Magnetism
AW
During her travels, Nimue had witnessed her fair share of odd occurrences- but a moonless and starless night, with the entire continent shrouded in an oppressive cloak that reeked of danger? That was a first. The desire to find shelter for the night was instinctive, and peaked when the tremors started. They grew more violent with each passing hour, the ground seeming to convulse beneath her paws, like a living, writhing creature in agony. But her sanctuary kept her safe until the morning, which revealed perhaps the oddest event thus far.
A vibrant, ominous red glow was cast across the sky, spreading as far as she could see. A foreign territory appeared in the West, and Nimue felt herself gravitating towards the terrain, as if some celestial, magnetic tug was pulling her. Tall stone spikes, taller than any tree she’d seen, extended into the crimson sky, their surfaces weathered by years of sun exposure. Years. But she’d never seen this place before. How was that possible?
The brute growled towards the skies that were painted in reds. He was protective over those he cared about as he made his way towards this unknown horizon. Twin peaks lace back upon the thick fur along the back of his skull, they laid hidden as if he didn't have no ears. It smelt of danger as he continued on the path to figure what in the hell was happening. Sure he was new to Boreas, but he known some of the area. A low growl once more rumbled up out of his throat.
Spikes laid in all directions, as breath was stolen. Vaynes heart sank as well as his stomach. He took notice to a pair of wolves whom appeared to be on the small side. Ears twisting forwards as listening to one that appeared to be a yearling, possibly under a year. Icey blue pools look towards the female then back to the pup.
"I will say it does not feel right. But it doesn't appear to be a fire young one." His voice gruff but gentle to the youngster. "A fire would eat everything around us. Those that we love and care about also." Vayne wasn't one to really talk, as he wandered closer to them, staying back a few feet to not startle them.
"I'd say we all must be careful around these spikes." He stepped infront of the two of them. Looking up towards the sky, the woman however smelt of a thick forest, a scent he could remember. Bringing him back to the earth under him. "Does your family know you wandered off youngster? Forgive me you two, names Vayne Morningstar. I mean no danger. I am curious as everyone is to how the hell these showed up out of no where. And I want to protect my family and loved ones."
This place had a sense of magnetism, it seemed- wolves from all over were trickling into the territory, drawn by curiosity, or perhaps, fear of the unknown. Nimue could smell their scents on the breeze, but so far, no one made an appearance. The musky smell of pack wolves and loners alike. She wasn’t going to make an effort to seek any of them out, but if she came across someone… perhaps they could have a little fun.
Weaving through the spires, Nimue was conducting an assessment of the domain. Weathered spikes, some with horrified faces etched into them. Varied areas of loose and compact soil. A persistent, blood-red sky. It was all rather ominous, but Nimue found it exhilarating. Was it an omen, she wondered? Were they meant to pay homage to the universe? So many questions- so many possibilities.
Coming around the base of a spire, the nymph catches sight of another wolf- a young male, hardly larger than herself, and freshly grown out of pup hood. Tsk. Stopping, Nimue lowers her head and eyes him closely, the tip of her tail twitching in a feline manner. “Child.” She hums, her tone of voice sickly sweet, and yet, there is a sense of unpredictability. An aura of danger. “If you believe this is a celestial occurrence- that we are insects, drawn to this region to be collected - perhaps you will sacrifice yourself to the divinities?” The corners of her lips curled up into a sly, suggestive smirk, one that gave insight into the impurities running through her mind. Nimue wasn’t the type to harm a child out of cold blood- but if his observation were true, and the universe demanded sacrificial blood, in exchange for their world's safety, she’d do it. Why else would the sky be stained r e d?
She goes to take a step toward the boy, but the appearance of another wolf stops her. This time, it’s a larger male, one closer in age to herself. And quite handsome if she had to admit it. He makes an observation, and Nimue watches him with a stoic expression- though her eyes are rolling across his spotted pelt, admiring the musculature of his frame, and how his fur seemed to fit snugly in all the right places.
She flashed him a small smirk- one that is mischievous and enigmatic- an invitation wrapped in intrigued. “Mmm, Vayne Morningstar.” She purrs, ignoring his statement about family and protecting loved ones. Because, to Nimue, that was a bunch of bullshit- if he cared for his family, he would have stayed behind to protect them, no? He was a victim of curiosity, just as she and the young pup were. And Nimue would feed on it.
“You’re quite the gentleman, aren’t you.” There’s a hint of sarcasm in her voice, but the compliment seems rather genuine. But of course, it's a ruse. “But don’t dismiss the ‘youngsters’ observation.” She uses his verbiage against him. “Perhaps he is right- we have been drawn here by some divine force- for collection.” Her lips peel back, revealing rows of needle-sharp teeth. “The blood-red sky- it must be an omen. And we must pay homage to its demands, no?” She was looking for any reason to engage with the larger male- the raw, restless energy radiating from her made that clear- as her hunger for chaos crackled in the air.
She doesn’t wait for his response- Nimue sprints forward, shoving her way past Button, to launch herself at Vayne. She’s attempting to grab onto his right shoulder, where it conjoins with the base of his throat. The skin is thinner there, and the nymph's goal is to puncture down to the vasculature, to spill blood onto the thirsty earth.
