The wolves of Threar had certainly settled back into their home once more. The scent markers for the borders had been restored and the pack's scent in general was strong throughout the area once again. There certainly seemed to be a calmer air about the pack as well now, happy to be back and the storm could now, for the most part, be put behind them. Autumn had certainly presented them with a better turn for the weather, it was cooler now though it was only to be expected with the season change. The rain had stopped pouring now and the winds no longer tore through the lands with such ferocity, they could feel safe here again.

The bay had been hit the worst by the storm, though even that had reached a comfortable state again. As always it was slightly windier, though a far more gentle change in strength than the intense strength of the winds that had threatened to blow you away. Peace had been restored once more and Novella could certainly feel that change as she moved through her lands. She was sure they had all picked up upon it, they still couldn't relax of course though the fear had faded. Mismatched eyes would simply gaze out across the sea as she realised that fact, watching the waves, so gentle in comparison to the ones she had seen during the Summer, and admiring the view as the sun finished rising.

HERNE DESTRUCTION

do you know where the wild things go ?

Herne was not often inclined to wander far from his den, but the territory of Threar was certainly safe enough that he felt comfortable with stretching his legs a little. Still a little shaky on his limbs, Herne took occasional breaks during his wanderings, his breath coming in soft little pants as he recovered his energy. His muscle strength was still lacking, though it was slowly building as Herne pressed his limits further and further in his small forays into the outside world. He would never be the wild card of his siblings - dusk always found Herne trotting obediently back to his den and curling up near whichever parent was closest.

It was only the trail of his mother that would manage to drag Herne this far from home. Normally, he would have headed back after much less time than this, but Herne had been attempting to practice his tracking in the aftermath of his first lesson. It had not gone horribly awry, but instead, Herne had found himself growing aware of an entire aspect of the territory that he had not paid much attention to before. The lands around him had a myriad of different smells, and trying to pick them apart had been what lead Herne to discovering the scent trail of his mother.

From there, he had simply followed it along as best he could. He had lost in a few places, but he had managed to track his mother down at last. Tail wagging enthusiastically, Herne bounded forward and flopped down at his mother's paws. He was panting a little, rather tired from his small voyage, but overjoyed by the comforting sight of his mama. Instead of trying to talk, Herne took a few moments to catch his breath, grinning happily up at his mother.

Her children were certainly growing swiftly though confidence hadn't developed quite as quick for some of them. Aslan was easily the most adventurous, so much so that it did scare Novella a little, fearful that at some point he would get himself into trouble. He understood borders at least now, though so far it hadn't stopped his little trips to Sawtooth. Herne on the other hand couldn't have been anymore different. Aslan wandered where he pleased but the smaller of her sons would stick close to the den, the escape from the storm being the only time he had really travelled any distance from it. Still though, not that the boy realised it but as the smallest and weakest of her children, even he had managed to scare Novella. He certainly wasn't as small or weak as her nephew Descant had been, though it was another possibility she had worried about, more when they were younger to be honest than she did now.

Therefore it would surprise her when the boy suddenly planted himself beside her, silent aside from a soft pant as he looked up at her. He was rather happy it seemed though whether for himself or for the company the mother wasn't immediately sure. "Hello Herne." She would smile back at the child, nuzzling him in greeting. "Did you decide to come and watch the sunrise with me?" She enquired. The colours were fading now, he had missed much of it though Novella would of course still invite her son to join her none the less.

HERNE DESTRUCTION

let's run, not walk, through this beautiful life

When his mother addressed him, Herne's tail thumped happily against the earth. He moved to nuzzle her cheek lightly as she pressed her nose against his body in greeting, delighted by the presence of the woman. He adored his mother (of course), and to spend time with her was a fantastic thing. "Hi, mama!" His voice was a little squeaky still, but slowly his words were growing more confident, though he was still hesitant to speak as much as some might. With his family, at least, he didn't feel pressured to speak. He spoke when he wanted to, no more and no less.

For a moment, Herne was content just to bask in the adoring presence of his mother, but before long she was asking him a question and he found himself tilting his head a little as he considered it. "I was tracking," The youngster nodded slightly, tilting his head back to look at his mother. "I wanna get better at that... But sunrises are nice too." He hadn't exactly set out with the intention of seeing the sunrise with his mother, which he hoped he had conveyed with his limited words. Sometimes it was hard to get words to mean exactly what he wanted them to mean. It was part of why he didn't talk as much as he could.

Ears twitching slightly, Herne glanced up at the now fading sky. The colors were slowly vanishing, leaving only the bright blue that he was so familiar with. "Why does the sky turn colors, mama?" Herne asked absently, eyes still focused on the far away sky.

Novella would smile at the boy's answer. Evidently the lessons had had an influence on her children, even Herne opting to continue honing the skill in his own time, desiring to better himself. It was still hard to believe that they were already at an age where they were able and expected to learn these things. "I'm sure you will get better." And she told no lies there, though he wasn't as strong as his siblings, he was quieter than them and would likely be sneakier in tracking once he improved.

He had hoped for more practice it seemed, no intention of actually spending time with her though she had apparently raised her children well, the loving environment meaning that Herne had no desire to leave her side now and together the pair were able to watch the sun continue to rise. What she hadn't expected however was his question, honestly the woman had no answer herself. As the sun rose and sank it'd change between light and dark the colours filtering in as it did so, she understood that much though the actual science behind it was not something a wolf could ever hope to fully understand. "It just happens when the sky grows lighter or darker." She responded, giving the best answer she was able to.
