I guess that I forgot I had a choice

I let you push me post the breaking point

Avery's brown fur shone in the midday sun, soaking in the scorching heat. Her tongue lolled out the side of her mouth in a pant to cool herself off. In her full year of life this was the hottest weather she had seen yet. Pale blue eyes scanned the horizon and nose scented around for the border of the pack called Elysium. The rumours that the girl had heard had stirred her interest in the pack and she holed to join that day. Paws stopped as her nose aleryed her to a scent marker lininng the border. With a smile, Avery tilted her head up and let forth a howl, summoning anyone of Elysium.

The calls were damn near constant. It seemed as though she spent most of her time running back and forth from the borders. But if it meant more numbers, more strength, more power, she was fine with it. As she approached, a chocolate fae came into view, tongue hanging from her part jaws. The heat had not yet left and she hated it. However, the forest shielded some of the heat out, making this summer slightly more tolerable.

"You've come to Elysium, stranger, do you seek acceptance?" It had become routine to ask and then question her prospective members before granting them access. With the tournaments only a few days away, there was no need to test their skills now, she would see soon enough.

Avery stood respectfully at the borders, awaiting someone to respond. It wasn't long before a beautiful fea came into the yesrling's sights. As the woman approached, Avery bowed her head respectfully. "You've come to Elysium, stranger, do you seek acceptance?" Avery smiled slightly and looked into the woman's gaze. I do, Madame. I seek acceptance into your noble pack. My skills are few, but I have an eagerness to learn. Sharp, ivory teeth flashed in a polite smile. She had high hopes if she was accepted and hoped to thrive. Avery had never been part of a pack, unless her birth pack counted. She could hardly remember that wretfhed place where her family resided. The girl had no doubt Elysium was better.

Coral gems would eye the girl carefully. Her smile was polite, her stance and words respectful. A brow would lift in thought. She did not portray an image of strength or brutality. But rather the exact opposite. She'd be torn to pieces by the rest of her pack. Haunches would drop down as she remained silent for a long while, not answering the girl right away.

"Do you know what this pack stands for? Can you withstand the rigors of war and death?" Words were sharp, like a whip as she looked down at the girl. "Are you ready to make your home amongst the worst of society?" She would not relent, she would push the girl until she broke, giving the Queen the honest answer. Could she really do it?

Avery tried to stand still under the woman's red gaze. What was it she was thinking? Did Avery not look the part? Maybe something else. The girl's uneasiness grew as the moments stretched on. The sudden questioning took the girl by surprise. "Do you know what this pack stands for? Can you withstand the rigors of war and death? Are you ready to make your home amongst the worst of society?" The girl looked the monarch in the eye. Although her words were sharp, Avery knew they were true. "I was abandoned by my parents when I was barely a two months old. I was left to fend for myself and although I may not be the most formidable or threatening looking of wolves, I haven't done too bad a job. I'm ready to stop being the one that was always picked on, always ignored. I heard this is a pack that could show me how to be a loyal wolf, a strong wolf, a wolf of war." Despite her nervousness, the girl's voice remained steady. She did not break eye contact with the Queen. Did she say too much? Was it too bold?

The girl her gaze, not once breaking it, even as the Queen threw questions at her. The woman answered truthfully and that the Queen could admire, though it would take more than being truthful to survive around here. "Surviving alone it one thing, surviving here is another. But I will give you the chance. You will join my ranks as a hunter, learn quickly and you will survive, be smart and you will climb the ranks." She didn't know if she would regret this decision or not, but she would find out soon enough. "Do you have any questions?" She would give the girl only a moment to think before the Monarch turned from and headed back into the mists of her home.

-exit cat unless there are questions-
