It had been quite some time since he had been in the North. Ansem had been having difficulties with his disabilities ever since the flood, and had strongly insisted on seeking help outside of the Armada for fear of seeming weak in the eyes of the pack. Despite Grim's protests of leaving without a word, he respected the younger wolf's need for the privacy and wanting to avoid telling his family. After Basilisk took over, Ansem was afraid the Warlord would punish him as he had done some of the others after Sirius left. Against his better judgment, Grim decided to leave with the young male on his journey to heal...acting as his guardian, and now it was time to return home. Ansem had gone on ahead, though Grimoire hung back a bit. After the skies had turned Red and there seemed to be a disturbance in the lands, it seemed even the North wasn't safe. As he made his way across the territory where the frozen ship remained stuck, he noticed animals acting strangely...the ground appeared to be bloodied. Random holes and shallow trenches dug out. The bellows of animals in the distance. One familiar to his ears. Golden gaze spotted a caribou frantically raking its antlers against the rusted stern of the ship, its face bloodied, legs raw as it seemed to be caught up in some sort of frenzy that was completely out of character for such a creature. What was it doing? The steel of the ship was visibly scarred from the caribou's incessant and relentless rubbing from its antlers. Concerned, he couldn't pass up the opportunity to hunt it...but he couldn't take it on alone. Much less with its odd behavior. |

Havoc's wandering paws hadn't ceased when she'd joined Insomnia for Medusa, though she rather thought, when she thought about it at all, that she probably should have been a better pack member and done pack... things... instead of spending her time chasing whims. Oh well. Those wandering paws had brought her to the north to witness this weird ass caribou doing weird ass things, though, so she thought that probably evened things out. Or, well, maybe not to Insomnia, but it sure was interesting enough to her to be worth it. There was another wolf there observing it already, and Havoc had no qualms about it as she bounded right up to his side, this complete stranger, and threw herself down on the ground on her belly to watch. "Fucking weird, isn't it?" she observed casually, cheerfully, as a greeting. "Wanna go poke at it?"

He'd gone to explore the spires, ensure the safety of his pack members, when news broke out of strangely behaving prey. This unsettled Kuroo enough that he too ventured north to go see what it was all about. Kuroo couldn't stop wondering if all of this was connected. What would Hattori think? He cursed himself for not having a bird companion to utilize for communication.
Slowly, he trek farther north until the grey metal of a large abandoned ship was seen not far off. Lingering near it, a herd of caribou were doing odd things. His brow furrows, concern drawing over his features as he watches them a moment before noticing the pair of wolves also doing the same. Perhaps they'd want some help. Keeping his body language relaxed, though understandably tense in such weird times, he approached with his tail wagging. "I could help poke at it," Kuroo offers with a smile, his own tone cheerful, but hesitant.

Kuroki couldn't say any of this settled well with him, the red skies, tremors and now animals were acting weird as shit. Like he wasn't quaking in his boots, since last year he did beat the snot outta a literal giant worm monster and all, didn't get sick during the Long Night and generally was a tough dude but- ah well, it was what it was. He'd survive, everyone else would too, cause they always did.
Watching the caribou from afar, his pale brows furrowed. Now he was a fine hunter but weren't no expert on the behaviour of other animals, that didn't seem normal or healthy, it stunk in a bad way, made his pale nose wrinkle as he approached through the snow. Oki knew suffering when he saw it and this weren't right.
"Hey now, have some pity yeah? Poor thing deserves some mercy, just end it quick as we can." He told the group, uncharacteristically reproachful, woulda wagged a finger if he had one.

He warily watched the Caribou in its frenzy. Wondering what the repercussions might be if any to hunting a creature that clearly suffered from something, but he wasn't sure what that something was. His focus was broken when he was approached by a stranger, saying it was weird and even offering to go poke it with a stick. Within moments, another had arrived, also offering the same thing, and then another unknown joined them. His words wiser than the first two. All three wolves were strangers to him of course, all three smelling of different packs as well. He nodded at the koi marked male's words. "I agree..." He wasn't one to toy around with his prey and let them suffer longer than necessary. Best to put an end to the beasts suffering sooner rather than later. His main concern was whether or not they would get sick from whatever ailed the caribou...but maybe if they were careful. "Alright, let's put it out of its misery. We'll approach it as usual, but avoid the open sores...who knows what's plaguing the poor creature." They were all old enough that he was sure they didn't need a play by play plan on how to deal with it. Quick and concise. Bring it down, put it out. Taking a deep breath, he dropped into a hunters crouch and made his way closer, golden gaze fixed on the caribou until he was close enough. He continued to watch it, but it seemed more preoccupied and focused with its strange behavior instead of worrying about the approaching hunting party. Once he felt close enough, he rushed in, jaws open he aimed for the right hind leg, slamming into the leg while tooth and claw sought to clamp down onto its haunch. The leg buckled, partially dropping the caribou as its eyes went wild and kicked out at them, a desperate yet futile attempt. |

