Down, down, down. Trailing down through the strange landscape, perhaps as a means of making sure everything that was down belonged here. The strange appearance of a new land that had seemingly lived beneath their feet the entire time was too strange, and now he had to make sure there was nothing he'd missed. Björn⁢'s gaze is sharp, bordering on ornery, as he makes his way into Glowshroom Cavern. His gait careful, though he pads between the soft mosses. A more whimsical beast may have been playing their own game of the floor is lava, but he's a bit short on whimsy today.

Instead, it's the careful gait of a predator, moving among the shadows. They're strange and distorted here, the mushrooms creating their own puddles of light. It's strange and damp, but as far as Björn⁢ can tell, nothing too unusual down here. Scratch that. Nothing more unusual than usual, for such a strange landscape. Taking a moment to rest in a particularly dark corner, he allows his eyes to adjust to the dank darkness. Studying. Planning his next move, with the dark cloud of his attitude slung around his shoulders.

Illusion's ears flickered in the gloom, catching the quiet movement of the beast coming closer to her domain. The soft glow from the mushrooms cast eerie, unnatural shadows across her workspace, highlighting the pale, dissected forms she had so carefully arranged. She had sensed the disturbance long before his cautious steps disturbed the mossy floor of the tunnel next to her’s.

Her lips curled into a faint, amused smile. "How curious..." she muttered to herself, her voice barely a whisper, as her claws traced the cold, lifeless form before her. This place, deep and forgotten, was not for the likes of ordinary souls. And certainly not for those who wandered so blindly into its maw.

Without moving from her place among the cadavers, she watched, hidden by the strange play of light and shadow. Her experiments lay splayed out around her like offerings, bodies in various stages of decomposition, each one a story she had unraveled. The cavern’s strange glow painted her fur in hues of sickly greens and blues, making her blend into the macabre scene.

She waited, her tail flicking lazily behind her. Would he notice the stench of death? Or the way the air itself seemed to thicken, as though breathing was a privilege not yet earned?

Come closer, she thought, the faintest of smiles playing at her lips. She would not be the one to break the silence, to reveal herself so easily. No, let him come. Let him feel the eyes on him, the weight of the unknown pressing down as if the very walls of the cavern were watching, waiting for him to falter. It delighted her.

Whispers come alive in a place like this. Björn doesn't begin to place them, doesn't pretend he can. Drawn in by the glowing mushrooms, letting them take hold in his imagination. Fungi were sacred to his father's people, and they utilized them well, but never shrooms like these. They're bizarre, with a glow that plainly states do not eat. While the boy isn't stupid, maybe he can find someone who is, get them to taste them. To try them. A simple study in the cavern's magic, as macabre as it would be.

Nothing ordinary about this place, though Björn's study is intense. Deep. Winding his way through, always cautious to keep his mind on the places he's traveled before. This is... unlike most of those. No comparison, aside from the way he's able to descend. Cliff climbing, but in reverse. Everything about the boy is careful, at least when it comes to the ground under his feet. Can't trust it too much. Not in light of recent events.

There are eyes in this cavern, though Björn can't yet tell who they belong to. The boy knows he's rarely alone, but this is different. It's not the gaze of the gods on his shoulders... they don't reach. Not down here. The scent of another is recent, but he doesn't have a way to place it. Lost to the ways of the world, wearing ground colored shoes and a sky colored hat-- something like that. Don't lose the plot, boy.

"Come out, come out, wherever you are." His voice is steady, curious, rumbling from somewhere deep in his chest as Björn calls out into the abyss. Acutely aware of just how not alone he is, as he explores. He needs to know. He needs to see. He needs to experience.

A thrill pulsed through Illusion, a shiver of anticipation she hadn't felt in some time. The one was clever, careful—far too cautious for the usual prey that stumbled into her domain. Her claws hovered over the lifeless form before her, the cold flesh almost forgotten as her attention shifted entirely to him. The way he moved, as if tracing invisible paths, avoiding each wrong step with meticulous care—it was fascinating, like watching a creature born to tread the shadows. Like herself.

He spoke, his voice a low murmur echoing against the tunnel walls. Bold, perhaps too bold. She remained still, hidden within the embrace of the cavern’s dim, unnatural light, her body melding into the sickly green hues that radiated from the fungal growths. Each flicker of light and shadow became an ally, obscuring her presence as she watched his every movement, each twitch and turn of his head.

