I'm ready for one more battle scar
Bishop welcome
Scream 'til there's silence The massive male padded out into the barren wastes of what he could only assume was a battlefield. A grounds for fighting and finding comradery among others like himself. Head was level with his spine as bear paws stirred up dust with every step. He was well aware Bishop might follow him here, it was in her nature to discover everything, but he was itching for something familiar, something more than he could find without a stranger's help. A battle hardened past kept the soldier always ready to leap into a fray, and if bishop was involved anyone could expect him to burst i ready to slaughter those around. He already had, not that she knew. Murderer, a title he wore well. Stopping once he found a good spot to fight he settled his defenses and rolled his dense boned shoulders and tossed a rasped out but still powerful in its own right howl for an opponent to spar him. He hadn’t been here in a long time; perhaps not since that farce of a challenge for Valhalla; one he’d essentially won without a fight as the challenger backed down and rescinded. It was, at least, the most memorable trip to this place he’d had, aside from meeting Tel for the first time.
It was time he brush up on his skills. He hadn’t been idle in his and Tel’s journeys, sparring often, but familiarity could breed holes in ones training, so, like his Fiancé, Ardyn made his way to the Field, Lyr drifting lazily on the breeze above him, Lunira and Sädir padding behind him. Sädir had grown out of his kitten-like bounciness and settled into a self-assured mountain lion, much to Lunira’s relief.
Ardyn ranged for a good while before he spotted movement in the distance, followed not long after by a raspy call for a spar.
Ardyn answered with a smoother song, informing the other that he was interested and would be there shortly.
As he went, he stretched, each leg quivering pleasantly to its fullest extent for a step before he shook himself out, armor creaking softly, pouches thumping his sides. He’d had yet to re-braid the beads and feathers and bells into his mane and tail hair after his hunt, so they fell loose and rippling on the breeze, flickering with flame.
Soon enough, the caller came into sight and Ardyn regarded him with interest, though the examination lasted little more than a few heartbeats. Matched in height with himself, but perhaps a bit heavier of build; well suited to taking hits and packing a punch. Judging by the scars, this fellow was no stranger to battle. The short tail caught Ardyn’s eye for a beat, though he didn’t linger on it for more than a glance.
What really drew his interest was the male’s paws. Long toes, like his own, though with a shape that was quite reminiscent to a bear’s paws. His own long digits flexed slightly, claws slipping from their sheathes and back in.
Ardyn dipped his muzzle in a courteous, faintly smiling nod, his frame shifting smoothly and swiftly into a balanced stance, light on his toes and chin tucking to guard his throat as his head settled to rest level with his shoulders, tail flicking out behind him, ready to offer balance.
Lyr circled above, glowing plumage fluttering, and the two large cats took positions at Ardyn’s flanks, ears pricked and waiting as Ardyn asked, “One on one, or do you mind if they join in? I’m good either way.”
Ardyn vs Zosime for Spar
Walk ---- "Speak" ---- "Labhair an Sean-Teanga." ---- "Hear" ---- Think |
Ardyn at first glance is as black as can be imagined with a raven sheen.
Closer inspection proves that he shimmers in fire tones in every hair on his hide right down to his lashes.
More obviously, he glows like a bed of coals and flames with every movement and brush of fur. His tail is usually wagging, so blazes like a torch.
His adult teeth are in and his saber canines have grown to their full length (see profile). His mane and tail hair have grown to full length, as well as being lightweight and easily buffeted by breezes.
A look at his front paws will give the impression of hands, with his dew claw dropped low and lengthened into a functioning thumb, and his toes elongated into fingers. He has retractable, solid black cat-like claws on every paw.
Ardyn has developed a glowing mast of intricate markings in fire and ice colors over his face, symmetrical over the last seasons of Year 17 (see profile for details). During hunts or raids/sieges, he will smudge them out with black soot to cover the glow, otherwise, they are bright enough to note at first direct glance at his face. Not all his artwork currently portrays the mask markings.
He is also often bedecked in beads, small bells, feathers in blues, ribbons and braids thanks to the Ooze Event of Halloween 2021, and the Coathanger item that he got. The accessories generally are seen most in his mane and tail hair. He removes the brighter items and bells for hunts or battle.
Scream 'til there's silence It didn't take long and another was joining him on the battlefield. Seafoam eye met the darker stranger. The companions at his sides didn't bother Zo nor the oogling he did. The greeting was watched, observed and a stiff one of his own given back, lest Bishop see him be rude and he get an ear-chewing for being so eager for battle he didn't return it. His own claws flexed as he settled back into his defenses and he waited. Either the stranger would strike or speak first he wasn't sure. His answer was given when the stranger asked if Zosime was alright with the cats and raven joining or if he wanted it one one one. He could say he didn't care but truthfully he wasn't here to be babied. He was a soldier not a pup, to treat him like a child would be disrespectful. "The more the merrier... treat it like we are in war...." His voice a raspy deep thing that spoke of underuse. Truth be told he didn't speak much or often. Bishop had heard more from the soldier than any other. His face remained a serious one, he was after all a man who took everything seriously. He couldn't let the other think he was going to fight like he wasn't going to normally. He watched the defenses fall in place and mirrored them. His short tail the only difference but it was still held stiff over his back for the most part. His toes flexed before he tensed and flung himself for the other. His maw opening to allow for the space his sabers needed to bite. He aimed to slam his heavier body, made even heavier by his bones into the other's shoulder, his right aiming for the left of the stranger. His right bear paw with claws flexed aimed for the other's right side, near the ribs and shoulder area, in an attempt to grasp and hold in the same moment as his planned impact. Back paws splayed to keep the other from pushing him back as teeth aimed to simultaneously bite into the junction of nape and shoulder on the strangers left side. His ferocity in battle was a key factor of him. He was after all a bear of a man. His left paw aimed to slam down beside the other so he had better traction and balance. Walk, "Talk", Think |
