She was growing restless, being forced to remain so close to the pack lands… pack lands she was quickly growing to abhor no less. She needed a releases, she needed Mercury. This was a fact she was quickly growing used to… She needed him. Needed him in ways she had once looked for, in ways she had long renounced for herself, in ways she had long thought stupid.

She needed him in ways that scared her. Canta was fiercely independent, always had been and was only more so with each passing tragedy, and it made no sense to her that she could rely so heavily on a wolf she had once thought gone.

Certainly she wasn’t naïve, she knew what the instinctual part of her craved from him. Something she wasn’t totally against… but she was scared of the emotional connection. Scared she’d fall into the same trap her mother had, scared he’d leave just as her father had.

With a slight growl she tilted her head back, calling for the man she needed. Regardless of her fears more than anything right now she just wanted to be with him.

Mercury knew very well how independent Canta could be, that was why he allowed her to come to him or for her to call for his presence. He made sure to always be there when she wanted him to be, and she could be comforted in the fact that he was never far enough away from her that he couldn't hear her call. Today he was probably a little too close. He'd wanted to make sure he knew where she was that day, but when he found her he couldn't stop watching her. So he'd settled down in some heavy brush and lingered in her presence. He too found an independent streak, but with out much of his family around anymore she was all he had left to care for. Ara had Novel and he couldn't have begun to answer the question of where his other siblings were.

Not that he would have been able to keep their company anyway. Since he'd found Canta bloodied and forgotten he hadn't been able to leave her. Physically he was unable to cross the threshold of space that might separate them. So while he used the excuse of his closeness being wholly for Canta's sake it was really selfish intentions as well. He hurt with out her near. Was this how his father had felt when he'd met their mother? Or how he felt when they hadn't been together? Did he know the pain of separation?

His daydreams would be interrupted by Canta's sudden howl, she'd startle the bronze marked boy into a more full wakefulness. Shaking his head he'd bring himself to his feet, obviously a lot closer than she'd probably anticipated considering her call. Shaking the dirt from his fur the tall black wolf made his way to Canta's side, a soft smile playing on his marked lips. He'd offer a cat like purr as he grew closer, extending his features to nuzzle at her cheek.
