God Complex
Modesty and/or Sakana
Unsure how much time had passed since beginning his trip to investigate in Auster, Gilgamesh barely makes it home. Frankly, he’s barely fucking alive. Mucous and goop cover his body, caking his fur, leaving a trail behind him as if he were a giant snail. Exhaustion riddled his bones. The injury to the back of his head required medical attention. Blood still trickled slowly every time he turned his neck.
The quickest way home had been across the channel. Not that he had enough energy to swim, but with the help of a piece of driftwood, he’d been able to make it. Barely. Collapsing on the sandy shore just on the outside of the ravine, he felt his eyes flutter closed. He had survived the worm therefore he would survive anything. Nothing would stop him.
Where was Modesty? Sakana? His lips open, but no sound emits. Throat dry and crusty, full of debris and saltwater. Thankfully, Erish was making her rounds. No doubt worried that her master had gone missing. The barn owl dips down from the sky and lands beside him. Gilgamesh barely recognizes her, but smiles nonetheless. Noticing his dire situation, Erish takes back off in search of help.

Heart in her throat, pounding in her ears. Erish's wings gave an audible beat to get her attention and it was all she needed to know things had gone to shit. Again. It wasn't like either of them were getting any younger, when was he going to realise? Or perhaps he did, and that was why he kept doing it, no desire to go quietly into the next life, no. She should have known from the start, he would be the sort to rage against the march of time.
Sakana was out looking for the wolves that had wandered off, so he would have to do with her piss poor messy attempts at healing. She knew enough to get by, at least until Sakana or Siduri could see to him. Barely stopping to adjust the saddlebags stuffed with healing supplies, Modesty raced down the steps of the treehouse two at a time, shooting like an arrow on the tail of the barn owl.
An audible sob is ripped from her chest when she spots Gilgamesh, barely dragged out of the water, covered in... oh god whatever it was it reeked, and it didn't look like it was doing his skin any favours. First she would pour a tincture down his throat to manage any pain and then she would start taking stock of his injuries... A nasty gash to the back of his head and... where the fuck did she start?
She tried to smile reassuringly, but her lips kept trembling. "You look like you've been chewed up and spat back out." If only she knew. It was probably for the best that she didn't.
"speech"
Post-worm life had been... difficult. Lonesome, in a way. The voices that had echoed within the confines of her mind for as long as she could remember... they had vanished. It was a good thing, it really was. But... Siduri could feel their absence. It was a strange feeling and she didn't quite know how to come to terms with it yet. Sakana had grounded her though. His presence was like a buoy that held her above water. An anchor to keep her from losing her mind.
The man in question was off collecting the Raiders that had gone to face the worlds dangers. He'd made sure to bring her back and treat her wounds first. It wasn't like Sid was a healer or anything... but he hadn't been content until he'd tended to her himself. It was cute, the way he worried. She didn't have the heart to tell him no.
After Sakana was gone, Sid rested, as she'd been told to do. It was then that she saw Erish darting across the ravine, the bird looking frantic. Ears perked and, despite what she'd been told, the pastel fae raced after the bird, only to find her parents up ahead, one of them worse for wear.
Skidding to a halt, there was a snarl on Siduri's lips. "Who did it? What happened? I swear to the gods above that I'll raze them to the ground." Protective of her parents, yes. Enraged that someone had dared to harm Gilgamesh, yes. Also, it was easier to be infuriated than it was to be upset and crying.
After what felt like a century, he hears the approach of someone. His eye swirls, trying to see them until it finally lands on Modesty. The look of disgust on her face is exactly how he feels on the inside. “Well, I kind of was,” he rasped, forcing the words to leave him before he lets out a hoarse laugh. Closing his eyes, wishing sand wasn’t mixing with the goop he was covered in, he fights back the fear. What he’d done had been so stupid and the fact that he was here, now, was a fucking miracle.
Not a moment later, before he could even ask for water, Siduri is standing over him, demanding to know who did it. Gilgamesh laughs again. “The worm is slain,” he manages to blurt out, hoping it quelled some of her own fear and concern. At least now she had no reason to go search for the dastardly monster he had dealt with.
