Distant Memories

Her mind had trailed off as she heard the sounds of the owls singing their melody in the distant night of the prairie. Her ebony claws dug into the foliage that bended beneath the small grass that pressed down under her paws. Her lobes perked forward as she could hear the sounds of coyotes that were tearing at the flesh of a deceased dove that had to have been dead for a couple days. Since she was a rogue, it was hard to catch a descent meal of elk or deer, but, this kill was small and she had not eaten in days.
Her form was just about to strike the kill and claim it, but she saw that one of the coyotes was pregnant with her own cubs as a smile crept across her face, backing away from the prey that would've been a good snack for her.
She had been alone for a year and it was surprising to her that she had managed to live this long. The crunching of the prairie grass beneath her paws echoed its own melody as she smiled and soon lied down next to a stream, lapping at the stagnant and frigid liquid that quenched her thirst. She placed her cranium on her forepaws and smiled. But, many sounds woke her from her sleep as her eyes looked around.[FONT=Times][SIZE=7][COLOR=red][I]
