Since joining Valhalla, Tyr had not ventured from the lands they claimed. Why would he need to? Why would he want to? In the end it wasn't restlessness, or curiosity that drove him to step over the border at the gorge. It was just a nagging worry that he was becoming too dependent on a pack for everything. Too relaxed, too trusting. Someday that trust would be broken, and if he didn't keep his emotional distance he would be worse off than before he'd joined. So he'd taken that first step past the scent markers, then kept walking.

Now he found himself halted at the edge of a ravine. It had come up so suddenly that if he hadn't been going at his usual halting, limping pace when he pushed through the brush right near the edge he might have tumbled right in. He limped his slow way down the thin strip that was clear of brush, until he reached a larger clearing, but he could still not see a decent way around, and he sighed in frustration. He should have chosen a different way. Maybe south to the big water there. There was supposed to be an island near there. He could have swum to it and been alone for a while someplace more pleasant rather than this hot and useless slice in the earth.

He stretched out, still glaring at the ravine, and laid his chin on his crossed forepaws. He couldn't even navigate properly, but he was supposed to be training to be a healer? How many wolves were going to die because he screwed up, before Erani realized she was wrong and kicked him out?

Misha padded onwards, making her way to the Valhalla territory. She wouldn't cross their territory, of course; but she was just simply curious. Curious of what lies in the pack lands, and maybe, just maybe- considering to join. Only if they would invite her in, of course. Misha looked up at the sky and let out an elongated sigh of happiness. The sun was out, but so were the clouds, and the sun was partially hidden by them. There was a slight breeze in the air, giving the impression that Autumn was here. Suddenly, the ground began to shake violently, and the trees shook with might, the sound of nature and the animals realizing the situation they were in filling the air. Misha panted around and looked for some kind of shelter, or a way free of this terror. This was all too new for her, for she had never felt the ground shake from beneath her paws. The idea began to make her sick and lightheaded.

Something, some deep buried instinct, caused Tyr to throw up his head, suddenly alert, moments before the earth bucked beneath him. Just past his paws the ground was crumbling at the very edge of the ravine, a rain of pebbles tumbling down the sheer cliff. In a panic Tyr scrambled backward. The sharp pain as he put his crippled leg to unaccustomed use went nearly unnoticed in his mad rush to get away from the cliff's edge. So too did the frightened female who just happened to be on the other side of the brush when he spun around and crashed through them.

Unnoticed up until the point when the bushes finally gave way and the little male tumbled out of them to land in a heap on the still-rolling ground. "Misha!" he gasped out in surprise, recognizing the girl he'd spoken with briefly before joining Valhalla. "Come on, we have to get out of here! Follow me!" Scrambling back to his feet he took off again.

Tyr had never experienced anything like this, the earth trembling and rocking beneath his paws like a wolf trying to shake water from it's coat, but he was quick enough to realize that a cliff was not a safe place to be when the world was trying to send you flying. So he took off in the direction he felt would be safest, toward the far-distant Valhallan border between the ravine and the gorge. But the trembling seemed to get worse the closer he got, so Tyr stopped once more at a good distance from the ravine, his legs splayed to make some attempt at balance as the world shook around him. "Misha?" he cried out, eyes darting around to try to see if she'd followed. He couldn't hear well at the best of times - with the grinding thunder of the earthquake pummeling his ears he couldn't even hear his own voice, let alone the pawsteps of another wolf.

Misha stumbled back in surprisement as she saw the familiar coat of dark red orange and black. "Tyr?" She asked in a confused tone, positive it was him. She had remembered him from a while back, but didn't expect to see him again. Ever again, honestly. She nodded quickly and listened to Tyr's orders, struggling to keep up with him. Misha had a hard time of balancing on the rocking earth beneath her, and with a loud whine, she tumbled to the ground from all fours. She had twisted her left front paw, possibly broken it from the way she had twisted the muscles and bone. She looked up frantically for Tyr. "Tyr!!" She yelled out in an afraid voice, looking back down at her twisted paw.

Tyr's frantic gaze didn't find the other wolf nearby. He spun around, losing his balance and tumbling to the ground halfway through. Scrambling to his feet, panting with the fiery burn of his bad leg, he finished the turn with more care, searching wildly for her. Where had she gone? Had she not followed at all? Was she trapped?

Once more breaking into a painfully slow run, he made his way back the way he'd come. Finally he could see her sprawled form and hobbled back to her. "We can't stay here! Come on, you need to get up!" But the way she was holding herself, the familiar tautness of pain, caught his attention and his gaze followed her down to her paw, held at an awkward angle.

Oh, no no no, he could deal with this right now. He hadn't even started his healer training! He glanced longingly over his shoulder at Valhalla's border. Erani would know what to do. But by the time he got there and brought a healer back the whole cliff face could be gone. As it was he was terrified that any second it would just shear off, sending him and Misha both tumbling to their deaths. He could just leave, desperately wanted to just save himself and leave her to figure things out on her own but...

