He had slipped away from his mothers usual watchful eye. Though as soon as she woke and noticed his absence, there would be hell to pay. But it was worth it. He was nearly two months old. He had grown rapidly, massive paws a subtle clue to his future monstrous size. He would leave the forest behind, nose to the ground, nostrils quivering as his senses were overloaded with new smells. He had left early morning, and by afternoon, he had found himself nearly the border of a pack. The scent stood out, clearing marking the edge of claimed lands. His dark crown would lift, ears swiveling. Hills rolled endlessly before him, grasses growing green once more. It was far different from the forest he had been raised in. Though now he couldn't imagine living in a place that so was open, with no cover, no thick mist to conceal his approach.

Pools of liquid silver absorbed everything like a sponge, it all being committed to memory. For all the bloodshed he had seen, he had seen little of the world. Since his birth, he had witnessed his mother reign victorious several times. He had seen the blood stain her ivory pelt, watched others inflict wounds upon her. Such acts had instilled a vicious temper in him, a unyielding possessiveness to defend his mother from the mongrels who dared to lay a paw on her. The desire to spill their blood across his forest had grown overwhelming at times, but he was held by his age. With each passing day he was beginning to realize more and more the path his mother was laying out for him. Together, one day, they would rule and empire that was unlike any other. Others would bow before him, kiss the ground he walked on, and blood would be spilled in his name. A sneer would begin to curl his lips, his trek halting about ten feet from the border.

He strut along the border with pride that was wholly undeserved. Having followed his daddy on many a border patrol, Angel thought he knew what he was doing. As far as he knew, patrols consisted of nothing but lots of walking and occasionally stopping to pee on tall things. He was getting pretty good at the latter; not once today had he lifted his leg so high that he tipped over and peed on himself. It was a good day.

A small form came into view and the boy froze. Caught off guard by the sudden appearance, Angel frizzed up like a dandelion. His nose started to quiver as his eyes stayed locked on the slightly taller form of the unknown boy. He'd never actually encountered someone on a patrol before, so he didn't know how to proceed. What would daddy do?

Approaching slowly, Angel stopped and turned to face the other boy when he was directly across from him. Unknowingly, he'd even put the same amount of distance between himself and the border. "Hello," he said simply, eying the other. "Why are you on that side of the markers?" It was dangerous out there. Didn't the boy know that?

A voice would pull his attention to the boy who stood on the other side of the markers. Ears would swivel forward as he took a few steps closer. The boy would inquire about why he was outside pack lands. A frown would pull briefly at his lips before turning up into a smirk. "Why are you over there? Scared" He would taunt the boy, crown lifting high above his shoulders as his tail curled above his lips. He was the brave one. Not only leaving his mothers forest, but also be outside pack lands. All while the pup before stood safety inside his own. Silver eyes danced with taunting amusement. He would examine the boy, finding the dots beneath his eyes to be familiar. Was he related to the silver woman that had brought her own children to visit him and his mama? Nostrils quivered, inhaling the pack scent once more. It didn't smell like the silver woman. But his markings were far to similar to her own for it to be a coincidence. But it wasnt important enough for him to ask. It was much more fun taunting him.

The boy turned to look at him, fixing the young Imperialis with a predatory gaze. Unfazed, Angelus stared back. He asked a question and then answered it himself, clearly trying to pick at him. Thankfully, Angel had siblings who routinely tried to one up him with taunts, so the stranger's attempt at needling didn't earn a negative response. Instead he snorted and puffed out his chest. "Hah! I'm patrolling. You do that on the inside so you can attack trespassers." Duh. If you did it on the outside then it would stand to reason that anyone you met would be on the outside too, and if they were on the outside, you couldn't attack them for trespassing, now could you?