Another male, gray and white splotched coat, came up upon them in time to hear her offer, and Havoc shot him a mischievous grin in response to his own smile. A man after her own heart, perhaps! Go poke at it in the name of... science, probably! But then yet another male showed up, black with orange splotches this time, to piss all over their parade with morality and mercy and the first male who was already there agreed, the goody-four-paws. Havoc rolled her eyes exaggeratedly. "Don't learn nothin' if you just kill it," she grumbled. But hey, blood in the teeth could be just as fun as tormenting the stupid thing, so whatever. If they wanted to get in and get dirty, sure. She'd bite. With a snort at the brown guy and orange splotches guy, she kicked off at a sprint for the caribou. No need to cut it out of a herd, no need to do much in the way of sneaking since it didn't seem to care about their presence as much as it did digging at the ship and ground, so Havoc just dove right in, her long legs carrying her to dive in front of it, leaping up beside its frantically stabbing forelegs to grasp it's nose in her jaws. Blood spattered them both where her long fangs sliced it, and she held on with gleeful determination as it threw it's head to try to dislodge her, her heavy weight holding it. Those bloodied antlers would be a problem if it was allowed to think about trying to kill her instead of running, though...

He was a hunter by trade and curious by nature so poking at an obviously sick creature did sound interesting. The point made by their fourth though sent Kuroo's lips and ears falling into an embarrassed expression. No one said they were going to torture the poor thing... Keeping quiet as he does, Kuroo listens to the rest of the chatter before they decide to take off after their target.
Running after the first two, Kuroo notices how the herd doesn't really care about their presence. They're far more engrossed by the ship and digging their hooves and antlers into the ground until their own bodies were covered in blood. It sends a shiver rolling down his spine, his steps only faltering slightly before he's rushing forward to close the gap between himself and the doe. While Grimoire moved for the right hind, Kuroo moved for the left hind. Leaping just a bit further so his teeth lodged into the front of the thigh, closer to the stomach, careful to avoid any open sores.

Oki didn't take any offence to Havok's exaggerated response, her eye roll and snippy comment earned her an amused huff, would have given her a good-natured shoulder bump if she didn't spring into action before he did. Maybe he was too familiar with folks he'd just met, but it was better than being all stiff and overly formal, no?
Falling in step, he dashed forward, his brows furrowing when he realised the beast didn't even seem to notice their presence, let alone clock onto the fact they were attacking it. Shit, he'd hunted all sorts of creatures but they usually...did something, felt some kind of way about it. And it was like something snapped, cause the beast reacted with an intensity Oki had never seen before. He skidded to a stop, just ducking down to miss a hoof to the head.
"Fuckin' hell, where'd this fire come from?"
Where to bite? They didn't entirely look...edible, so instead he reached out with a claw, slashing at the meat of their thigh.

He snarled as he tore into the leg, blood gushing from the caribou though it was almost as if it didn't care that the wolves were on it. It was unlike anything he'd seen before, and quite honestly it was throwing him off and he was having second thoughts about this. Still, it was too late to turn back now. Releasing his grip, he took a different approach and instead of resuming with tooth and claw, he opted to take a few steps back and come at the same side but with his head lowered, horns aiming for the tender flesh of its belly before he charged with the intent of stabbing before twisting his head to gore the sickly beast. Perhaps better this way to better avoid the oozing sores. He didn't want to catch whatever the caribou had, after all.

Havoc managed to divide her attention as she was flapping in the wind at the end of the caribou's nose, just enough to eye the black and white and orange stranger who'd poo-poo'd her suggestion of poking the caribou. He was now poking the caribou, she observed to herself in the snidest way possible, terribly jealous of his claws. She wished she had claws. Sad. Unfair. Damn.
Well, dividing her attention had obviously been a mistake - definitely that guy's fault for having cool claws, not hers - as the caribou bore down on her with his antlers, driving one into her shoulder to gauge a bloody furrow down it. That one would definitely leave a mark... Havoc released the caribou's nose with an instinctual yell of pain before retaliating by closing her fangs over its throat, another gout of blood bathing her face, the caribou beginning to fade quickly. It'd all be over soon.

Blood tinges his mouth as his teeth sink into the belly. With all four wolves descending upon the sick creature, it suddenly thinks to have a brain and reacts. Hooves go flying, antlers go gouging, and blood spurts off in multiple directions. There's even an instinctual cry coming from the girl. His eyes widen a moment, heart hammering in his chest as he thinks of what to do.
He doesn't get a chance though. Suddenly, something begins to wiggle across his tongue. Disgust and terror fly through Kuroo as he instantly lets go and falls onto the ice. Bile rises in his throat as he coughs and coughs, trying to get whatever that sensation was off of his tongue. Quickly vomiting, he looks down at the pile to see a worm in the midst of it. What the fuck? His brain freezes, gaze lifting to the animal the others still attempt to take down.
"Stop touching it," he whispers hoarsely, frozen in fear.

His claws ripped into the creature, leaving deep gashes which didn't quite bleed as he expected them too. He made a quiet huh in his throat, perhaps wisely choosing not to bite the creature as he used his weight to help hold it down. He pressed his talons in again, using them as leverage more than anything else. It wasn't long for the world, but-he glanced over at the fisher wolf, pale brows furrowing as- he quickly reeled back, taking a few stumbling steps.
"Ewww, is that a- bro is that a worm?" It certainly wriggled like a worm, all slimy like one too.
