Poe had been following the woman for weeks and would continue to follow her now. She was a beauty to him, a raven trapped in the body of a wolf. Her total darkness was a testament to that. He admired her confidence, her regal posture, and her wisdom. It was the day he realized that she was blind that he decided to follow her to the ends of the earth. She would be his mistress - he would do anything for her.

It seemed that she had noticed him only recently. She had simply turned her head to him one day on her way back to her pack, as he flapped above her, and smirked before turning back to the path before her. Every so often since, she would acknowledge him with a look or a scrap of meat thrown his way, which he took as unwavering acceptance.

The pieces had been falling into place quicker than she ever could have hoped for. Her husband had returned, and with him her strength and her confidence. This day she had left him to adjust to life within the pack, but she would seldom leave his side except to complete her duties to Olympus. She and the patriarch were in agreement that the family should begin to seek out allies, so she would do just that.

The bird had been following her for many days now. It was a welcome company, a silent watcher. She was glad to keep him nearby, sharing her meals in exchange for his watchful eye and company. Eventually they would speak to one another, but for now silence was comfortable. Natalya wondered as she padded across the smooth marble floor what her family would think of the servant she had adopted.

She would stop suddenly and here the raven land not too far away, but far enough to appear disconnected as he liked. She would release a call that as clearly one for the leader of the pack and wait patiently for his arrival.

talk, think

and quoth the raven, "nevermore"
