i know that a love like this won't last forever

Autopilot had almost led him back to the range, but a sharp detour before he even neared the Imperium lands however led him towards the Western lands of Alacritia instead. A slow and sluggish pace led him carried him onwards, though the night starting to fall and the threat of darkness was doing nothing to alter his movements. Still he travelled with little thought, when he was completely exhausted perhaps then he'd stop for a while but for now he continued,

Soliloquy couldn't even recall whether he'd won or lost his last fight at the battlefield, it had done nothing to change him at all aside from making him look even worse than he already had. Fresh wounds had been created and blood once more marked the white fur, thought that was far from pristine even before the fight had begun.

If he paid attention, perhaps he would have stopped or changed his direction to avoid the familiar scent but instead he remained oblivious to what might lie ahead and just kept on walking.

Isolde had hardly looked at Soliloquy after the battle, Rhythm had briefly filled her in but the chocolate girl seemed eager to get away. Isolde was thrown out with two out of three children. She still didn't know where Ceasar had gone. Life had been more than confusing, and settling back into life with freedom had its fair share of challenges as well. Winter was in full swing, the discomfort of her heat had her mostly occupied. Solioquy wasn't around to sedate her raging hormones. Not that he'd be able to now anyway, her gaze would narrow as she found herself looking at the ground as she thought about what had happened to Sol. What price he had paid for his family to be free.

The girl would lounge in the snow, huffing at the thought. She could understand why Soliloquy had run off, but he hadn't even let her say thank you or goodbye or anything. He'd left her once before, when she'd told him she was pregnant. Even if he did come back to her she wasn't sure she even wanted him anymore. Twice he'd run, she had obviously become an afterthought to him. As it was he didn't even notice that he was walking right past her. A few meters away the wolf would walk, purpose was gone from his gait and he looked like he might have belonged in the grave rather than above the ground.

Her ears would fall to her head as she watched him, he really was a different wolf to the one she'd met so long ago. Lifting herself from the earth her dark paws would carry her to him, not for an embrace or some heart warming reunion. They were beyond that. But rather a final goodbye, she wanted to show him appreciation for the sacrifice he'd endured for his family. "Soliloquy," She'd start breathlessly and would pause as though she were thinking about what she wanted to say. "Thank you." Her course would halt, after she'd said her peace she'd let him continue on out of her life if that was what he wished.

i know that a love like this won't last forever

The worst part about all of this was that it wasn't in the slightest what he had wanted. Well of course castration wasn't what any man wanted and it wasn't that part he focussed on but to be free of his family. Once the responsibility of a family repulsed and terrified him though he had certainly grown to care for them and finally had understood why he'd never gotten any sympathy from Scorpion. They may have been a pain at times but they were his children. He had wanted to watch them grow, teach them and prepare them for life though his chance to do that with them or anyone else had been stolen from him.

Now a shameful and potential risk to his own family they were better off away from him. No other logic seemed to matter to him any more, he was a dead man walking, living on borrowed time that truthfully a part of him couldn't wait to be stolen back. Now more than ever.

He was dreaming at first he thought, he couldn't possibly have ran into her and yet he knew full well this wasn't a dream. He still felt and looked awful, was still a pitiful mess and this really was Isolde stood before him, as beautiful as she had ever been. Of all the things that he expected to hear from her, thank you was not one of them. In silence he stood, unsure on what to say or do, a part of him wished to flee right away but her lack of anger, care of worry was a little unnerving to him and he had no clue how to react.

He was silent as she draw a little more near, like a frightened does she'd watch him as her words left her mouth. Soliloquy would do nothing though, his once bright gaze seemed dull and lifeless as he watched her in silence. Isolde would half wonder if he even knew who she was, she wasn't sure she knew him anymore. She'd step forward cautiously, wondering silently if he would even allow her to come close. If he did though she'd slowly find her way to grooming him. Isolde had lived with the man for a good year by now, she knew him better than any other wolf in Alacritia right now and she was beginning to realize there would be no others that knew him like she did. Isolde didn't know what might happen to him in the end, but his life as she knew it was over. With out another word, and if he allowed it, she'd start to clean his coat. A rhythmic and gentle gesture.

Isolde had certainly learnt a lot about him during their time together, she had helped shape him into an entirely different man, one he'd never thought he would end up being though it had never been a bad thing. That said however, even with all the care in the world it was unlikely she'd ever bring Soliloquy back to himself. There was perhaps only one wolf that could have talked some sense into him, though Scorpion was nowhere to be seen.

Isolde wouldn't try however, Soliloquy had given up on himself though he couldn't be sure if she had done the same thing. He knew who stood before him, but he couldn't read her now, all he knew was there was no anger and the lack of that still had him frozen in shock. Even without any annoyance displayed however he would still flinch as she stepped closer, moving in to groom him as she had done so many times before. He was beyond a state of grooming really, the dirty white coat needed it, though thinning and weakening figure and wounds close to infection probably required more urgent attention.

For a few seconds he would allow himself to relax into that familiarity, the gentle touch bringing back far happier memories to mind. That feral, despondent state would kick in again however suddenly and he wouldn't allow the contact or any longing for the past to continue. Withdrawing he would put distance between them again, his expression offered no explanation and his speech wasn't much help either. "No." Hoarse voice informed her simply. He shouldn't even have been here at all.

For a few brief seconds the world was as it had been, he'd relax into her touch and she could almost imagine they were in the Range. She almost smiled but all too soon Soliloquy would bring them back to reality. There was no growl with his sudden retreat but he might as well have struck out at her with how much it hurt. She really had lost him. The pain would be wiped from her face, she'd try to remain neutral. She'd realize even more how skinny he was and she'd ignored the thin coat when she touched him. Swallowing hard she'd nod as he gave her a final word. This might be the last time she saw him, and she didn't want that to be the last words between them but she couldn't force anything from her throat. With her ears pinned to her skull she'd feel tears try to well up in her eyes. Isolde didn't know how long she'd be able to stand before him, knowing this was what he had become. Though they'd had their ups and downs she really had loved the pale man.

i know that a love like this won't last forever

I love you. I'll miss you. Any of those perhaps would have been a good thing to say to Isolde but the latter two were things that he had never actually spoken in a good frame of mind and it was unlikely that he would ever utter them now. Perhaps even a goodbye would do, he hadn't given that originally after all, when he had fled for his solitude but the words wouldn't yet find their way to his lips.

Instead he watched her as her composure broke, giving way for sadness."No." He told her once more, slightly softer in tone "Don't cry." That bemusing thank you and content attitude, he wanted that back. It had confused him to begin with though he realised now it had proven he'd done the right thing in leaving them.

Silence held true between them for far too long and Isolde broke her composure, realizing fully that the man she'd spent the last almost two years with was leaving her forever. She was given one last brief glimpse at him and he would be taken from her grasp. The tears that had gathered in her eyes would gently fall to her cheeks and Soliloquy would react much more softly than he had a moment ago. She'd sniffle slightly and blink her eyes as he told her not to cry, shaking her head to calm herself but the emotion was much too strong. "I love you, Soliloquy." And that was all she could utter before her eyes started watering heavily once more. She'd shake her head more slowly, not having the heart to try and contain the feeling of loss. He'd left her once and now he would be doing so for the very last time.