But Erani had faith that he wasn't that person anymore. The selfish, terrified, bitter child whose cowardice had caused so much suffering in the past. If he just ran off now he'd be letting her down, wouldn't he? And even if she didn't know, he would.

"Uhh... o-ok, Misha, listen, I know it hurts a lot, but we need to get you on your feet and moving, ok? When we get somewhere save we'll stop and take care of it." His ears flicked forward and back fretfully, unsure this was the right thing to do as a healer but absolutely certain he didn't want to be where they were. "Just... just keep your paw off the ground, ok? You can lean on my shoulder and we'll go slow."

He nudged his nose beneath her left foreleg where it joined with her chest, trying to slide it up his neck so the larger female's leg would rest across his shoulder, allowing her to put pressure on the leg itself without the paw touching anything so she could get to her feet.

Misha quickly pulled away from Tyr, but gently as she did so. She was all too familiar with Tyr having a permanent injury himself, and she didn't want to make it harder for him. Especially while the earth shook uncontrollably beneath them. She looked up at Tyr, keeping her left twisted paw tucked against her chest. She huffed a painful sigh and looked around, waiting for Tyr to lead them to somewhere. "Don't worry about me, I can do it myself.." She said in a weary tone.

When Misha pulled away from him, Tyr sent an puzzled glance over at her before he realized why she had. His mouth twisted bitterly. Of course. She was concerned about him being a cripple. His glance turned impatient as another heave of the earth threatened to send him to his knees... They were really way too close to the cliff. "Look, we don't have time for the bleeding heart act. I'm used to keeping my balance three-legged, you aren't. If I wait for you to stumble around like a one-legged spider..." he had to pause as the ground shook violently under him... "If I have to wait, we're both going to die. Now just put your leg on my shoulders, put your weight against me, ok? We can walk together." He shoved his muzzle insistently at her elbow. "Don't argue, ok? We have to go!" Any of his siblings would have been shocked to see him actually insisting on anything let alone trying to save someone, but somehow not living up to the expectations of the one person who saw him as being more than the cripple seemed worse than almost anything he'd been through under his father's rule.

Misha looked at the red orange and black calico wolf in shock. He wanted to help Misha, with a permanent cripplement of an injury of his own; and he hadn't even known Misha that well. They weren't acquainted to call each other friends, but he was surely proving to her that he wanted to be her friend. Misha flicked her tail hesitantly and leaned her weight against him once she was sturdy beneath him. She looked at Tyr with pain and longing in her eyes, for she hope she didn't die out here because of her stupid and clumsiness to get a twisted paw of her own.

Had he not been so occupied by the bucking ground beneath his feet, Tyr might have been shocked, firstly that he'd actually ordered anyone around, and secondly that she had actually done what he told her. As it was, he could barely keep himself from bolting, impatiently shifting his weight from paw to paw as he waited for her to settled herself. Impatient, but when she was finally ready and he took his first limping step forward with her, it was with gentleness and caution. With her weight on his good foreleg, he couldn't use it to augment his own twisted limb, so it was taking full weight with every step. The pain he could ignore, but the limb was still shorter than it's opposite, so each step down onto it jarred his body even if he hadn't been stumbling from the shaking earth, and made him worry for Misha's foot, draped as it was over him. Still, it was faster than if they'd not been joined together, and each step they took from the cliffside took a figurative weight from his shoulders. They passed the point that he judged them likely safe from the cliff, but Tyr kept going, slowly, nudging her once in a while with his muzzle to wordlessly encourage Misha to keep moving.

After what seemed like an eternity, the earthquake stopped as suddenly as it had started. So suddenly, that Tyr actually stumbled. His head came up, and he glanced around in a daze. It was over? He carefully squirmed out from under Misha's leg, watchful that she was keeping her balance without him. "Hey listen, you really need a healer. My pack is close, we could head that direction and see if anyone will help. I can go ahead since I'll be faster, and bring a healer back to the border, ok?" With the adrenaline draining from him, the madness that had possessed him to make him temporarily imperious was fading, his demeanor settling back slowly into his usual timid, uncertain self.

Misha nodded hesitantly as she watched Tyr head for Valhallan borders. She gave a sigh of relief as it was finally over, the dizzying shaking and rocking from the earth below. Misha attempted to keep her balance on three paws. The orangey red brown and white female feeling a sharp, tensing based pain in the bone of her left paw. She held back a stiffled whine, blinking away her tears. The pain was completely unbearable. Misha shook her head in anticipation and began to get up, determined to get to the healer before Tyr brought one back. What if the earth began shaking and rocking again? She began to limp her way towards Valhallan borders, tucking her paw against her chest.