"Brave," she breathed softly, so faintly it was a breath rather than a whisper, as if speaking to herself, as if contemplating whether he was worth the effort. Her tail curled slowly, a serpent’s motion, trailing lazily along the cavern floor. "Or perhaps... how foolish." Her voice is as soft as a trickle of honey, slow and calm and quiet.

Letting his words settle in the stillness, she toyed with the idea of responding—of revealing herself in this moment, letting his eyes find hers among the cold gleam of the mushrooms. But no, not yet. His curiosity was still ripening. There was something delightful in letting him believe he had the upper hand, letting him call out into the abyss as if it might answer him. Let him come.

Her gaze fixed on him, his shadow, his silhouette, unwavering, as she allowed the silence to stretch. The cavern seemed to inhale, drawing in the sound of his voice and holding it within its damp, earthen belly. She could see the way his eyes flicked to the shadows, searching for a movement that would betray her. He would find none—not unless she wished it. And she was not yet ready to grant him that mercy.

Instead, she let the cold, metallic scent of decay deepen around him, the air growing heavier, as if the cavern itself disapproved of his presence. She shifted, a soft rustle of fur against stone that barely registered above the whispering ambiance of the cave. Maybe he would hear it, the ever so slight sound of her nails scraping rock as she teased his senses. Feel it. she thought. What hunts you in the dark? There was a thrill in watching him walk the fine line between intrigue and what she thought was fear, and she savored it. You’ve entered a world that will swallow you whole.

Bold, brave, brash-- chaotic entitled, probably an applicable narrative. Winding through the shadowy cavern, lit only by the glow of the mushrooms and the faintest sunlight that could filter in, Björn doesn't allow anything to shake him. There's a chill to him, and a confidence that can't be shaken. Unbroken, unbent, drawn below with deadly certainty and predatory grace. Taking all of it in, and tracking the scent that only became clearer as he neared. Though the trail acted strangely in the damp environment, he's unshaken. It's a path to follow, good as any.

Stony walls on each side, weaving through them. Enough landmarks to drive him back to the surface when the time comes, though Björn leans into the sickly light of the mushrooms. Every part of it is strange, and every part of him is enticed by it. Drawn in, by the cavern and by the woman's whisper. A woman, he knows as much for certain now. He can hear her, feel her gaze upon his dark coat, but where was she?

Taking in the cavern for all its worth, Björn's focus is intent. Taking in all he can, though she still eludes him. The man's voice is confident, brassy as it rings from his chest once more. "Why do you hide, sweetheart?" Dripping charm, in the worst ways. All the worst ways. Tracing the damp, shining walls with an icy gaze. Björn is careful, searching among the moss and the mushrooms. A game of hide and seek, but perhaps the stakes are higher than usual. It makes him feel alive, terribly and wonderfully alive. It's far more than just exploring, this time.

Thrill. He moved through her cavern with an ease that bordered on insolence, that cool, collected confidence challenging the shadows themselves. Most who came here were marked by caution, eyes darting with that primal sense of self-preservation—but not him. No, he bore no trace of hesitation, his aura bold, as though daring her to reveal herself, to meet him on his terms.

It stirred something in her, an intrigue as she waited with bated breath. She watched with intent, her breath held in a way that wasn’t fearful but electric, on the cusp of laughter. She did not retreat, nor did she recoil. If anything, the idea of turning away now would be a defeat she had no intention of tasting. Let him press on. She wanted him to pursue, to find her, to face her. What might happen when he did?

When he called her sweetheart, the word slithered through the cavern, brushing past her ears like a lover’s insult. She could hear the coolness in his tone, the mockery laced beneath his charm, as though he was already imagining victory. Her smirk grew, a dark glint entering her gaze as she basked in his audacity. He was provoking her, coaxing her from her shadows, his every word a challenge. It was working, She was too hooked on the danger that lurked in the space between them to even think of pulling away.

A soft giggle escaped Illusion, her slender form pressed close to the rock, almost merging with it. The bright, golden markings along her body caught the eerie glow of the mushrooms—a dangerous calling card he was sure to see soon enough. “Oh, I'm not hiding. I'm waiting.” Her voice was a low jingle, soft and calm, yet every pulse of her being vibrated with an eagerness she hadn’t felt in some time. There was no dread here, only a delicious tension, an urge to see just how much his nerve would hold.

Closer, she willed, her claws tapping softly against the stone now, letting the sound drift his way. Each light scrape of her nails against rock was a message, a taunt, a lure to pull him in. The game had begun in earnest.
