right off the wall.
