Psalm wouldn't hesitate in racing the taller boy to the beach, he'd put the speed on too. Moving his much smaller legs as fast as he could. He'd found his way to the Rio grand river and he'd followed it down past the swamp to where the ocean was. By the time he reached the place he should have been out of breath, but he was still young and his energy stores were still quite massive. He'd been running so fast though he hadn't had any time to talk to the other boy, that was alright though. They were racing and that was what really counted.

By the time they arrived he'd really stopped keeping track of who was winning, he was just excited to see the ocean. It seemed like a really good day too because there were some pretty big waves coming in! His eagerness was obvious in the way he ran up to the water and just leapt right in. He'd swim out for a few seconds before the next big one came and with practiced ease he'd grab the wave and belly surf back to shore.

What started out as a chase quickly turned into a race. The pair ran as fast as their legs could carry them and it quickly became clear where they were headed. Angelus had been to the swamp before. He was rather fond of the place. There was lots of pokey things to mess with and loads of freaky animals to chase. Once he'd even seen a swimming snake. A snake that swam! How cool was that? He'd only ever seen them on land, so of course he went and investigated. Turned out it was a really mean snake and it kept trying to bite him, so after a few sneaky nips on his part, the boy backed off and left it alone. ANYWAY. Why was Psalm bring him to the swamp? There was a lot of water, sure, but it's nearly as massive as the boy had led him to believe.

Soon it became clear why Psalm had brought him through the swamp. On the other side of, the swamp opened up into a almost treeless, boggy "field" of sorts. Like in the rest of the swamp, the water grass was tall and thick, but because this place was so close to the ocean and frequently battered by storms, trees didn't last very long. Tall, spindly stumps dotted the scape. Some stood straight and tall, and others lay bent and broken, but none boasted greenery of any kind.

And there it was.

The tall mucky grass gave way to sand and opened up to a vastness that took his breath away. While Psalm charged headlong into the water, Angelus skidded to a halt and simply stared.

Completely soaked in the salty ocean water Psalm would shake out his fur as he stood and returned to a dryer part of the beach. He'd trot, quite proud of himself, back to where Angel stood, quite shocked and frozen. With his jaws hanging open like that Psalm couldn't help but give a hearty chuckle as he sat his wet butt into the grainy sand. "Isn't it awesome!" He'd ask, though he couldn't deny how obvious the answer really was. His chocolatey tail would wag behind him as he looked up at the taller boy, and he wondered if he'd be able to get him into the water. "What are you waiting for? You gotta catch some waves with me!"He'd eagerly announce as he stood and started skipping back towards the shore.

Oh, wow! WOW! It was so...huge. The word 'huge' didn't even do it justice. The ocean was so big and so wide that Angelus couldn't think of a word to describe it properly. Big, huge, gigantic...none of them managed to capture the majesty of the ocean.

With an exclamation on his lips Psalm came racing back. For a second Angel could only nod. It was awesome. "...so big," he finally mustered. So very, very big. Psalm's excitement was contagious and the boy found himself quickly warming to the idea of exploring further. But jumping in the water? What if it sucked him in when it pulled back into itself?

Not one to be left out, the boy took off after his friend. He wasn't scared exactly, but he was hesitant. However, he wouldn't, couldn't, let that show. No, he'd make himself follow Psalm into the water...and if the water tried to eat him, then he'd squeal like a baby and make for the shore.

Catching up to Psalm, he asked, "How do you catch a wave?"

Angelus was absolutely awe struck, Psalm felt pretty good about impressing an impressive wolf like him. The smaller youth would beam excitedly, barely getting two more words as the other boy's blue eyes took in the horizon. He wasn't about to be left behind though, and Psalm would coax Angel ever closer. Psalm wouldn't slow until the little waves engulfed his lower legs, he'd grin back a the other boy. He should have figured that Angel wasn't quite sure what he was talking about when it came to surfing, he still couldn't help but giggle as he asked the question again. "Well, first we gotta swim out where the waves are a little bigger. Then you just wait for a nice one and swim into it as it passes by." He'd look out into the surf, "Come on! You just gotta do it." With little room for questions Psalm would jump back into the water.

Ah, peer pressure. Angelus caved readily. When Psalm confidently jumped into the water Angelus followed suit. The sand felt odd underfoot and it took the boy a moment to realize that the ground was eroding beneath him. Mystified by the odd, moving sensation under him, Angel turned a quizzical expression towards the ground. He stopped following Psalm, instead focusing on readjusting his footing as the sand, no matter where he placed his paws, kept getting washed (pushed? sucked? he wasn't entirely sure what was happening) out from under him.

His friend's giggle and answer pulled Angel's attention away from the sand. Oh, yeah! He was supposed to be following, wasn't he? After one final, mystified glance at the sand, the boy strode after Psalm. The water dragged at him, first pushing him back and then pulling him forward. At first the bullying of the waves wasn't so bad, but the further out he got the harder it became to resist the motion.

Once his paws no longer struck ground and he was forced to paddle, staring out into the coming waves began to make him a little uneasy. They looked so big! How did Psalm manage to "catch" one? "What's-" forgetting to paddle while he spoke, the boy almost went under, "what does a nice one look like?"
