Like a Black Butterfly

"Ah! My people!" The raspy voice of a gecko called filled with glee as he sat atop a small rock and turned looking at the variety of reptiles around him. Smaller lizards hiding here and there, iguanas that looked like massive beasts to him, crocodiles off in the distance and lizards of all size elsewhere. The wolf laying on the hot ground in front of him huffed though her nose. "No Alphonso, your people are back in the sands. These are more like your cousins are they not?" Isabella locked her icy blue eyes on the black and yellow gecko.
Her voice was a chill in this hot place both for being so calm as ever and for being of a wolven tongue. Of course Alphonso spoke the language but his voice was still that of a gecko. Coking his head, the gecko looked a the fox colored wolf who looked so relaxed with her head on her outstretched legs tilted just a bit. Still she looked as proud as ever with eye that would challenge anything and ears prominent as a crown. "Ah yes Madam Izzy the literal. How could I forget? You really do need to loosen up."
Isabella gave no reaction to this, not even a twitch of an ear. Alphonso sighed and turned away from the stubborn wolf. Something caught his eye nearby, a flutter of movement. Looking up she saw a black butterfly fly over them. Isabella lifted her head at the creature was well, watching the beautiful black swallowtail fly away. It was something else to make her glad to come to this island, for one thing Alphonso had the chance to see other lizards and to wander around beside and in front of her rather than in her fur, and for another thing the climate here was lovely, enough so for butterflies to still be around.
"Humph, silly creature."Alphonso said looking from it to Isabella. Isabella kept her eyes on it as she replied. "Silly? What is wrong with it? It is proud in the way it flies. Butterflies, they fly on proud wings and put their past behind them. A good life." "Ridiculous." Alphonso said about to turn from the wolf. Isabella suddenly looked at him making him freeze. "Don't say it's ridiculous. I want that kind of life.... It sounds good. Doesn't it?" Her words changed, just a moment in the end her voice broke and her longing to be happy was clear. During that moment her ears fell and her eyes looked saddened. She didn't mind showing her emotion to the gecko, he was a friend and it was nice to have someone to be able to drop her guard around if only for a moment. Alphonso looked at her silently as she lifted her ears again and put her facade back in all but her eyes. He had no answer for the wolf, he wished he had one but it was a question too complicated for any simple answer.
