Voltage had run, as quick as his streamlined body could take him. He ran fast, gaining short bursts of boundless energy here and there, but his stamina was not one to beat Glacier. He could move quickly, but it didn’t last for too long, but just when he would trail behind he’d burst forward again. Stamina was not something Voltage was good at, but his boundless energy helped him in sprinting races. This, however, was not a sprinting race. He was panting by the time they crossed the river, his body aching pleasantly at the exertion. He knew he would sleep well tonight, without the kicks his siblings had to put up with. Even in sleep he continuously moved, unable to expel the energy that continuously filled him. He was like a child, in that regard, and possibly his maturity as well.
He knew he would lose the race, as he lagged behind his brother, feeling his heart race against his chest, feeling his heart beat in his paws. "Okay!" He conceded, feeling the burning in his lungs. They would have to slow down, Glacier had won. "You win big brother!" He panted, slowing down to collect his breath. Where Glacier was leading him, he was unsure. But, suddenly, the loudest of bangs filled the sky and he jolted, eyes wide. It sounded like the sky had cracked open, and he knew for sure what that meant. Laughing nervously to himself he lifted his gaze to the darkening sky, swallowing around the lump in his throat. The energy in the air was practically static, he could feel it run through his veins, but it was always was preceeded the lightening that got him. Lightening streaked across the sky, shining against the expanse of water he hadn’t paid much mind too. It wasn’t very long before the clouds boomed again, and he felt his heart lurch and his hair jump on end before he ducked towards the earth. It was an automatic reaction as panic shook through him. Thunder...Oh how he hated it.

Voltage and his quick pass had Glacier doubting his ability to win, but his brother tired quickly, stopped, or slowed, before speeding up again, well Glacier kept a constant jog going, one he could have kept up a long time if necessary, and in the end, it was the steady pace that won the race he did not expect to win. As Voltage conceded defeat he would grin at the boy, and slow to match to Voltage's pace, seeing the effort of the run on his brother he knew the other boy had burnt himself out – typical Voltage, thinking only in the moment and not the long run. He nuzzled his brothers cheek, and was about to show his brother what he had found, when the clouds that had begun to darken above them finally made their appearance, he scowled at the sky, he had not foreseen the weather getting so bad so quickly. Voltage ducked towards the ground and the larger brother placed himself over him, protecting him from the ominous sky. It was a strange thing that Voltage was afraid of his namesake, but Glacier did not judge his brother for it. “Come on, there's a cave this way, we just have to walk a short distance” he gently soothed to his brother, keeping his larger frame towering over him and would continue to do so until they made it to the cave. "No no no.." He said with a nervous laugh, shaking his head as his brother moved to shelter him. Voltage was in his prime, he was old enough now to handle a little thunder. Another clap boomed through the air and he felt his resolve nearly shatter before he shook his head again. He couldn’t hide out at every storm, he just couldn’t! They had things to do, stuff to plan, a place to scout and a family to move. There was so much, that his fear of thunder couldn’t get in the way. Yet as the seconds wore on it felt as if the storm was getting closer, that the ground shook at every explosion in the clouds, and he quickly nodded instead. "Yeah, a cave...don’t...don’t wanna get soaked, big brother.." He said with a laugh, moving with his brother as he directed him towards the cave. Sometimes it was nice having a behemouth as a brother, he certainly made a good umbrella as the rain began to fall.
He sighed heavily as they made it to the cave, wiggling out from under his brother and rocketting into the makeshift shelter. He turned around to face Glacier again, yellow eyes shinning and dancing in the darkness. "This cave wont fit our family.." He said with a small smile. His teeth clicked together as another round of thunder boomed over his head and he huffed. It wasn’t fair! "It’s not like Serefina is scared of lava, or Locha is terrified of rapids. Why am I scared of a thing that should sing to me?" It wasn’t fair. His siblings all seemed connected to the element they were named for (or perhaps, the connection came from the name, their uniqueness to each other) "You aren’t scared of freezing temporatures! Why am I terrified of Thunder, why does it do this to me?" He didn’t get it, and he probably would never get it. Perhaps it was in nature that Lightning was scared of Thunder, that the loud booming of the sky is why lightening streaked so fast and so powerfully, it was terrified...

Voltage wanted to stand on his own four feet, and Glacier could respect that, but the need to protect him was a strong instinct, and one hard to push down. They might have been the same age, from the same litter, and doing all this together, but.. he was his brother and he would always want to protect him. So well he didn't stand right over his brother, he did lean a little and do what he could to shelter Voltage without making it look like he thought his brother needed the protection. When Voltage mentioned soaked, Glacier grinned right back at him. “You know I detest being soaked” he agreed, well he didn't mind the cold, the clinging moist of water was a pain to him, he preferred something more solid.. he didn't mind snow as much. Voltage examined the cave, and he could see his brother struggling to hold it together as another round of thunder shook their hide out. As his brother spoke again, he smiled, pulling himself a little lower and looking into his brothers eyes. “But they are afraid of other things, as you are not, and it is because when you conquer you fear you will rule yourself as even I do not” smiling still he kissed his brothers cheek “Maybe not tomorrow, or this year, but I know you, and I know you will” he said simply. Then, efficiently turning to other matters he turned back to the entrance of the cave and nodded out into the storm- darkened clouds. “There are a few more caves along the mountain side, through some go to close to the ocean and I am sure they floor, but there are others higher up, i'm sure we would make do” he explained.
