Her new home wasn't the most interesting thing ever, but at least it wasn't rife with snakes - or strangers. She was still a little surprised that a pack had chosen their new home as a place to settle. Weren't their better places to live? But it seemed that the pack had liked their old home more than Hel's siblings had, and once again they'd relocated. The walking hadn't been as bad this time as it had been last time, perhaps because they were older and stronger now than they'd been before. Hel was stronger now, at least, and possessed more endurance than perhaps a pup her size might have otherwise. Despite her seeming inability to gain fat (or much muscle), she was stronger than she appeared with her bony frame.

Not that it mattered much. The youngster had was wandering her prairie home, stretching out her legs while still not getting too far from her family. No sense in going any further than she had to to get entertainment, not when she had such a sprawling mass of new family to discover and interact with. She had hardly given them a chance thus far, reluctant to grow close to these strangers that masqueraded as family. They could leave as easily as Imena had, as easily as her mother had abandoned them all, and Hel was reluctant to trust them. Still, she was bored, and there was plenty to entertain her right here - all she had to do was summon them.

With that in mind, Hel tilted her head back and let out a squeaky howl. It didn't carry far, but hopefully it would bring those in the area to her side to entertain her.

Will you recognize me, When I'm lying on my back?
Something's gone inside me, And I can't get it back.

Wind rustled through his fur and continued it's seductive call. Aksel was growing rapidly and as his body had grown so had his curiosity and his desire to travel and explore. After conversing with the ravens he'd come to a decision to break away from his family and begin his travels as a lone male. Just for awhile of course. Aksel had every intention of coming back but it was clear to him even at this early age that he just wasn't a pack wolf. Now how to tell his family? He frowned. Pretty sure his sisters wouldn't mind but he knew his dad would probably freak out.

It was then he heard the howl of his sister Helena. Curious he bounded in the direction of her call. As soon as she was in sight he dove toward her, tail wagging as he attempted to lick her left cheek. "Hey Hel! How's it going?"

Walk | Talk | Think

They had moved. While their new location was all well and nice, pretty flowers and hospitable neighbors, Bera could not help missing the Plains that she and the rest of her intricate family had once called theirs. She might have been there only a short time, but in that time her life had changed considerably and all for the better. She had started to pull her weight in a way that she always had longed to, and no one here thought her silly or confused or overstepping her place for it. In fact, it had been encouraged by those watching over her. She would patrol the borders, she would face off with mild snakes and send them squirming away while giving the worst their due space, and she was learning to follow scents. She still had a ways to go with that yet, but her improvements were considerable nonetheless.

The challenge here in this land was minimal compared to how it had been in the Serpent Plains, and for that as she marched around doing another of her favored patrols she yawned widely and lost slightly the purpose in her step. It was hard to stay focused when there was less here to keep her attentive. But she was surprised when she heard someone call out, a young someone wishing for company. The still round girl slowed her ambling gait and halted to tilt her head and angle what remained of an ear toward the howl. One of her relatives? She seemed to have quite a few of them, their relation to her somewhat jumbled as she struggled to remember who was who and where they fit into the family tree.

She might have been able to excuse not going to answer the sound by claiming she needed to finish what she had started, but she was sure Thor would have liked to hear that she was making an effort to learn something of the other pups that she was learning to accept as family. So the brown, earless pup who was only just beginning to lose the roundness of puphood and gain the lankiness of youth turned her large paws from her task and set off to answer it, traveling through the prairie to find not one but two wolves. One of which she recognized upon sight. "Hello, Aksel," she greeted him, naming him as she had already once been introduced to him just after making it here in this new land. As for the other girl, she could not say she knew her. Bera's steps slowed and then stopped, giving a little space to the other girl just in case she was any kind of nervous thing the way Eostre was. "Hello," she said kindly, offering both a smile as she tried to open the door for potential friendships.

Hel's ears twitched as the sounds of pawsteps reached her ears. The youngster stirred, swinging her head towards the source, and a wide smile crossed her face as Aksel padded forth. The girl leaped forward, closing the distance between them rapidly as she attempted to lick her brother's cheek. "Aksel!" She greeted the other happily, tail wagging enthusiastically in the air behind her. Two mothers down and it seemed the only constants in her life were her siblings and her father - everything else seemed to be changing all around her. But Aksel and Ace and Everest and her father, they'd always been there. They were all she needed.

It was only when the brown female made her appearance that Hel backed off, her ears pinning back for a moment as the other addressed her brother. Who was this? "Hi! Are you one of my new aunts? Uncle Thor said all the new ones were aunts and uncles! But you're our age. How does that work?" The questions bubbled from her maw, though Hel still remained on guard. Maybe this stranger was family, but she wasn't the kind of family that Hel could afford to get close to - she might go missing too. But her siblings and her father would always be around, right?

Of course, always was a long time - and time does have a way of changing things.

ooc: crappy edit! Inactivating Aksel for a little while til things settle down in RL He'll be back a grown, handsome badass so no worries but I didn't want to wait on this thread to long. *snugs*

Will you recognize me, When I'm lying on my back?
Something's gone inside me, And I can't get it back.

Spring air rustled through the trees as Aksel fidgeted on his paws. He was every bit as restless as the leaves that stirred overhead but at the same time? he was fighting his doubts. To leave or to stay? What would his family think? All the same though he was itching to get out from under his father's paw and out on his own. He knew his other siblings had done their fair share of wandering. Now it was his turn.

Aksel smiled as Bera appeared. He counted her among his family as well as Eostre though Arnporr? well? she was still super grumpy. He wasn't sure if he'd ever get along with her. But oh well! "Heya Bera! How's patrol?" He grinned as Hel spoke. "Thor explained this to me! They have the same mom as Uncle Thor he was just born a few litters before them." He felt so smart. Puffing out his chest to explain.

"So what are you guys up to? I? I'm thinking about heading out on my own adventure soon. Dad's probably gonna flip but boy will I have stories when I get back. It won't be long and I promise to bring you guys back something cool!" He had no idea how they'd take it but it wasn't like he'd be gone forever. Suddenly self conscious he bounded away stopping for a short moment to offer a smile before he turned and disappeared.
